OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Dreaded TriangleWith Exclamation Point
Mar 7, 2012
My Mail application and all associated mailboxes have the dreaded triangle sign with the exclamation point in it. I can't send or receive mail in any of the mailboxes although AOL works through the AOL website. It happened while I was sending an EPS file to someone. They received it but I'm dead in the water since then. Any help available? I checked all my setting snad they appear to be right on.

I own a PowerMac G5 currently running Tiger. I tried to install Leopard the other night and when I was promted to choose the hard drive to install....I saw a red exclamation point over it.
I know I can backup my entire drive and install on a clean drive but is there any way around doing that? Can I go to utilities and try to repair somehow?
Also, I do have a second hard drive on the computer..

I have imported photos from my digital camera to my iPhoto and when I try to view them, I just see a gray box with an exclamation point? How can I fix this so my photos will show up? It has always worked correctly in the past.

I am getting a pop up error message with a yellow triangle and yellow exclamation point in Safari but it immediately disappears after it appears. This happens so fast that I cannot read the error message. A java applet for my bank's website is not running properly and knowing what the error message is might help solve the problem.

I'm sure many of you have witnessed it, and tonight, so have I. My WD external just bit the dust, after slightly over 2 years. It could be worse, I guess-- it could have been my iMac's internal that keeled over. The only things I "lost" were some m4v's I Handbraked from my collection for my nano, and I can re-Handbrake the ones that aren't on my nano. I also lost some music projects I was working on that were on the Windows partition, but for the most part I can recover them from elsewhere. (My Time Machine files are gone, of course, but I never really used it to recover anything-- it was just for peace of mind.)
Two questions:
1. My AppleCare doesn't cover attached peripherals, and the WD is past its own warranty period. Do you think it's worth attempting to take the drive out and attempting to recover using another machine?
2. Obviously, I'm picking up a replacement this weekend. Any under-$200 suggestions? (One other stipulation: Must have FW800.)

About once a month I have a problem where the machine won't boot and I get the blinking question mark icon on the screen. I've read lots (and lots) of posts about this, all which say that the hard drive is dead or something similar. Disk Utility and Drive Warrior sometimes see no disk and sometimes see a disk that reports a 0 byte capacity. The thing is, it has always come back. The typical pattern is that nothing I do seems to help. Eventually I've tried all the standard things (safe mode, pram reset, etc), rebooted it a bunch and then walk away for a few hours. Nothing seems to work immediately, but if I leave it alone it comes back. What gives? In case it matters I've got an iMac 20" (?), intel duo 2.8 GHz with a 500 GB WD drive. I used to think the problem might be heat related, but I recently had to leave the machine off for a week in this state and when I returned the problem persisted.

I have a 13" macbook purchased 2007 just out of the extended protection plan this summer. Last night while watching a video in full screen it froze with the beach ball for over 20 minutes with no sign of stopping. I had my external WD drive hooked up which is my iTunes drive (only). I had to manually shutdown the computer (with external still hooked up) After trying to reboot I got the flashing question mark and continue to get it no matter what I do.
I've removed the external drive, reset the PRAM, tried booting in safe mode, tried booting from installation disc but my hard drive doesn't even appear in disk utility. Not sure what else I can try as nothing has worked.

I haven't upgraded yet but I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback concerning the EFI 1.7 update and SL. #1. Is there anyone here who had installed the EFI 1.7 update, experienced those dreaded HDD issues and has now updated to SL? If you did have you noticed any changes? #2. Is there anyone who hasn't taken the EFI 1.7 plunge and recently installed SL? If you did was the update forced upon upgrade and have you noticed any issues?

I got the 3 dreaded blinking lights on a PowerMac G5 dual 1.8ghz. Turns out the memory is OK but it's the physical slots that are screwy.I found that applying pressure to one of the banks gets it to boot with no problem but then I remove that pressure and the Mac freezes .

How hard is it to replace the hard drive? I have a disaster recovery company step up to get all my info off of it if they can. But I really don't want to spend the money to have someone pull out the HD and put a new one in if I can do it myself. I have experience building pc towers but I haven't ever pulled apart an iMAC. Its an iMac 23(or 24) inch from Dec 2007 (I don't have the model info on hand as the box is in storage).

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I have a Snow Leopard Install Disk for the 13-inch Macbook Pro model.I also have a 21-inch iMac. I have OS X Lion installed on both. I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

"Photoshop CS" and "Acrobat 6.0 Standard" suddenly stopped working in my iMac, apparently after I upgraded it to MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard). Both programs had worked normally until that OS upgrade. I deleted Photoshop CS and tried to re-install it from the original CD, but the installation never proceeds because I get an error message entitled: "Install Adobe Photoshop CS quit unexpectedly". This is the full error message:Â

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

Our computer shows an exlamation mark and can't conect to wi-fi. It has always been in this location (two years), we haven't added any other wireless devicess to our home. It can see our network with all four bars as a strong sygnal but doesn't want to conect. When I move my iMac to the kitchen it conects right away. I don't need a computer in the kitchen. Apple support wasn't very helpful. We upgraded our internet, bought a new router, extended the network with Airport Extreme, re-installed the system (10.7.4) replaced airport card in our mac. The same problem - exclamation mark, no wi-fi.

I'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.
I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

I have my drive partitioned between Tiger and Snow Leopard. I am trying to move myself over to Snow Leopard so I don't have to keep switching. The problem is that my old apps that alledgedly will work in SL, give me an error box when I launch them. It happens with Appleworks 6 and Quicken 2007. I've installed Rosetta but don't know what else to do.When I launch either application, it says it unexpectedly quit and gives this info:Â Process: [code]

I finally went out and bought iLife '09. So far it was great, I love iMovie, but I opened iPhoto because I needed to grab a couple pictures for an iDVD menu. I clicked on an event, and I saw all the photos in that event. All good. But when I go to click on a photo, it gives me a big blurry exclamation mark I looked into it further, and it seems like all of my events from 2007, and only 2007, are corrupted like this. What happened? Can I recover the photos?

I have 22000+ songs, half of which have the exclamation mark next to them, so you can imagine I don't fancy the prospect of manually deleting the blighters! Mine came about by moving my music to my Mac desktop to format my external drive to make it compatible with Mac and PC and adding the new location to iTunes. I have already spent a silly amount of time looking for a fix, and have already tried uninstalling iTunes, consolidating and organising the library with no luck! To make matters slightly more complicated I am currently using a PC keyboard and don't have the luxury of the command key etc...

I added all these songs into my new computer using my ipod. But when I took the ipod out, none of the songs work. They all have an exclamation point next to them. I know this means that there is no actual music file in my itunes folder. I tried to add them again, but had no success. I don't have my ipod anymore and I don't like all of those songs taking up space. Is there any way I can just delete the songs with the exclamation point next to them from my library and keep the rest of my music?

I just recently got my disk drive repaired at apple which meant my Macbook Pro needed wiped. When I got home and connected up to my wifi I noticed the wifi symbol to be greyed out with an exclamation mark in front of it. However, I can still use my internet but it gives me an alert that I'm not connected. This has been like this for a month and it hasn't gone and I've tried un plugging the wifi modem, forgetting the network and rejoining etc and yet its still like this. i wouldn't have a problem with this its just I can't re install my Word, PowerPoint and Excel as it says I have a problem with my internet and just times out when i try to reinstall it.Â
