ive managed to re-sleep-able-it after i turned off "wake for ethernet admin call", but now i updated to 10.5.6 and it just fails to sleep alltogether. it just stays awake..
anyone else experienced that
After the latest update from mac this week all of my menu items on the upper right side of the window are gone. Clock, airport, sound, all of it. Have done everything from re-install to tech tool pro, to disk permission repair, called Apple, deleted old preferences, deleted possible conflicts.... you name it.

I tried to go back and install the updates again but there not there it says I'm all updated! but 10.5.8 is not the latest version right ? What should I do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis past Monday I arrived home after two weeks to find a bunch of updates waiting, which I happily installed. One was for the Time Machine/AirPort and the rest for the iMac. The computer would not restart after the updates. After spending the weekend reinstalling the system software and rebuilding the whole computer I went to restore from the Time Machine (but no!) and the Mac no longer communicated with the printer wirelessly. I think I figure out the Time Machine thing but I cannot print wirelessly even though the Mac says the printer is installed. I have a Brother MFC-J825DW?

I'm on 10.6.2 and got notified of a few software updates today including the superdrive firmware fix.
Ran the updates and rebooted and then did the superdrive firmware and rebooted.
I have an MS sidewinder mouse that has five mouse buttons all recognized by OS X. For the past year I have used mouse button 4 to launch expose and mouse button 5 to launch spaces.
After these updates Spaces will no longer launch when mapped to any button on the mouse. I've verified that the same button (button 5) works to launch other things such as Expose.
Can anyone else confirm this and is there any kind of fix or workaround to the issue?
I went through some fairly difficult procedures to rid my computer of Flashback and quickly got in over my head. So I called tech support, and they told me, if I have OS X 10.7 and do software updates regularly, that I have nothing to worry about. They said Safari is not compromised, and there's no reason not to enable Java. They said software updates is more important than any third party anti-virus or anti-malware software that I could run. I would like to know what some of you in the forum think about these issues.

I have the developers iOS 6 Beta on my iPhone 4s. I need the latest iTunes 10.6.3 to sync with iTunes. I went to www.itunes.com as it told me to and I went to the downloads page. Usually you enter your email and click the download button. My problem is there is is no download button or email box! I need to download the latest iTunes and I can't. I did a software update, but it does include iTunes I tried it on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, all coming up with the same thing. I am also using a Mac.

Why so many messing plugin messages after latest updates from Apple? What is the fix?
View 14 Replies View RelatedJust recently got back from a visit to my local Apple store in regards to a faulty power adapter. My Macbook started up fine at the store, as it has over the past two years. However, after getting home and trying to turn it on, the laptop fails to boot up. It sits at the grey screen with the Apple-logo and spinning progress circle, all while the fan starts to whirl as if my macbook were on fire. I've experienced a failed hard-drive before, so I know of the folder w/question mark screen, and this screen is not like that. I've also tried booting up in "Safe-Mode," but that won't work as well. I do have a start-up disk and external hard-drive... I'm just curious to see what other options I might have before reinstalling Leopard.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRan the update from the Apple Update, which included iLife update and some other minor updates to the airport. Now the thing takes about 6 mnutes to boot up and once booted up, it will not respond in any meaningful way. Endless beachballs abound! I've tried zapping the PRAM, but no luck.

Due to the slow internet available in my area and the cost of Verizon service, can I transfer updates from my laptop to my desktop? I use the library forupdates as their speed is much faster and I can carry the laptop.Â

I was prompted to install updates, it was the Thunderbolt Update and Application Loader. Both must be somewhat recent as I applied some updates a week ago. When the system rebooted it stuck on the gray screen. The apple logo never even comes on the screen. I have tried Safe Mode etc. but it never even makes it to the Apple logo. System has been running fine and normally boots in just a few seconds.

I have a late 2008 alumunium Macbook 2.4GHz, upgraded to 4GB RAM, running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Due to a kernel panic earlier today I went through the websites shown in this thread: [URL]. As I was doing some of the procedures, I came across a website about EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs shown below: [URL].
According to that website the Boot ROM Version on my late 2008 Aluminium Macbook, should be
MB52.008E.B05.
Instead it is
MB51.007D.B03
If I understand correctly, the support website probably has a typo, because my Macbook is coded Macbook 5,1 and not 5,2. Also on this website: [URL] it says MacBook5,1 will update to MB51.007D.003, which is still not the number I have in the System Profiler. Of course the above website has Mac OS X 10.5.7 as a requirement, so I'm not sure if the number changes in Snow Leopard. I just want to know if the Boot ROM Version in my System Profiler is ok, or if something is wrong.
When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook pro with PGP whole disk encryption and Snow Leopard and ran the latest OSX 10.6.5 update. During the reboot the mac would just hang at the gray screen indefinitely. I rebooted using the "cmd + S" key sequence and saw that the error where it was hanging stated "Still waiting for root device". Attempting to repair the hard drive using Disk utility off of the install CD failed, as well as attempts to rebuild the drive using Disk Warrior 4.2. I even went to a local Apple Store and the techs there didn't have a solution other than doing a re-install of OSX. At this point I was ready to cut my losses and erase the drive and do a fresh install. I'M GLAD I DIDN'T. I don't know why I didn't do this first but I went to PGP's website to download their recovery CD to try it and found an article that stated there was a known issue with PGP WDE and the latest 10.6.5 update. I followed the recovery procedures laid out here: [URL:...] and was able to boot up just fine.

