OS X :: Unable To Print Anything / Printers Don't Respond
Oct 13, 2009
All of a sudden we can't print anything. Have a couple of Macbook Pros, an iMac and two printers hooked up to Expresses through our Airport Extreme network. Printing usually works fine, now, nothing! When we go to print, the macs act as though everything's okay, but the printers don't respond. I tried hooking my macbook pro directly to one of the printers, and still nothing. Mysterious and I can't figure out how to even see what the problem is.
I have lost my printers in the System Preferences, Print/Fax window. When I click on the + sign to create a new printer, the window shows my laser printer listing , but only for two seconds when the window automatically closes. I cannot click on More Printers or any of the top buttons - the window still closes. My laser printer is on an Ethernet network.
Bought a Mac pro last month. It can directly detect the printer and print. Suddenly it can't print and show the message driver can't find. From that day identify and issue was the spotlight didn't work. Immediately send the hardware to the nearest store. Store helper advise to format the machine. No choice I have to allow them do it. Before format I do raise out the printing matter, they are so confident and tell apple mac is auto detect. Unfortunatelly the printer matter wasn't resolve. Need advise on this matter. On the other hand, how to made an complaint about store bad service at the store. The outlets :- Switch outlet located at taiping branch. Perak . MAlaysia.

I have a new MacBook Pro at the new job. All software is up-to-date (10.7.3).
In all apps, when I click on the PRINT button, nothing happens. I opened the PRINT QUEUE and there's no record of anything being sent to the printer. I've gone and done the RESET THE PRINT SYSTEM process. No change.
In a Windows network environment, printing over network. It seems to not have anything to do with the network, though, as I can see the printers and get them set up, and I get no error message. The PRINT button is just...dead.
Upgraded from 10.5.3 to 10.6.8. Now printers HP5550 and HP940c won't print from my MacBook 1.1, purchased on 11.09.06. Went to Gutenprint and downloaded the GIMP and XQuark apps. but they just messed up my system and I trashed them. The HP printers say the drivers cannot be changed. I read in Apple's small brochure that "Snow Leopard makes sure you have the most up-to-date printer driver. If not, it downloads the newest version." This did NOT happed. I also have a MacBook Pro 7,1 and the printers work fine with that.
When printing, all of my old, discarded printers are in the list brought up by the dialog box. They are gray, but still, it's an extensive list. How can I remove them?
I seem to be unable to add PDF to my list of printers, as I have been able to do in the past. Is it no longer necessary to add a .PPD file to print directly to PDF from, say, Illustrator or InDesign?

Is there a way to force Safari to print what I see on a webpage, and not default to the print style? I'm trying to print a graphically-rich site and the print.css doesn't cut it, making everything look like trash (unformatted text, etc.).
I'm trying to print an Excel 2004 .xls spreadsheet file where I'm using to record attendance for the class I teach.I have my main Column A with Rows A-X and it shows up fine, I imagine because there is content in the boxes.
But I also have Columns B-L and rows A-X with nothing in their cells, but when I print it, they won't print.I need these blank because I'll check them off if the child in the first column attended the lesson. How do I make it so my many blank cells will print as well?
I'm new to Mac OS X, but have been working with Linux for almost 9 yrs now. I have set up a Linux box with CUPS 1.3.9. I can print from the server, and from other Linux stations to that remote server. However, I can't print from a client MacBook.
I set up CUPS on the client Mac via http://localhost:631 and created a printer associated with the remote queue / printer on Linux (the URL I use on OS X is http://mylinuxserver:631/printers/hpprinter and the driver is RAW).
I have no problems sending a test page from the CUPS web interface on Mac OS X to the Linux server -- the test page gets printed OK. However, I can't see the printer I just defined from other Mac OS X apps, and neither can I see it from the Add Printer Dialog on System Preferences (it's empty).
I tried creating the printer at the Add Printer dialog, but it would neither let me specify an HTTP URL (as far as I know, I had to use the IP icon on the toolbar) nor specify "RAW". So I tried creating a "dummy" printer in the Add Printer dialog, with a basic config, and then changing it from the CUPS web GUI. This didn't work either, since when I went back to the Add Printer dialog, the printer was gone.

