OS X :: Unable To Disable Trackpad Option / Not Finding Settings

Sep 1, 2009

I have a Bluetooth mouse that I use with my MacBook Pro.

In Tiger & Leopard, I was able to set my Mac so that it disabled the trackpad from use when the Bluetooth mouse was connected. I just noticed that that setting has been undone and I can't seem to find the preference to set that setting.

Anything? Thoughts? This obviously isn't a crisis, I'm just curious if they've moved the preference someplace else... or something.

MacBook :: Disable MB Trackpad Button But Not The Whole Trackpad?

Apr 8, 2009

My MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.

Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.

OS X :: How To Disable The Dock Hiding Option

Feb 5, 2010

I'm the computer teacher at a school and I'm trying to lock down the computers somewhat so that the kids don't mess with settings. When they inevitably do, I waste time restoring them to normal so that other kids aren't confused.

I've used software like TinkerTool and Deeper to prevent modifications to the dock icons. The main accounts used by the students are parental controlled so that they can't access System Preferences. I turned Dock Hiding off in there. However, they can still click on the option area (the lines) in the dock and turn it back on there. I know it doesn't seem like too big a deal, but when the older kids do this and a 1st grader sits down, they get confused and have to ask for help. If a dozen ask for help, it wastes time in class.

So is there a way to disable the ability to have that option available? I'd actually like to get rid of of the Hide, Magnification, and Position options in that little menu.

MacBook Pro :: Any Possibility To Disable Trackpad?

Oct 14, 2010

Is there any way to disable the trackpad on a Macbook Pro? I ask because my previous Compaq laptop had a physical button to turn off the trackpad. This was actually very useful in preventing inadvertent actions, with certain programs. Maybe it's not that big of a deal for most people, but after having a computer that was able to do this, it just seems like a nice feature to have.

MacBook Pro :: How To Disable Gestures On Trackpad

Jul 18, 2009

Just got my 17" Macbook Pro about two weeks ago.

At first, I really loved doing gestures on the trackpad.

Now, I find it a nightmare.

It is so easy to move my finger the wrong way and accidentally resize the page. I will be in the middle of surfing or even typing a message and if my finger is not completely curved, I will throw the trackpad into gesture mode and my screen goes into multiple resizes.

I found no way to turn the gestures off under PREFERENCES -> TRACKPAD.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Force Require Password Option - Not Allowing User To Disable It

May 2, 2012

Just curious if there is a way to not allow the user to change the "Require password" option (Security Prefs/General) in Lion (10.7.3). If I make the user managed by the server I could disable the pane, but I'd rather than do that in this case. Any way to do it with a standalone machine? I want to force the Require password option and not allow the user to disable it.

Windows On Mac :: Disable Trackpad Input When External Mouse Plugged In?

Aug 5, 2007

I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about, but in OS X, there's this option that disables input from the trackpad when an external mouse is plugged in. I couldn't find something similar to that for Windows, and since I use Boot Camp to play a few games in Windows and my palms keep swiping the corners of the trackpad (thereby making my aim wonky) I wanted something that would have the same effect.

So I Googled. And searched. And searched.

Best solution was to go to Control Panel and disable the mouse. But I'm lazy, I want something to do it for me, automatically, if possible.

So, in the interest of pure laziness, I... wrote a utility to do pretty much exactly that. It supports manually enabling or disabling the trackpad, and also automatically enabling and disabling it when an external mouse is plugged in/removed.

URL

So, if any of you guys are using Windows to play games or do anything else, and you have the same issue with the trackpad that I do, hopefully this helps you guys out too.

If not, well, thanks for reading and I'm jealous of your smaller palms and/or dexterous avoidance of palm/trackpad slippage!

Note: Still might be bugs and things. Feedback appreciated, but constructively, of course.

MacBook :: Option In Settings Where I Can Close The Laptop Up?

May 17, 2009

I'm a new Mac user, and new to this forum, Just wanted to ask a quick question about connecting my new macbook to my TV.

I connected it up no probs and have sound aswell - but can I shut my Laptop lid, and have access to the computer? I have movies in iTunes that I want to watch, whilst they are displayed perfectly on my TV, my laptop is kinda in the way and distracting whilst watching the TV.

Is there an option in Settings where I can close the laptop up, but still have it running, rather than going to sleep?

I own a bluetooth mighty mouse and keyboard so I will still be able to control the macbook....I just want to shut the lid whilst watching films, etc.

MacBook Pro :: Unibody Trackpad Clicking Settings

Sep 1, 2010

Just wondering how to adjust my settings with the new trackpad? Would prefer it to be like the older MBP however with the new track pad seems things got all messed up due to the new settings. 3 finger swipe 4 finger swipe. I know to go to system settings > trackpad but from there I don't know how to set it up without all the extra stuff. I did something and now when i double click anything on the desktop it will not open so cannot double click to open things or double click to highlight text. I've tried everything and cannot get it fixed. It will let you double tap the top of trackpad but then you have to scroll to the open and click open. Is there anyway to set it up the trackpad to open icons by double clicking them? Or just dumb down the settings to standard point/click double click to open.

I've rebooted, adjusted a trackpad settings and don't know what to do at this point.

MacBook Pro :: Finding A 13" MBP Matte Screen Option?

Jun 20, 2010

i know theres alot to read about the matte-and-glossy discussion on the web, but the bottomline is always the same:

- anti-glare screen protectors is something you should not use
- theres no option for the 13", go buy a 15" MBP if you want matte screen

I've been in a store (several times) and I'm working on an iMac 21.5" and I am sure now, i can't live with the glossy screen.

I'm programming, so I have to read all that tiny symbols on my screen without suffering from a headache and I defently will with the glossy screen.

On the other hand I need a 13" Notebook because I will use it on seminars and stuff.

Right now I have a Sony Notebook which is nice, but not a Mac and after 6 months working on an iMac I don't want to miss all the nice features and gimmicks Windows 7 doesn't have, even if it got improved a lot, it is no OS X ;-)

Do you guys think, that there is a chance that Apple will present a matte screen option for the MacBook Pro 13" or the MacBook?

I was not able to find out why exactly Apple is not selling the MBP 13" with a matte screen, since there are a lot of potential customers that won't buy a glossy MBP.
Is there a technical reason or something?

f you could tell me that reason I could stop hoping and waiting and just go for another winbased Notebook I don't really want but need.

Windows On Mac :: Finding The New Trackpad Drivers For Xp

Sep 21, 2009

I find the new trackpad drivers to be pretty horrible. It's so sensitive that it picks up all the minor movements.

It gets really frustrating because whenever I use my thumb to press down the trackpad, the trackpad picks up all those mini movements causing the cursor to shift a little everytime I press down the trackpad. This makes double clicking pretty hard.