I am currently happy with running XP on my mac with boot camp but I am not sure how to check if I have the latest version of it. How can I do that??
View 1 Replies View Relateddownloaded the newsest updates from Apple and now my computer won't start up. Goes to long in screen and won't let you type in pass word. Spinning Beach Ball of Death comes up and never stops.
I just keep shutting it down ( push off button on the back until it shuts off) and trying to start it again. Some times it will let you get a little farther, but always after 2-3 minutes it goes to SBBOD.
Lates thing I did was push option+command+S when I turned it back on and now screen is black and has a bunch of code. Been at this stage for 30 minutes now. It is not pluged into the internet at the moment.

iMac, OS X but not sure what version.
Minutes after receiving the Apple Security Update in my email, I quickly ran the system wide Apple Software Update (OS X Lion 10.7.4, Macbook Pro8,2). With the iTunes update came two other updates. The first update was for iPhoto '11. The second update was for the Thunderbolt to support Gigabit Ethernet. To the best of my knowledge, all went well with downloading. It was a hefty update, the iPhoto '11 update alone being 599.65 MB. After installation, a dialog appeared allowing the user to "Restart now" or later. A firm believer in immediately restarting the computer when it tells me to, I did so. Once the desktop faded, my mac began installing my updates as the updates could not have been installed while core system services were running. In about 10 minutes, the progress bar had reached the end, but a peculiar dialog appeared. It said that the updates that I wanted installed, were not installed. I pressed the only button on the dialog which removed the dialog box and left me with the empty wallpaper of the same texture as the iOS 5 Notification Center, the same wallpaper used during Mac Recovery during bootup. After another 10 minutes, nothing had changed; I was still staring at this lovely wallpaper. Knowing things had gone sour, I held down the power button for a few seconds until it turned off. After turning the computer back on, and booting into Mac OS X, I was, and still am, faced with a few lines of text.Â
Now I am unable to boot into Mac OS X.There is no recovery partition (as I'm triple booting, which apparently mac doesn't like), but I have booted into a Recovery-ish mode using the Lion Internet Recovery. I have verified the disk: no problems found, a good solid green line saying everything's ok. I went ahead and clicked on repair, to which it did not report fixing anything. I am currently booted into my Windows 7 (also noted my Windows is running incredibly slow, possibly just a placebo effect of me losing my Mac OS X) in which I am typing this. I have my Mac OS X backed up via Time Machine from earlier this morning but I would still like to not have to wipe hard-drive, install Snow Leopard upgrade to Lion, install Windows 7, install linux, and then restore respective operating system's data. Â Is there ANY possible way I can make my Mac OS X bootable again? Or even re-installing Snow Leopard/Lion without touching the partitions behind it?Â

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know the Boot Camp drivers that are shipping with the latest Mac Pro includes 64-bit drivers for Vista, but I was wondering if anyone has tried to see if they work on XP x64? That's the 64-bit Windows version I have on hand and it would be nice to get it to work. I don't suppose the drivers that shipped with the MacBook Air are any newer?
You would think that Apple would jump to support XP x64 given the commercials about people switching back from Vista to XP.
I installed Bootcamp on my MBP using the Leopard DVD which came out last Fall. Since 10.5.2 has been out, I suppose that there have been updates on the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows. Anybody knows how to get and install the latest drivers?
View 8 Replies View RelatedClicked restart and was presented with a screen that said "none of the software updates could be installed, an unexpected error occurred" I clicked OK, was left with blank screen that did nothing. So I powered down, and restarted, now I'm presented with a Unix screen indicating "unable to find driver for this platform" and a window instructing me to restart.
Restarting in any mode, shift, command, command s, etc will not move me past the Mac OS version not yet set screen. This is a mess. I installed Lion over the Internet and do not have a startup disk I can use to recover and reinstall to even restore from my Time Capsule ... Isn't there a way I can install over the Internet?
im having a problem with my mac, I turned it off earlier on today and only recently turned it back on to find that it won't boot up (meaning it stays on the apple logo and swirly loading wheel and doesn't do anything) I've tried safe mode but it appears with a question Mark on a folder for a split second (this didn't happen when i tried it in safe mode)
So i tried a last resort, reinstalling my OS, bearing in mind I'm also using an external CD drive as my one inside my mac has broke. I get to the part where it says "insert disk 2 to begin in-stallion" i do so then my external cd drive stops an my laptop freezes, the loading wheel on my curser just carries on turning. I have no access to my OS at all.
I logged onto my iMac today and checked for any updates. I found updates for iPhoto, Thunderbolt, Airport and I think Safari. After it downloaded the updates and installed them, it wanted to reboot. Upon clicking ok, it went to a grey screen while initializing the updates, or something to that effect. Then it said an unknown error occurred and press ok to reboot. I presses ok but nothing happened, the box disappeared and the blank grey screen remained.
So I rebooted and the logon screen came up. I put my password in, which was accepted and the iMac moved on to blank grey screen with the darker grey Apple symbol in the middle and the the 'thinking' wheel doing its little circling thing just below that. It's sits there like that and doesn't move to the desktop screen. I've tried rebooting but it stalls at the same point. It's running the latest version of X. It didn't come with any disks and I don't have Time Machine.

I'm considering buying an old G3 500 Mhz laptop. Seller says it can't boot by itself, either through its own hard drive or an OS Panther installer in the cd drive. It does give the welcome chime but the screen then displays the folder with the question mark. So it's either the hard drive or the logic board. Anybody try to boot off the cd thru an external cd drive (with its own external power supply)? There is no firewire port on this model. Yeah I know I'm supposed to press the option key before the welcome chime.
