Pairing my devices like printer, smartphones to my G4 tower works fine until I shut down. When I restart the next day I notice my bluetooth at menu bar is grayed out and displays bluetooth: off. How can I keep bluetooth always on? Is there a way to leave it on for good?
View 5 RepliesI have a new Macbook Pro with a built in bluetooth transceiver. I want to use it to connect a printer. It is a more difficult technique than it seems.
I have gotten a certain way into the problem. I downloaded and installed a CUPS driver for my HP printer from the linux openprinting site. I tested and proved the driver installation by printing over a USB cable.
I am stalled short of actually printing anything over a bluetooth link. The printer adapter is a Belkin, and the Mac recognizes it, and sees through it to the printer. But it cannot print. (The printer image bounces up and down, and the Mac insists the printer is "off line". In fact the printer is on-line.)
In other words, close, but no cigar.
I am happy to switch adapters if there is one more compatible with the Mac bluetooth.
Apple support does not have a list of printers -- nor can they name any printer or bluetooth printer adapter -- that has been demonstrated to work.
Another option might be to disable the built-in bluetooth and use a dongle instead.
Has anyone been down this bluetooth printer path? I would welcome your insights on which adapter and printer actually worked.
So how do I remove bluetooth devices from my bluetooth file transfer list? I have a few extra phones in there that I no longer use.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.
If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.
I've shied away from wireless keyboards in the past because I do alot of online baking and investment activities from my computer. I also love a clean workspace and a wireless keyboard could remove yet another wire from my desk. Do you consider wireless and/or bluetooth keyboards safe?

This isn't directly related to macbooks but if I want to use the bluetooth built into my computer to connect to my non bluetooth printer can I buy any USB bluetooth dongle to plug into the printer ( Kodak all in one 5300) or do I need some specific kind? All the ones I look at don't mention anything about printers just connection between computers and phones.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?

In Finder, this means that the mouse would move around the last-selected object. It is impossible to put the object down and so impossible to operate the Mac. Restart doesn't help.I turned off the wireless devices, replaced the wireless keyboard and trackpad with old, wired keyboard and mouse, and restarted. Normal operation was restored. Tried putting back the the keyboard, but pointing was disabled the instant I re-enabled Bluetooth. Now stuck permanently as if in mouse-up state, so impossible to operate. Fail.Temporarily OK with wired keyboard and mouse. Ihow to return the system to wireless keyboard and trackpad operation?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHey guys..>I'm trying to set up my jabra bt200 bluetooth headset to work with my mac (osx 10.4.2, 15" powerbook 1.67ghz)...and I can get it to pair, but it won't stay connected for more than a split second. this is a problem i've seen a few people have, looking around on various forums and stuff, and i was trying various solutions when i decided to try doing a firmware upgrade on the internal bluetooth module. I downloaded the firmware updater (1.2), tried to run it and it came up with the following error:
"This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth module installed. It cannot be updated by this application."
Why would my Powerbook not have an Apple Bluetooth module?!?!?! It's got bluetooth installed, it's internal, but looking at the system profile, it says it's the manufacturer is Cambridge Silicon Radio. So is this normal or what? Is the firmware upgrade even going to help me out in the end? Just to clarify...the powerbook came with bt installed factory...it's not something added by me!
So I finally install the latest updates from Apple, and reboot, and now my Bluetooth icon says "Bluetooth Unavailable". I have a 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 with internal Bluetooth. I've been using BT since I got this thing in late 2004. Now the icon doesn't even show up in the control panel.
Has anyone else had this problem? I kind of need the BT to use my current setup. And I'm out of AppleCare time. (It's an OLD laptop.)
I appear to be unable to turn off my bluetooth. The option has totally disappeared. Have not a clue why. I'm running 10.6.4 on a Late 2008 Macbook.

I tried both an Apple bluetooth mouse, and a logitech DiNovo mouse and had the same problem with both of them so the mouse isn't the problem.

"To use the service on this computer, turn on Bluetooth Sharing in its Sharing preferences"
So I go to the 'Sharing' preferences pane and Bluetooth Sharing is already check marked and says it is on.
I try again and I get the same message.
I have tried checking and re-checking the box as well as a repair disk permission, but neither worked.
For reference I am on a unibody macbook pro 2.53Ghz with OSX 10.5.6 installed.
I saw this article that one can fax with a mobile phone via bluetooth in 10.4:[URL]Pretty cool, except I have 10.5 and the directions don't work in 10.5. (There's no "advanced" selection when you option-click "More Printers".) I do see that 10.5 has a utility to add a bluetooth fax, which I went through, but couldn't get to work. (At no point did it ask to connect with my bluetooth phone.)

Once I got it working, I realized it is missing a bluetooth and airport module. I do not want to take the pricy route of getting internal Airport and internal Bluetooth. View 11 Replies View RelatedI own the MX 5500 cordless desktop keyboard/mice combo from Logitech, just wondering if anybody here in the forum who paired the MX Revolution Bluetooth with their Macs.
At first I intentionally bought the combo just so I can have the Bluetooth MX paired with my MBP, replacing the G5. There's a connection between the mouse and the laptop (as in I can use the mouse), but the many of the features and buttons on the MX has been disabled. My Search button won't even activate anything, and every other buttons other than the left and right click only triggers the scrolling.

when i turn on bluetooth on my macbook.... the on and off buttons are greyed out.
and when i try to turn it on in system preferences, it says bluetooth hardware turned off, turn on... so i turn on.... and nothing happens.

I have just been given a second hand powermac g5, dual 2ghz, 1.5 gb of ram and 2 500 gb hdds. I have just installed the copy of leopard that came with it, it's all up to date with all the latest updates. Now this model does not have a built in bluetooth device so i have my targus one that i no works because i have used it in the past with my mac mini. The power mac picks it up, and allows me to go searching for bluetooth devices how ever when i connect one , it locks the use of the mouse and the connected bluetooth keyboard. I have to hold the power button at the front. I have reset the PRAM, but no the PMU or the nvram yet on this unit.
