Hardware :: Want To Add More Drives But Maintain One Bigger Partition?

Dec 20, 2008

So I guess when I first set up my Drobo I set it up with a 2TB limit per partition. Now I want to add more drives but maintain one bigger partition and not have to start a new one.Has anyone done this yet and would you be willing to tell me how?
I basically want to reformat my Drobo so I can set my limit to 8 or 16 TB limit.Right now my drobo is showing up as two separate 2TB partitions.

OS X :: Best Way To Maintain 2 Backup Drives With Time Machine?

Jan 11, 2009

I would like to maintain an off-site backup, and plan to rotate a hard drive on a monthly basis. I'm running 10.5.5 with Time Machine. I understand that I may need to initialize a new backup drive every time I switch drives? Any thoughts? Is Time Machine really the best way to go here?

OS X :: Shrinking HFS To Make NTFS Partition Bigger

Sep 8, 2009

All I want to do is simply shrink the size of my HFS+ partition and make my NTFS partition bigger. I tried CampTune but it doesn't detect my hard drive (common problem). I'm going to try iPartition soon. In Windows, resizing partitions was a snap. Doesn't seem to be that easy in OS X for some reason.

I was gonna try Disk Utility but it says that it may make my Boot Camp partition unbootable. I don't really want to take a chance. I just made my HFS+ partition smaller in boot camp, but it won't let me touch my NTFS partition. I'm thinking about going into Windows 7 and using Disk Management to extend the NTFS partition.

Windows On Mac :: Backup / Restore To Make Bigger Partition For Games?

Feb 17, 2010

I made my windows partition too small. I use it mainly for games and didn't fully realize the size of games these days. I decided to use a 500gb hd that regrettably is USB. I kept windows on my mac but moved steam and all the games onto the hd. Now everything is slow to load (naturally) and it just isn't a great experience. What would I need to do to backup windows onto the hd, delete my partition, make a new bigger partition, then restore onto my mac?

OS X :: How To Maintain The Details Of Files

Mar 19, 2009

.I have files I have received over time on my flatpanel imac. You now guess its really old in computer years. I need to transfer these files onto an external hard drive and from then to my newer computer. The problem is that I want to maintain the details in those files. You know how when you right click a pic or sound file and chose view options/details(I forgot what it is) then you get dated created, date modified, last opened, all this extra information? I really need to save this information specially date created. If I transfer them will the new date created be the date of transferring the files or will it maintain its original date?

OS X V10.3 :: Can Install 10.2.2 To Fix Classic 9.2.2 And Still Maintain 10.3.9 OS

May 24, 2012

Can I install my OS 10.2.2 disk, which includes OS 9 Classic, to fix Classic and maintain my hand-me-down 10.3.9 (with no disks)?  My attempt at installing 9.2.2 disk shows "more than one system found, please choose"  (available folders) which show the same message. I've been in cummunicado for a long time (years) and am wondering if the abandonment of 10.3.9 means the loss of use of my beloved pinball and Scrabble (legacy?) games in any new Mac?

I need the Classic to use my library of legacy games, but the 10.3.9 as a (somewhat) useful internet so I can put this old goat (the device!, not me)out to pasture to live its final year(s) doing good deeds like running UC Berkeley's BOINC program to search for extraterrestrial life (SETI). No kidding. I'm currently using an HP Pavilion with Window Vista.

Hardware :: Mighty Mouse Not Able To Maintain Button Press?

Oct 6, 2010

recently, my mouse has been having a lot of trouble holding its "click". By this I mean when I, for example, attempt to drag a file folder to folder or even drag a window around, it loses the "hold" and usually ends up dropping the file and clicking something else. Oftentimes if i right click hold it will lose the hold and select something else in the menu.Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? I'm not certain that it is a hardware problem either, if maybe it is something to do with my iMac itself?

Aperture :: How To Relocate Masters And Maintain Project Structure

Jul 1, 2014

I have tens of thousands of images in a hierarchical project structure:

---2014

    |---First project
|---Second project
    |---etc.
    |---Last project

   2013

    |---First project
    |---Second project
    |---etc.
    |---Last project

   2012

    |---etc.
   etc.

I want to relocate these masters into a directory structure that exactly matches the project structure. Best I can tell, the basic "relocate masters" functionality can only dump images into a single directory. Any way to mirror the project structure on the filesystem?

MacBook Pro :: Keeping Battery Charged And Calibrated To Maintain Health

Dec 1, 2009

Ever since owning the uMBP, I have kept the battery charged and monthly calibrate it to maintain a 100% battery health. But through this, the laptop limits its portability and it is sometimes extremely tedious to find a plug in order to use it. My question is: Is it really worth it to keep a good battery that will last overtime, or would you prefer simply purchasing a new battery when your old one dies? Also, how big of a difference does a healthy battery compare to a battery put through regular use?

How to - Creating and maintaining Lossless and Lossy music libraries in iTunes 9
A forum member has asked for information on how to create a new library for his music collection and below is my attempt to help. Having done this myself and never finding a complete step-by-step guide, I?ve attempted to make one of my own. Many others have helped me along the way so this is my way of giving back. Unfortunately, I don?t have my MBP right now and won?t have a Mac around for about two months. Please feel free to add feedback, tell me where I?m wrong, what?s missing or offer other ways of accomplishing these tasks. Once I get MR member input, I will update this post to reflect the best current practices for creating and maintaining two separate libraries for your lossless and lossy music collection. At the bottom of the post I list a couple of known issues and have a couple of questions so please chime in.

OS X :: Are Solid-state Drives Faster Than Hard Disk Drives?

Sep 13, 2009

I'm looking at the specs page for the MacBook Pro and it reads this...

Your MacBook Pro comes standard with a 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive. Choose a hard drive with a faster speed for greater performance. Or you can choose a solid-state drive that offers enhanced durability.

Basically suggesting that the HDD option has a performance advantage over the SSD, but is this the case? I always thought SSDs could read & write quicker because they use solid-state flash memory as opposed to hard disks.

I want to go with the 256GB SSD but I want to know how it ranks in speed.

OS X :: Time Machine - Two Source Drives To Two Backup Drives

MacBook Air :: Using With Bigger Monitor?

Feb 20, 2008

Has anyone run a 20 or 23" display with the Air? Ok? Closed or open case? Wireless keyboard and mouse, too?

And, general impressions about running photo programs like PS, Elements, Aperture (not video, I think I know the answer to that, but correct me...).

In other words, where does the Air hit the wall for reasonably fast digital photo work? 1.6 or is 1.8 really a difference maker for this?

I have a chance at a cheap Apple 20" alum monitor. If the Air can really handle moderate photo work and run a big screen well, that would give me a nice set-up to be sure.
