this is pretty strange and I'm wondering if this has occured to anybody. I wasn't able to click anything and the only way to shut down was to force shut down. I found it odd that iStat was working though. I'll stop because a picture is worth 1000 words
View 4 RepliesMy Time Machine drive is a USB hard disk, and when I plug it in, I am unable to get it to eject (even if the Time Machine preferences show that I am NOT backing the disk up). When I unplug it, I get the warning message about not unplugging drives before ejecting. Is is there a way for me to "force eject" or force anything accessing my time machine volume to shut down, so that I can properly eject it?

I am running Mac OSX 10.7.3 and I recently been having issues shutting down my computer with mail running. Sometimes it takes 2-3 mins for it to shut mail down and other times it says it couldn't shut down because of the mail app. Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling Lion?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI had to dissassemble my wireless Mighty Mouse to clean it properly, as the trackball was unable to scroll up and down. As I had cleaned the trackball, I attached the two internal cables to their respective "slots" again and assembled the mouse.
Now my right button does the same as the left button (right click = left click). I tried dissassembling the mouse again, but I cannot see what I could have done wrong. After all, there are only two cables to attach and de-attach inside it.
I have a 15" MacBook Pro unibody, when I click shut down, to turn it off, it just restarts! It doesn't shut down. The only way to turn it off is to hold down the power button for a few seconds. Even then, sometimes when I do that, it will randomly power up without touching it at all.
start up the computer and all is fine it is really cool how you dont see the black screen or anything it is all smooth looking with the setup boxes but when it gets to where you should have the normal desktop this wierd program comes up instead. i cant see the start button or my computer or anything it is like some kind of other program on top of it that i cant quit. i have tried everything but when i click shut down it just shuts down the whole computer not getting me to my desktop.
View 18 Replies View Relatedwatch Youtube vids using H.264 MP4 codec instead of flash. As most of the videos I watch are recent uploads (last year or so) they have SQ and HQ H.264 version available. As Flash eats up system resources worse then anything I can think of at the moment, I am trying to find a way to force the videos to play in MP4 format. I know ClicktoFlash has this option for Safari, but I am trying to find out if there are any other ways to do this without user input (for playlists). I use YousableTubeFixURL for Chrome and Firefox which has the option to do this, but no matter what option I choose, it always plays using Flash. I know FF doesnt have a built in MP4 player, but I though I heard of a way to get VLC or Quicktime to play it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have some software such as mail, text edit running and suddenly it stop responding. The mouse cursor keep on spinning for a long time. What you normally do is hit Option + Command + Esc to force quit the software. After i've done so. The software crashed and ask you to send in the crashed report and everything else is very normal. But the software dint actually quite. i can still see a small indication (at the dock) below the icon that the software still running and when i hit Option + Command + Esc again. I still can see the software in the force quite dialog, it doesn't report it as stop responding. When i check the Activity Monitor, there is nothing there.

I'm sure it's not a virus but I'd like to prevent this episode again.
-About 10 minutes ago I inserted my memory stick into my keyboard, and then connected to Cisco.
-I then tried to connect to my school's server and while the progress bar was loading I opened InDesign.
-The Indesign icon started doing it's little jumping thing but nothing was happening. I minimized my browser to look at the progress bar and it was still trying to connect to server. I waited about 2 minutes and when nothing happened I tried a force quit.
-It said that InDesign was not responding so I Force Quit it and nothing happened.
-I then tried to shut down the progress bar but I had that infuriating pinwheel going.
-I decided on a manual shutdown.
-I then turned the computer back on.
-Repeated the same steps except that this time Force Quit said my Safari AND Finder was not responding.
-I Force Quit Finder first. Then Force Quit Connecting to server but all of a sudden my desktop items disappeared as well as my toolbar at the top.
-I tried another manual shutdown because I couldn't call up my Force Quit with my shortcut keys and waited a minute.
-Turned my computer back on but the screen hadn't changed it was as if I had merely put my computer to sleep. I tried this twice.
-Then I turned it off again and this time unplugged my computer and waited a couple seconds.
-I am now on my third try and am afraid to connect to my school's server. I have only opened Safari to type this. I have an assignment due tomorrow!
I have a PowerMac G4 that isn't saving the settings when I shut the computer down. I think it might be the battery on the mobo, but I'm not totally sure. does anyone know of any other reason why it would do that or confirm my suspicions?

Everything's connected, but both drive trays open when I restarted -- and they refuse to shut. Push them in -- they open straight back up again. Even with a disk in them. When I shut down the Pro, they both close.
Neither of them shows up in Disk Utility.
What do I need to do? Any suggestions?
I just purchased my imac last week. I am trying to shut down my computer so I can go to sleep. Everytime I try to shut it down a window pops up and it reads "can not shut down programs are still operating go to finder."
View 1 Replies View RelatedI enabled the Mac equivalent to fast user switching (allows more than 1 profile to be logged in); when I want to shut down the system I get box that says other people are signed on, if you want to shut down, enter user name and password.
The problem is that no matter which user id/password combo I put in, it is not recognized; not even either of the admin users.
I'm not very computer literate. When I go to my bookmarks and click on any chosen site nothing happens they do not load.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout 10 minutes ago I was transferring some files from a USB stick when my Macbook just stopped responding to the click-pad. I can't right/double-click on anything! The cursor works fine and I can move it around but if I hit the clickpad, nothing happens... I can't get into anything, change anything...
I don't know what to do. I tried using the trackpad to click instead but all that does is give me a lasso tool and still can't click anything but it selects icons on my desktop. It also just selects the top bar automatically but I can't click on anything in the menu.
I thought it was my hardware but I plugged in a mouse and still nothing! I can left-click with the mouse but not right-click. I've tried rebooting and nothing changed.
It's like my right-click is constantly pressed down. But it's not physically.
Also, when I leave it alone it tries to go into the screensaver but constantly comes back out again, so it results in flashing between Flurry and my desktop.

Computer won't shut down now, I just get the spinning disk icon.
I've discovered this weird thing and wonder if it's just my system. If I set the double click speed to its maximum value (System Preferences -> Mouse) I can no longer open with double click folders that are on my desktop while it still works from the finder. I got the same thing from the mouse and from the trackpad. I have OS X 10.5.6.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter this 10.6 update I haven't been able to click in the scroll bars in iTunes to jump positions in the window. I have to use the arrows or trackpad/mouse scrolling. It's a small thing, but I have a lot of playlists and it's really annoying. I haven't had this problem with any other software. I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro.
