Intel Mac :: Suddenly Email Is Not Retrieving Messages?
May 22, 2012
I booted up this morning and went to check my email. The top of the email window shows "Inbox - (8 messages). However when I click on "Get Mail" even though I see the "wheels" turning, no mail shows up. I have had this iMac OS X Version 10.5.8 for 5 years now and this is a first.
Ever since I upgraded to Leopard over a year ago, my Mail.app has been pretty buggy. my mail.app is currently set up to connect to my university IMAP server with SSL and password authentication. Before I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, mail would always retrieve any new mail on the IMAP server every minute and any time I press get mail. Ever since I upgraded however, the get mail function hasn't worked exactly as it should.
Sometimes get mail would work, sometimes it won't, and sometimes it takes a long time for my computer to automatically retrieve new e-mails. The weird thing is, connection doctor shows no connection abnormality, and if get mail doesn't work, I can get it to work again if I quit and reopen mail, which is always a pain. Mail on my iPhone works perfectly (syncs to my MBP), and I have already tried deleting mail.app, reinstalling from my Leopard DVD and basically resetting all settings.
I cannot tell if this question has gone through, so please forgive the repeats. Simply put: I want to retrieve a draft email I had deleted by mistake. Please give me direction as I have tried using a few applications today, such as DevonthinkPro, and could not find any indication of drafts, just sent or inbox emails.
My iMac running OS 10.6.8 is suddenly not displaying the message when I highlight an email. It highlights in blue but I now have to open every email to see the content.I have two email accounts connected.Gmail for work and hotmail for personal. Also, I have noted diminished search capability over the past month or so.
It doesn't matter if I set the preferences to check automatically, every 1 minute, every 5 minutes, etc. Mail just stops retrieving, and even more aggravating is the fact that the Activity monitor runs at the specified interval, implying that my mail is being checked. And yet, if not for checking my email on my iPhone, I'd think everything was fine, it's just a particularly slow day. When I see that in fact I've gotten a number of emails, I check my Mavericks Mail manually, and still nothing comes in. It's only upon deactivating all my accounts and then reactivating, or quitting the app and then restarting that I get all the mail I've already gotten on my iPhone. This is pretty infuriating, as I get caught up in my work and forget that my Mac Mail is "moody."
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 and Mail 7.3.
Info: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), Mail 7.3
Every time I try to delete a recovered message in my email, it returns to the recovered mailbox. I've tried moving it to the junk mail and deleted mailboxes on my server as well as aol. Why won't it delete? It's blocking my incoming messages!
I'm relatively new to the world of Apple. I have an iMac running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. I stored photos from my PC onto a NexStar CX external HD. A friend told me I should be able to access them from my iMac but when I plugged it in I get this message:
"NTFS-3G: Volume not cleanly unmounted
The NTFS volume that you're trying to mount (/dev/rdisk1s1) has not been unmounted properly. This may mean that the volume is in an inconsistent state, and mounting it with NTFS-3G could lead to data loss. You are recommended to attach the drive to a Windows computer and unmount it properly with the "Safe remove hardware" feature to guarantee the safety of your NTFS volume.
To ignore this warning and attempt to mount the volume anyway, press the "Force" button. To abort the mount process, press "Abort."
Although it's been quite a while, I'm very confident I didn't shut down the EHD improperly the last time I used it. Also... I no longer have a PC to hook it up to. What does this message mean and what can I do to get to my photos?
Up until a few months ago, my primary desktop computer was an iMac running OSX Snow Leopard. I used Time Capsule for backing up to a 1TB external HD. Unexpectedly (of course), the iMac died beyond repair. I am now, unenthusiastically, using a Dell laptop running Windows 7 until such time as I can replace the iMac. My questions is this: is there a method I can use to access the backup HD to extract files I need from it? I have connected the HD to the laptop and it is “seen” by Windows, but it doesn’t allow me to open it to view files. I am not interested in interacting with the external drive beyond retrieving digital images and document files I desperately need.
I've lost my QuickTime Pro registration key(s). What should I do? You can retrieve purchased registration keys this way: Visit the Apple Online Store.Cick "Account" in the upper-right corner.Click "Downloadable Software Purchases".Enter your Apple ID and password.
You should see your QuickTime Pro registration key(s).The enlarge and bolded portion isn't even in Account selection. If I type it in search, all that pop up are items I can purchase. Viewing Purchase History has nothing, having Apple call center call me was useless. Please advise on how else I can retrieve my key. Since regular Apple Support is useless.
