Mac OS X Lion Server :: Migrate Server Mail System From 10.7 To 10.7?
May 31, 2012I need to reinstall my server becouse it got some issues. The problem is there is a active apple mail server on it. And we need to migrate all the mails and accounts to a new 10.7 installed mac. But since there is problems with the settings in the old one (deep down somewhere), we dont want to clone the whole system, just move the mail database and user accounts.
So I can export the OD directory to the new system. That should take care of the accounts. But does the mail db follow the export? Can I just copy the db files to the new system or will they not work with the new accounts?

Mar 26, 2012When the hard drive on my MacBook Pro 13 needed to be wiped clean, I restored all my files from Time Machine except for my iPhoto files. Not sure why my iPhoto library wasn't restored, but it wasn't, and I can't find it on my Time Capsule. I want to move my partial iPhoto library from my old MacBook Pro to my new one. I understand this is possible by linking them in some way.

May 16, 2012I'd like to migrate my old iPhoto Library from an external HD to my new iMac. I've copied the 'iPhoto Library' folder to my desktop, but am not sure what to do from there because I've got two library files (?), 'Library.iPhoto' and 'Library6.iPhoto' in the 'iPhoto Library' folder.
I've read some of the other discussions re. migrating libraries, but I'm afraid I'm confused! I've been mostly PC based for so long, I don't know all the dos and don'ts of using Mac... and don't want to mess with files and folders I'm not supposed to touch.

I want to transfer my iTunes library from my PC to my MacBook Pro, and then set up my iPod Touch for the MackBook.
Most of the library is on a USB 1 terabyte drive. I am tempted to plug the USB drive into the MacBook and just copy my music directory over. Then make sure the path is set correctly on the MacBook's iTunes.
Is there a better way? I am wondering if this method will cause problems.
After I have transferred the library, I will deactivate my Windows XP pc in iTunes.

OS X :: How Can I Improve System Performance Without A Fresh Install
Sep 28, 2009My system (sig) has been relatively sluggish for a few months now. Right now I've only got Firefox, Snak, iTunes and Adium open and it's just prodding. It has a decent amount of ram that should be able to handle relatively easy computing like this.
So, my question is, what can I do? Should I just re-install? I wouldn't really mind doing that. I have all day off, and fresh installs are fun but I have a good amount of stuff on here. I have an external where all of my important stuff is, so a fresh install wouldn't be a bad idea in that way.
This machine is pretty old but I'd like it to be snappy like it once was.
Are there little things I can switch off or something?

Apr 28, 2010I just got my new MBP finally! I'm just in the process of calibrating the battery (first initial charge). When its charged and I can turn it on, would you recommend reformatting the drive and freshly installing OSX? Jun 28, 2012I wasn't able to move the data from my old MacBook to my new MacBook running Lion, because I was using FileVault on the old system, and the Migration Assistant doesn't support home directories with FileVault enabled.
I've managed to migrate everything without issue -- Music, Photos, Movies -- all worked great. However, when I try to start Mail under Lion, I get prompted to reconfigure Mail. I've copied the ~/Library/Mail folder and the Preferences file (com.apple.mail.plist) to the new laptop (via SFTP) but Mail won't pick up from where it left off.

OS X :: System Library Restoration - Keychain Passwords
Nov 12, 2008I recently had to restore my 1st gen MBP. I recovered essentially all of its files: Users, Library, and Applications, because I wanted to be able to restore things just as they were, without having to re-install 20 apps and change the settings again on 50. I followed Apple's instructions on how to restore "Users", but that's all that they instruct for. I know that restoring my system library is what led to the following problems, but I have virtually no Terminal knowledge and would like to know if there are things I can do to fix these issues: I very often get asked for the system keychain password. I know exactly what it is, but it denies me every time. Once that window goes away (even with 'cancel') most things seem to run fine. But I often have to enter other passwords later.
--My wireless networks are not automatically accessed (I think this is related to the previous issue) until I choose one of them. At least it doesn't ask me for the network passwords every time.
--Sometimes if I right-click on an image to open it in Preview it gives me two preview programs to choose from, but only the older one opens. I only have one 'Preview' in Applications.
OS X :: Looking For Program That Can Search With In System And Library Folders.??
Sep 4, 2009I installed a scanner driver (Musteck A3 600 USb scanner) and found it so dame useless and frustrating that I went out and bought an epson 10000XL scanner (even sharper than my V700). which has a very good driver (I use silverfast for my Epson V700)
but this dam musteck driver still shows up in Photoshops Input list. (there was no uninstaller on the mustek disk. and it is one of the most useless things I have ever bought)
if i take the Twain plug in out of the Photoshop plugin inputs folder, the the Epson Scan is no longer on the input list..
I have tried looking for where this bloody scanner driver is to remove it but cant find it.
is there any search program that will actually look inside the system and library folders to find files.
OS X :: Read Only Permissions On System And Library Folders
Sep 16, 2009I'm running 10.5.8 of OSX and have some strange permissions problems. These have been around for a while and whilst they aren't so bad that I can't live with them, they're really annoying and I want to install Snow Leopard but would like to fix this first. When I go to a lot of the folders in the upper hierarchy of the OSX install (the likes of System and Library), I can't modify the contents of any of these folders even as admin.
I have checked the Get Info and seen that it says that "You can only read" under Sharing and Permissions. Surely as admin I should be able to have read and write. I have attached a pic of a screenshot of the Get Info for my System folder. How am I now not a member of the "System" group (I am sure that I haven't had these issues the whole time I have had Leopard...only in the last 6 months) and what is the "Wheel" group?

ITunes For Mac :: Imported Old Library To New System And Have Two Icons
Jul 1, 2014have a new Mac and imported the iTuns library by replacing the iTunes library icon on my new Mac in Music and i now have the imported iTunes master library and an empty iTunes icon. I delete it but it comes back. Is there a way that it should be imported differently? Want to get rid of the duplicate icon but comes back.
