Mar 31, 2012I have a Snow Leopard Install Disk for the 13-inch Macbook Pro model.I also have a 21-inch iMac. I have OS X Lion installed on both. I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

Jun 5, 2014My husband (who has my old iMac) inserted a CD that a friend gave him into his disk drive. He played the disk in iTunes, but then could not get it to eject. I came over to "help" and after clicking the eject button in ITunes and then holdiing the eject button on the keyboard down for some time, the drive is stuck in kind of a loop trying to eject the CD. Here are the things that we have tried:
restarting the iMac
shutting it down and rebooting after waiting a while
shutting it down and unplugging it. Waiting for a while and then plugging it back in and rebooting
rebooting while holding the eject button down (on keyboard)
resetting the PRAM by holding down option-command-p-r while booting
drutil eject -drive internal in Terminal Mode

Sep 2, 2010I'm using a desktop IMac 15" and have come up against a problem I can't solve. I selected the disk drive as the start-up drive. Put the wrong disk in the drive and it is unable to start the comp. Now I have a blank screen and cannot eject the disk.
This is the first MAC I've ever had that does not have manual ejection for the disk drive.
What can I do short of ripping the cases apart?

Mar 3, 2008I've been having problem with either Firefox or Safari and I download something and the dmg extracts and I'm left with the white casing shell where the app is housed and it won't eject. I can't eject it from finder but dumping it to the trash from finder took it off the sidebar. I can't get them off my desktop unless I restart my Mac.
I've noticed now that along with disk images not mounting for me anymore. My external drive images or DVD's won't eject either.
When I use right click with Mighty Mouse I don't even see an option anymore to eject that image. Is there any solution out there to fix this glitch? The work around I'm using is unmounting or ejecting images or disks from Disk Utility.
Why is this happening and how do I fix it? I'm using Leopard 10.5.2 and am on an intel iMac.

In Leopard, it would usually load up after a log out, or restart, but with Snow Leopard, it just doesn't seem to load after, like I said a moment ago, logging out or restarting. May 9, 2012I was messing with Privoxy and now when I try to access the 'Proxies' tab under System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies nothing happens; the 'Proxies' tab is just gray and no options load. I tried to follow a Lifehacker guide and I messed with the config file for Privoxy. I never got it to work but the 'Proxies' tab was loading whenever I tried it. Then all of a sudden it didn't load anymore. Restarting and uninstalling Privoxy did not solve the problem. I am able to get online; there doesn't seem to be any effects of that tab not working. I'm just irritated and want it to load in case I do want to use it some day.

Mar 31, 2012My kids HD just started to fail. Apple replaced it this AM, however my kid's TM backup is about 5 months old. I am trying to recover the data from the old disk.
She put the old disk into an enclosure and connected it to her MBP. As I try to copy as much of the drive as possible it gets an error, ejects, then reconnects and give an annoying message that I didn’t eject properly. This is making it very difficult to get all the data off.
I figured if I mounted read-only that it’d stop doing that, but it does not. I’ve run fsck, etc…
All I need is for this stupid machine to log errors and move on just like single user mode. However, I cannot use single user mode because I am 2000 miles away from the machine. And using Facetime to remote control my kid has pushed me to the edge. There has to be a way to make OSX as “unfriendly” as Linux. OSX needs a “pro” mode.
So, I ask again. How do I stop OSX from auto ejecting a disk when it errors?

Sep 4, 2009This is a major issue for me, as I feel like I'm going to end up damaging my hard drive.
I am downloading a legal torrent to my external hard drive, however when I quit Transmission and try to eject my external drive, nothing happens. Snow Leopard doesn't even say it is in use like it is meant to. It just does nothing to eject the drive.
So I end up having to yank the USB plug out.
What gives? It ejects normally as long as I don't download to it.

May 8, 2012I just recently purchased Snow Leopard and everything seemed to be going well. The installer popped up after I put it into my External DVD Drive and the installation was going smoothly but soon my MBP would restart and the installation would continue. The problem is that at around 35% completion, or in my case 32 minutes left, the disc would come out of the drive and any attempts to put it back in would result in the DVD drive promptly spitting the disc back out.
I don't think it's the MBP that is at fault since I would have received an error message or something of the like. My only guess is that either the Installation DVD is faulty or the External DVD Drive is causing the issue. I'm leaning towards the DVD Drive especially since it suddenly stopped reading the disc entirely while I'm typing this. I'm using an AmazonBasics USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive which should be fully compatible with Macs.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Slow Response - Seems Disk Related?
May 6, 2012I am getting very slow UI response in Lion. (iMac 27", 3 GHz, dual core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, 250 GB free on HD). SmartReporter says disk is operating in spec (ie no alarms). Opening disk folder takes 5 seconds to get a spinning beach ball, with another 5 or more seconds to get the folder open. Also slow on directory scan during file opening dialogs. Even get the delay when opening USB drives.
OS 10.7.3, with Apache running, and the usual load of extensions operating. But what I find irritating is that Activity Monitor reports CPU at 25 %, HD occassionally spiking to 100%, but not often, and still I seem to get these unexplained delays. Not fun. Turned off 'disk sleep' in energy saver preferences. Seemed to help for a while. Now not. Reinstalled OS X twice from store and with a USB download stick. Get wierd errors on Console: "5/6/12 5:20:31.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero".
Killing Safari/Flash via Activity Monitor makes a small amount of speed difference, but not much.Any comments? Suggestions? Is this a general issue with Lion? Are there any profiling S/W diagnostics that might suggest where the processor is spending its time?

Apr 10, 2012I have DSL and AirPort Extreme on Snow Leopard imac. Web pages on Sarfari have been loading very slowly lately. I have the Activity window open (Sarfari>Window>Activity) to show all the page items as they are loading. The web pages usually get hung up and not all page items load. I have to Stop and Reload, sometimes several times to get the web page to load completely. This is very frustrating as I've been re-checking AirPort, Browser, and Mail settings. The Mail application runs fine.

Sep 9, 2009Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (SL). I have noticed a painfully slow access to sites when using Firefox and Safari. Pages used to load almost instantaneous with Leopard. Now when using either Firefox or Safari on SL, It's taking an average of 8-10 seconds to load a page in my web browser. Feels like I'm on dialup. I have the fastest internet service you can get (Roadrunner Turbo Plus), but for some unknown reason my internet page access is painfully slow. I'm really thinking of using Time Machine to set my Mac back to Leopard, but I really don't want too. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if this problem surfaces, and perhaps a solution can be found.