Messages will suddenly not show any accounts and won't let me add them or log in unless I uninstall and reinstall. Why is it crashing in a way that wipes it clear of EVERYTHING?
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I backed up my entire old macbook pro laptop through Time Machine to a Western Digital My Passport. Now my laptop has died, and I would like to get all my old information that time machine saved off of the My Passport and onto my new desktop iMac. How do I go about doing this?
I have an iMac and a MacBook. The iMac hardrive won't boot so I am trying to get files off of it by connecting it to the MacBook via FireWire. After holding down T and booting up the iMac I don't see the drive on the MacBook. I only see the drive in disk utilities.
I am really confused as to why about a week or so ago, my email on my MBP crashes several times a day. It appears that it happens when I am doing something within email. Maybe clicking on an email to read, add an attachment, etc. Its not so obvious that its the same thing. The wheel starts to spin and then I get the crash message.
Info: MBP 15 , Mac OS X (10.7.1), plus IOS on iPhone 4S
I can read my incoming email at iCloud.com, and on my iPad, but it no longer flows from iCloud to iMac Mail. There have been no configuration changes on iMac Mail. Apple says "All systems go," but I'm skeptical; I think the incoming mail IMAP server is broken. In Mail "Accounts" the incoming mail server is set to "p02-imap.mail.me.com" and the entry is greyed out so I can't change it to the recommended [URL] Outgoing email works normally in Mail.
So right now I'm in the process of replacing my current 24" iMac with a new 27" i7 iMac. I'm trying to get everything ready to move all my old files over to the new one. The problem I'm having is I just sold my current iMac online and I need to format it and get it to its new owner before I will have my new iMac. Which I wont have until next week. So I dont think i can use the migration assistant, right? I'm thinking I just need to move everything over to an external harddrive. I've moved all of my itunes files onto it and all my photos. But I'm not sure how to get things like all my email messages that are on this computer on there. I would like to have all my email messages on my new iMac. Can anyone help me accomplish this and let me know anything else I would have to do or know during this transition?
I have been getting other peoples mail for a little over 3 weeks now. Here is the deal: My Email Address: gmbean@xxxxxxxx.xxx I Receive A Message To: gamboawilmer@xxxxxxx.xxx
There are over 50 senders and it seems that it is a computer that is making these messages. There are huge misspellings and what's worse is that these emails are all sexually orientated. There are no pictures! But I didn't sign up for anything and I just started getting these emails all of a sudden. Each email sender is different (different address) and I have made over 30 rules in Mail Preferences to simply delete any mail from the sender(s) But I get a couple new senders every day. I' am going to have over 100 rules if this continues!
Up until last Thursday, I'd never had any problems using my [URL] email.I moved everything to icloud about a month ago, but this didn't seem to have any effect on things. Then suddenly, every time I try to take my mac.com online via the icon on the desktop of my iMac, it just won;t take the account online.I can still access my email via icloud online, but that's it.
I have started getting bounced email messages showing my main Apple ID email address is being used to send SPAM to people I don't know. Does this mean that I will have to change my main email address? If I mark them as Junk Mail, will that affect my mail?
I'm trying to create a workflow in Automator which will basically:
- Fetch new email messages - Filter the messages so only ones with a certain sender come through - Take the attachment from these and save it in a folder
The following workflow works perfectly for it:
- "Get New Mail" - "Find Accounts in Mail" - "Get Attachments from Mail Messages"
I have experienced some problems with my email account recently which I think it is a spam attack. I've been receiving lots of spam messages and got my all messages in my inbox deleted. Sent items luckily are still there.
I wonder if there is anyway that iMail keeps copies of incoming messages so I can restore them. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me how to do that if its available.
I need to transfer old Email messages from a Powerbook G4 running 10.5.8 to a newer iMac running 10.6.8. I can move the messages from Mail Library into the newer Mac Mail Library (via home wireless network), but when I open Mail program on the new iMac the Emails don't show up in the Mailbox I transferred them to. I can see the messages in Mail Library and even read them if I double click on the message, but I can't see them in the Mail program. Is there a compatibility issue between Leopard and Snow Leopard?
I have created months ago a mail folder which automaticly places "spam" messages, and recently when I try to delete the messages from the folder , they become greyedout and cant be deleted.