I've spent the morning trying to get printer sharing to work for the following situation, additionally illustrated by the attached image: I have a network centered around a Belkin router. An iMac is connected to it with an Ethernet cable, a HP PSC 2110 printer is in turn connected to the iMac with a USB cable.
Wirelessly, a number of laptops connect to the network. There is a MacBook Pro, that doesn't have a single issue whatsoever. Also, there is a DELL Inspiron 9400 running XP with Service Pack 3, protected by a McAfee security suite. What I'm desperately trying to do, is to enable the DELL to wirelessly print from the HP printer connected to the iMac. Obviously the iMac itself is able to print, and the MacBook Pro plays nice as well.
Now, there are about a million threads on this topic, with situations quite similar, but none of the solutions proposed anywhere seem to get the whole thing running. For this reason, I decided to have people shine their light on exactly my own situation, in case I am missing something.
The Bonjour software on the DELL is up-to-date, but giving the "No Bonjour printers are available" message (I'm not sure about the exact wording, since in my situation it is in Dutch.) The McAfee firewall is set to allow Bonjour full network access, and additionally UDP port 5353 is opened up. Obviously Printer Sharing is turned on on the iMac.I'm at a complete loss, so I came here to look for an answer. Or someone to tell me to forget it, it's not going to happen. I'd take anything right now.
i'm trying to print some stuff off using adobe and some parts are printing, but some aren't. I've had this problem before i would print of some formula sheets for my finance class and basically if it wasn't a letter it wouldn't print it off but now it's taking out a lot more.
in the first picture you can see how i went through and wrote the stuff in, wasn't that big of a deal.
second picture is one page from the file that printed out fine
third picture, the entire top part is supposed to have a paragraph on it.
Having printer issues after upgrading? Both my printers HP deskjet 6840 and HP officejet g85 will not print properly and I have been unable to find drivers for Mac OS 10.6.8 online.
1. the Spotlight function of "Show all" does not response when I click on it. I did try it on another account on the same machine and the problem still there.
2. Right click on the Trash bin and selecting "Empty trash" does not do much. I have to go to Finder and selecting "Empty trash. Why is that?
3. In Finder if I am trying to search using the little search space at the top right as I type a couple of letters, it freezes, close unexpectedly and ask me if I want to report the error to Apple.
Are all the problem above related?
4. How can I get a new link in Safari 4 to open in a new tab and not in a new window?
I was just using my powerbook G4 12" when it "clicked", the screen went black and it will not respond. the power cable light is on, and I've tried another battery, but it does not turn on! the little light on the latch button that glows usually, is not on. What has happened to my Powerbook????! I don't have applecare but I imagine I will be calling Apple this morning unless someone can help here
Is there any thing available that will allow me to print to a PDF file? I'm trying to export something to a PDF file that does not have the feature as standard. I know it can be done in Windows as there are a few Print to PDF applications. but I can't find a Mac one.
I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer!
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.
I can't print to my network computer after 10.6.3. I can however print using Parallels, but I can't print from say preview or any other OSX based software.
The printer is an HP 4200 Laser jet that I access through an ethernet on my work network. I'm the only Mac in the office and am getting ridiculed for not being able to print from OSX.I tried downloading the HP drivers and re installing them but no luck...
So the printer that I have is a Canon MP620. Everything was working fine until I installed Snow Leopard, now it wont print wirelessly and it tells me that "printer in offline" when its obviously not.
I was wondering if anyone here has an Epson Artison 800 printer and has upgraded to Snow Leopard. I made the mistake of installing snow leopard last weekend, and have not been able to print since. I searched for new drivers and found a couple, but still have no luck.
I have an HP Photosmart printer connected, via USB, to a PowerPC Mac. The Mac has Bonjour on it and it acts as a print server to a Mac laptop and a Dell laptop. Until recently, everything was working fine. Now, however, when I try to print from the Dell laptop, I get a pstopdffilter error message. I can still print from the Mac laptop.
I am not able to print my .pdf file. Firstly, I had the 8.1 ...adobe reader version. However when I tried to sent pdf file to print, adobe reader would quit immediately. Secondly, I deleted the old one and reinstalled adobe reader 9.1.3 (my mac has mac os 10.5.8) and still I am not able to print the .pdf file but this time adobe reader doesn't quit, I keep getting the message that the document could not be printed.
Since installing Snow Leopard I've been unable to print from Safari. When I click File>Print no print window appears and more often than not it locks up Safari requiring a Force Quit.I'm not having this issue with any other apps including Firefox.
I moved up to the HP P1006 since my 1020 was not compatible with 10.6. It has been working great until a hotel sent me a receipt in pdf format. I open the file try to print from the pdf and from the mac, both ways and I get this:
/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster failed
I am not a techie, and have no idea what that means. Anyone have an idea?
I just upgraded from a G4 running tiger to a macpro desktop running leopard.I have a hp designjet 800ps plotter connected via usb hub. Ever since I upgraded I have been unable to print. I installed the driver for this plotter off the leopard install dvd and then installed the latest driver from the HP website but to no avail. The plotter shows up in the printers list and when I send a file to the printer it says it is printing but then nothing happens. I really need to get this issue resolved so
Excel 10.1.4 running on OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I am suddenly unable to print any Excel documents. Nothing happens when selecting print. Under page setup, when seleting options the settings are blank. When using the up/down arrows, page attributes is checked, but upon releasing the arrows, the settings remain blank. this is true of all old douments and any new ones. The printer is a HP930C. All other applications are blank. I understand that this is probably a Microsoft issue but have been unable to access/find a Mac Excel forum or trouble shooting area. (Yes all these applications and the printer are old).
I open System Prefs and click 'Print & Fax'. I click + to add a printer. The dialog box opens for a few seconds and then closes. Just that window. I cannot add a printer at all or even print anything for that matter. I ran Printer Therapy and it finds nothing wrong. Same with TechTool Pro. Nothing seems to be wrong except this.
