OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Power PC Apps Crash On Startup In OS 10.5.8 Leopard
Apr 1, 2012
I've been reading a great deal in this forum regarding the issue in the subject line of this post. But it all has to do with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. My 10.5.8 on my system has not been updated in any way for a while. So how is it that in the last couple of weeks all of my Power PC apps still on board, are going through this crash on start up routine. If I select 'relaunch' from the dialogue window that pops up upon the intial crash, the app will run fairly normally. This can't be about a security update like with Snow Leopard.
Info:Mac Pro Quad Core Intel Xeon / Macbook 2.4GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I'm on latest update of Snow Leopard and ever since I started working with mBOX (sound interface) and ProTools, my osx crashes frequently when quitting apps. My guess it's something to do with the sound card (the internal one). When I quit an app , the screen becomes green and it says in a couple of different languages that I have to turn off the computer by holding down the power button.
Then when I do that and then restart my computer, when booted it says 'You shut down the computer because of a problem'. In the report I always find that the problem layed with the app I quit.
It's not a particular app, I've had it with Quicktime, VLC, iTunes, LittleSnitch, SoundSource, Chrome, etc...
using system version 10.4.11 on a power mac G5, all of a sudden when i try to open MS word or quark xpress, my computer hangs up and the app won't open. i have to force quit to stop the rolling beach ball.
Is there such a thing as a crash log on leopard? Woke up my macbook from sleep this morning as I do every morning and it had slept so soundly it had turned itself off.
Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard (10.6 and 10.6.2) since then, most of the Adobe CS3 crash at launch (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash) some others (Indesign, Flash VE) lost their SN.
Am unable to uninstall and make a new install of CS3, installer said: System Requirements Error. This software cannot be install because the file system of the OS volume is not supported.
I download then Photoshop CS4 Trial from Adobe. It says too:
System Requirements Error. This software cannot be install because the file system of the OS volume is not supported. The OS volume should be local, writable and should have non-sensitive file system.
I am running snowleopard on my imac with version 10.6.8 My problem is as soon as I login- it kicks me straight off again back to the login screen.I have 4 other different login users and they work perfectly however my one does not.Â
I am on a brand new 3.06 GHz iMac. Installed Snow Leopard, 10.6.1. In general I don't experience any of the problems other people seem to have. But twice now my screen has turned blue while I am in the middle of something. All the open apps disappear and the Finder seems to relaunch. It only takes a few seconds. I don't have steps to reproduce it. Both times I had several apps open and had video/DVD running in the background.
Has anybody seen this?
I am a notorious file-saver which means I haven't lost much work through this but if it keeps happening I might have to go back to Leopard.
I am having problems with programs automatically shutting down when I try to open them. The problems are with ITunes and Skype. I know that Skype is an internet program, and this might be a problem, but I never had this happen before... EVER. iTunes only starts up half way, then it brings up an error box.
I had no problems until I updated in Feburary. Can I uninstall the last update and restore to the old one?
My older model MacBook Pro has been crashing quite frequently (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo runming OS X 10.6.8).I took it into the Apple store today and they said the culprit is my failing hard drive. It's not my original hard drive as I had a larger one installed some time ago. I did not have it installed at an Apple store but rather at an authorized third party store. The Genius Bar employtee today told me that if it's within a year of purchase, that third party store will most likely replace it under warranty. Unfortunately I am not currently in the city where this store is but I will call them today to see when it was that I purchased the drive. If it's been over a year, I want to tell them that these crashes did not start today but several months ago. we can go by the date of the first crashes as opposed to today's date as perhaps that will fall within the 12 month rule. However, when I look in the CrashReporter or DiagnosticReport folders in the Library and Logs folders, I'm only finding the most recent crashes. Are older crashed saved and accessable someplace else?
I've been having a problem with Firefox crashing recently. On Mozilla's forum, someone suggested that corrupted fonts can cause apps to crash. I opened Font Book to check on this. I was able to find and disable one font that Font Book listed as corrupted. However, there's another font that I think is corrupted but can't do anything about. Just clicking on the font in the Font Book window causes Font Book itself to crash! Is there any other way to disable this font (matura management capitals)? Can I just delete it from the Font folder in finder?
I made this a new topic because I think it is important enough to do so. Probably most of those that originally complained about this have moved on to the new MacPro but I am sure there are still enough G5 owners out there that still have concerns about this topic.
A clean install of Leopard eliminates the infamous power supply beeping
Its amazing, my G5 is like a new machine; no more of the annoying power supply beep; although, I learned to live with it after a while and didn't even notice it. However, the silence is now very noticeable.
I have my drive partitioned between Tiger and Snow Leopard. I am trying to move myself over to Snow Leopard so I don't have to keep switching. The problem is that my old apps that alledgedly will work in SL, give me an error box when I launch them. It happens with Appleworks 6 and Quicken 2007. I've installed Rosetta but don't know what else to do.When I launch either application, it says it unexpectedly quit and gives this info:Â Process: [code]
Can't figure out whats going wrong here. Installed SL when i came out, been fine up until a couple of days ago when I tried to resize my Bootcamp partition in disk utility. Not sure if I personally did something wrong or if it just failed while I was resizing, but it never finished. I was done with school and therefore Bootcamp so I've left it alone but ever since then I've been having weird problems with all of my other apps. When I click on the menu bar, whichever app is running crashes and I get the crash report. I popped in the SL disk and repaired the drive via disk utility but its still the same. It did say that one folder was modified and would not be repaired. I can run it again to find out if you think its important. So any ideas of what might be causing my menu bar to be bezerk? The only thread I was able to find was back with someone using Tiger who ultimately had to reinstall the OS.
