Hardware :: New Magic Trackpad Settings Not Showing Up In System Preferences?
Aug 23, 2010
I just bought a new Apple Magic Trackpad and after playing with it at the store I went into the settings to set a few things however when I got mine home and installed/paired it with the Bluetooth, I'm not showing any settings in my System Preferences for the Trackpad.

I just plugged headphones into the headphone port on my iMac(dual core 2.4) I went to system preferences, sound, then output and only the internal speakers show up. I rebooted the machine and still, same thing.
I tried the same headphones on the eMac sitting next to it, and it worked just fine. Still confused about the iMac

I seem to have misplaced the recovery discs for my brand new macbook. I'm thinking about upgrading the hard drive to a 500 gb store bought one but I have a question about the lack of a recovery disc.
I have a family pack of leopard licenses for other machines and one to spare which I have no problem using, but I was wondering if that leopard installation would install the trackpad features for my macbook. Will I see trackpad in system preferences? Will it work just like it did?
If so, I don't really care about the recovery disc. Otherwise, I might have to invest in another one.

I am running an iMac G5 (just pre Intel) using OS 10.4.11. My internet is via an external modem, ethernet connected. Everything is working fine (as far as I know!) However, for no particular reason I opened "System Preferences" and on clicking on "Network" was confronted with this:- [URL]. On clicking the OK button nothing happens and the only way to get out of System Preferences is to Force Quit it. As I can't get into "networks" in System Preference, I have no idea how the settings have changed. I can't remember when I last installed any new software - it's also ages since I looked at that section of System Preferences.

I have a 2007 imac and have done all updates that I know of but the transition to icloud is not working very well.
1) icloud does not have an icon in system prefernces, it's still mobile me. Although there is a message that states the account has been moved, I cannot sync etc.
2) two of my email addresses will not stay connected in mail. Since moving to icloud I have had to reinstall them everyday.
3) I host three websites from iweb but since the change to icloud I cannot find my former account where I can access my web domain info that used to be easily found in my mobile me account page.
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

I upgraded from Leopard to SL, but couldn't get some software to work - so downgraded back to leopard. Since then, in setting up a proxy, when I enter the username and password, and apply, gong back to the proxy screen again, the username and password isn't there. I suspect a permissions issue.

Has anyone figure out how to stop that annoying loop in system preferences that says settings have been changed??I can get out of it by a two handed click on the OK button and locations but then it just comes back. I don't want to delete all the info on there and have to retype in.I'm only finding old posts back in 2008 on this! Am I that far behind??I was hoping a permanent easy fix has been found by now. I haven't had the need to get into System pref.

I'm looking to get either a Magic Mouse or the Magic trackpad to use with my iMac. Do they both work with Windows? My wife uses Windows Vista on bootcamp for work. Also, I do play some games, nothing heavy duty.Any other thoughts or suggestions would be helpful, especially concerning the magic trackpad as my experience with it is approximately 10 minutes at my local Apple store.

For those who have purchased the new iMac or are thinking of purchasing, definitely go with a Magic Trackpad. The Magic Mouse is a little better for dragging and dropping, but the Trackpad is so much more enjoyable to use for everything elseApple should really figure out a way to make this a packaging option

I just purchased a Apple Wireless Keyboard for my MacBook Pro. And I was wondering if I should get a Magic Mouse or Magic trackpad. I love to use my computer from my tv while I sit on the couch and I like to use it from a distance from my tv. Please help by reply and tell me.

when I open my Network in System Preferences, "Network settings have been changed by another application" pops up and every time I click Ok, it pops up again, not letting me be able to access any other option in the Network window. The wireless icon has disappeared from my top bar and the only way I have managed to get online is via my ethernet cable. I have had nothing but problems since I started using my O2 Wireless Broadband dongle and I've noticed that behind the "Network settings have been changed by another application" notification, I can seen the Dongle has appeared as a new network connection option... but was never there before today (have been using the dongle for two months now)

I'm using Jitouch 2 on my MacBook Pro for a couple of weeks now and it's just amazin.Since my new iMac arrived yesterday, i was wondering whether anyone has already tested the beta version of Jitouch 2 where support for the new Magic Trackpad was added.
"We're glad to announce that jitouch 2.3 beta now supports Magic Trackpad. But unfortunately, due to the new Apple's Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0, some of the gestures in jitouch no longer work properly and a few of them may be permanently removed from the next version of jitouch. We are currently working on updating our software and adding the next "cool" Magic Trackpad features."

I recently got myself a Magic Trackpad for my TV-computer(a Mac mini running 10.7.3). It seems to work fine, but there's an annoying problem. I can't use it to click on things on the login screen. When I've logged in I can click around on various items, but not on the login screen and since this computer have a couple of family accounts it's a bit annoying. I can move around the pointer so it's not entirely dead, but I can't click making it a bit hard to choose the account you want to login as.Is this how it's supposed to work or is there some setting I've missed?

I am currently using the Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse at the same time and finding it to be a good setup. However there is one minor annoyance, they are both paired and recognised by the mac but I always have to go into bluetooth prefs and connect to the mouse whereas the pad connects automatically. Is there any way to make the mac auto connect to both devices at the same time to avoid this?

Now that both have been out for a few months has one shown to be better than the other? I like the looks of the MTP and fact the surface is larger. I like the fact the Bamboo is USB and has 4 hard buttons. Prime importance though is work flow. So which one wins out there -- or is it a tie?

I recently got a preowned iMac which came with the Apple Wired Keyboard (with numeric keypad) and a Logitech mouse. Ive always been a fan of the idea of the Mighty Mouse even although it is old, the Magic Mouse looks really classy and cool but I do do a lot of graphic design and I am on the Mac quite a lot and I have heard it can get rather uncomfortable. And the Magic Trackpad, I am honestly not too sure about at all, what do you guys think would be best for me? I am a new Mac user so I am unsure what would be best for different features, thanks

After many years of using a PeeCee for my personal machine, I've switched over to Mac. I've never been a fan of trackpads for pointers/mice until I purchased my uMBP (2 weeks ago today). The MBP trackpad is the first trackpad I've used and liked.
I have played with the magic mouse a few times, and I just don't like the operation of it. It's too low to the desktop and I'd prefer something that is stationary for "mousing"...
Is there a good trackpad alternative for the desktops that uses identical gestures to the uMBP trackpad? I've seen the Wacom Bamboo family and see that they support gestures -- but I don't know if the gestures are identical between something like this and the uMBPs trackpad.
