I'll be fitting my new 09 mac mini internal hard drive hopefully tonight. I want to copy all the information (programs etc) onto my new hard drive before I install it. Whats the best way of going about this? I already have an external caddy, so am I right in thinking I can put the new hard drive into that, connect it up to my mini, format it, install osx, and use migration assistant, or I vaguely remember something called 'cloner' or something similar to that name to copy all the data? That when all the info is copied I can take out the stock hard drive, remove the new drive from the external caddy and place it into the mac mini? Then it should boot up fine?

I have a Mac Pro with two hard drives. The one with my older system seemed to be failing, so I installed Lion on the other, newer drive. Now I'm facing the problem of having to transfer all my settings, iTunes info, Keychain, Apps/Serial Numbers/Permissions, etc. from the old system/drive to the new system/drive. How do I do this? (I'd like to be able to sync my iPhone again instead of being told it's already associated with a different computer!) I should add that the new system is already installed, so using a program like Carbon Copy Cloner would just erase that. I also already had data on the drive where the new system was installed, so wiping the drive was out of the question.

Issue: Set up a separate user and trying to import information from a Mac Book that is having issues. Mac Book was backed up to an external HD via Time Machine
Question: Is it possible to use time machine to transfer some of the information (photos, music, files) from the external hard drive to the Mac Mini? Is it possible to extract the information from the hard drive by connecting it to the Mac Mini without using Time Machine?
Well my macbook pro penryn has finally shipped out of Shanghai, and as that's real close to Singapore, the next two days will have it in my hands.
So I need to transfer my user from my current powerbook g4 (which I will sadly miss) to the new mac. I wondered whether going from PowerPC to Intel what the best way to go is.
Should I totally trust the migration assistant, even though I know I have things on the powerbook which aren't intel, or should I take an opportunity to build a new machine, pulling in my documents and downloads folders, and then redownloading things I actually use and setting them up from scratch? Does anyone know the options which Migration Assistant gives you (ie basic information, all document, all applications, ... etc), or is it just all or none.
For mail I have everything on IMAP, I think I want to just set up a new account and re-import everything. That sound right?
I need to deauthorize iTunes from this machine, I'm up to 4 in the house already.
My temptation is to build from scratch and lose 4 years of cruft, however I'm sure I've also customized things in the past (like AFP mounts) which I no longer quite remember what they were.
I need to transfer old Email messages from a Powerbook G4 running 10.5.8 to a newer iMac running 10.6.8. I can move the messages from Mail Library into the newer Mac Mail Library (via home wireless network), but when I open Mail program on the new iMac the Emails don't show up in the Mailbox I transferred them to. I can see the messages in Mail Library and even read them if I double click on the message, but I can't see them in the Mail program. Is there a compatibility issue between Leopard and Snow Leopard?

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

I am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've followed the steps to migrate the info from my work mac to my MacBook, but have copied over absolutely everything. It has meant that my original address book is now blank and I am unsure what other programs may have been affected. I am unsure whether to migrate the information back to the work mac and clean up the macbook and start again. Can someone advise me - but in layman's terms as I do not understand technical words!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the new base model 13-inch MacBook Pro, which was running perfectly until yesterday. Yesterday, the machine ran out of battery power and went into safe sleep. When I plugged in the power cord and woke it up, the bluetooth symbol in the menu bar had a jagged line through it. On restart, the bluetooth symbol had simply disappeared, and system profiler is showing bluetooth as "No information found.". I have had this problem before with a 2006 macbook, but it was solved by a restart. On searching the web I have found a number of suggested solutions, each of which I have tried: resetting PRAM, resetting SMC, deleting various bluetooth preferences, reinstalling OS X. None of these suggested solutions have worked.