While using Adobe CC (Photoshop or Lightroom so far) all the applications freeze for a second, and then crash AT ONCE (Finder, adobe, skype - everything), then grey screen, then everything starts loading up from scratch (drivers, apps, Finder etc.)
It happened three times in two days. Â
I checked the console after the crash and got A LOT (about 4000) errors like this (all have the same time-stamp):Â Â
8/29/14 10:10:22.366 PM Core Sync[335]: Our bootstrap port disappeared out from under us: 0x603 { urefs = 1, rights = (0x603): 0xf: (os/kern) invalid name }
Running 10.9.3 at the moment and having unusual printer issues at the office. Basically, when going to the print dialogue box and clicking "print" to any printer that is turned off or that OSX doesn't recognize, it will crash the app. The unusual thing is that even after turning the printer back on, any app that tries to print won't even make it to the print dialogue box and crashes immediately on clicking File>Print or Command-P. Clicking on Printers in System Prefs crashes System Prefs. Most of the time even a restart won't solve the issue.  It does seem to resolve itself the next day after I go home and come back to the office.
I have a MacBook Pro Retina Model A1398 which is crashing on startup. I suspect it is trying to open various applications on startup and it can't handle it. Is there a way to close the applications running in the background so it can just concentrate on starting? The progress bar then disappears and I see a spinning wheel...Then the computer shuts down. The computer has full power and is plugged into the wall during startup.
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.5)
hey is it possiable to get some of the leopard applications on mac os tiger on a 400mhz imac g3. ( like the new mail, spaces and the new ichat, would flinder and the new spotlight be possiable too?)
I've wanted to upgrade the beige G3 for a long time, but using XpostFacto intimidated me so much after reading all the forums that I've procrastinated. Now I understand that I could actually run Leopard on it if I swap out the G3 processor for a G4 and then not have to rely on XpostFacto. From what I understand I could use the iBook to load the new operating system onto a hard drive (the 7-GB or the 128-GB in the ROSEWILL, see at the bottom) that could then be installed into the mini tower. Would that be the extent of it?Â
My next question regards the 7-GB limit imposed by the G3 system. I've read up on this issue in various forums and online articles, and I remain as confused as ever. If I was able to install Leopard on the beige G3 (G4), would it be better on the 7-GB hard drive or the first 7-GB of the 128-GB drive? I intend to keep using OS 9.2.2 separately on the HD not used by Leopard.Â
It's recommended to upgrade the video card for Leopard, but I'm very partial to the audio/video capabilities of the original card in the beige G3. Would an AGP graphics card have the same inputs/outputs? I don't suppose it's possible to have both cards installed at the same time.Â
I'm seeking simple if possible as I'm not a very good troubleshooter or problem solver when it comes to OS X. Systems:
- Power G3 Beige Minitower, 300 Mhz, 640-MB RAM, OS 8.6 (have 9.2.2 available), original "Wings personality card" featuring audio/video input/output, OrangeLink+ USB 2.0/FireWire PCI card
- Internal ATA Bus 0: original 7-GB hard drive (getting kind of old now)
- Internal ATA Bus 1: original ZIP and floppy drives
- External SCSI Bus: Epson Stylus Color 800 serial printer, Microtek ScanMaker X6 serial scannerÂ
- iBook G4 (Mid 2005), 14" screen, 1.42 GHz, 100-GB internal ATA drive, 512-MB RAM (have an additional 1-GB to install), DVD/CD Super Drive, OS X 10.4.11Â
Extra Hard drives:
- ROSEWILL ATA drive USB 2.0/FW 400 enclosure with Oxford 911+ Cypress AT2 bridge chipset
- WESTERN DIGITAL 250-GB ATA internal hard drive that can be installed in the ROSEWILL or the beige G3 but then the last half cannot be addressed by the beige G3
- WESTERN DIGITAL 128-GB ATA internal hard drive that can be installed in the ROSEWILL or the beige G3
- VERBATIM 250-GB USB 2.0/FW 400 external portable hard drive
- VERBATIM 160-GB USB 2.0/FW 400 external portable hard drive
- 32-GB External SCSI hard drive that is currently not working but still trying to determine if it's the hard drive or the enclosureÂ

After I bought and installed Snow Leopard, I realized some of the most important apps that I use do not work under the new OS and I've been waiting for weeks (months maybe) for some update from the developers but seeing as they are more likely to wait, I've decided to downgrade back to Leopard again, the thing is that I'm on a VERY tight schedule these weeks, I have a lot of deadlines to meet and I don't want to install the apps that do work on Snow Leopard back again in Leopard. I don't have a Time Machine backup from back when I was on Leopard, and I haven't even made one of SL either, just an external HHD with my data (but no apps).
I've read online that people are having a hard time downgrading because there are a lot of errors in Time Machine and Migration Assistant, the most common one I've read about is that the Migration Assistant does not allow you to migrate from a newer OS to an old one. Since the most important thing I wanna migrate are the applications I've already installed in SL, this would be counterproductive.
I would like to develop apps for iPhones and iPads. Can I use an apple Mac with leopard iOS or do I need the latest iOS lion to down load the Xcode and sdk developer software?
