I've deleted 6 backups already and am left with three but the size of the file hasn't changed at all. I don't want to delete the whole thing and start over.
The file size now is 330gb which is ridiculous to me that it hasn't changed one bit since i deleted 6 backups.

I was wondering if there are any ways to lower system temperature on MBP? My machine would get hot (particular the left side) even though I am just doing simple tasks like surfing and word processing.

I have an Mid-2009 13 Inch Macbook pro. I decided to upgrade my memory to 4 gigs using thirdparty memory. However, I have noticed that the amount of Wired memory usage has gone up a quite bit. My Wired memory usuage usually goes as much as 900 mbs and this is outrageous because I don't particularly open any major applications. My Kernel Task right now sits at 397 MBs, which is huge as well.
I find that with one firefox or chrome browser open, I can easily use over 90% of my 4 gig ram and that's when watching you tube becomes very difficult 9freezes a lot.I understand that I never had this problem with Windows, or even when I run bootcamp.Â
Here is a print out of my processes:Â
Active Memory: 1.91 GB
Free Memory: 1.02 GB
Wired Memory: 853.4 MB
Used Memory: 2.98 GB

I am having trouble getting a mail pdf attachment to be accepted by my server. I am looking for a way to reduce the digital size of the pdf (report) so that it will be a size acceptable to my server (tds). How can that be done? What steps should I take?

I just replaced by old wireless router with a Time Capsule. I have everything set up and running correctly, but now I am unable to connect to my work's VPN. I can connect to my WIFI on my laptop, just not to the VPN. I talked to my work's tech support and they told me I need to open specific ports, but I can't figure out how to do this. Can somebody give me a walkthrough of how to open my Time Capsule ports?

Been having this clicking sound on my 13"MBP lately. I was told it might be the motion sensor being too sensitive. Anybody know how to reduce this sensitivity?

I scanned some documents with my printer/scanner and don't want to have to rescan every time. I made them too big, they are 20+ megs, and I know with JPEGs one can just "flatten" the file. Can that be done with scanned docs too? If so, how? Do I need a special app for that? I have Preview and iPhoto, plus the MS Office package for the Mac.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my old hard drive today, and transferred over all data/settings etc using time machine. Everything went well until I tried to open mail. It instructed me to import my emails, and after click "done". Fine. Now I can't open mail. Restarted. Tried to open mail, and again, it instructed me to do the same thing? View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using iStat and it says that my CPU runs at temps around high 70s, low 80 degrees Celsius for about 10-15 minutes at a time (also says the same for Airport card). It usually takes a while for it to cool down. I always place my laptop on flat surfaces. It does this even during light internet surfing minus flash or any other multimedia...now WITH multimedia use, it reaches the 80s no problem and I just quit the process cuz I don't want my laptop to explode one day.
I just wanted to know if this was average and what temps everyone else is usually running at?
I'm afraid that if it runs at these high of temps for a long time each time like that, then it may do some damage somewhere...
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. (I feel like I know a decent amount about my MBP and about a/v matters, so, I feel a bit dumb for not knowing the answer to this.)
I have an external monitor (Samsung 2223w) monitor connected to my MBP via DVI. The MBP is shut.
Is there a way that I can reduce the brightness of the external monitor quickly with software? Of course, I can manually reduce brightness by clicking the buttons on the side of the monitor and navigating through the menus. But is there a way that I can set a keystroke to do the same?
I'm using an early 2008 MBP (4,1) running the original 5400rpm 200gb HDD but upgrading to 500gb this week.
I'm looking at WD Scorpio 5400rpm but wondering if 7200rpm reduces the battery life relevantly.
Also, I'm running 2gb of memory but I'm debating if 4gb would be dramatically faster.
Or do you think I would be better off buying a new mbp?

I just replaced my damage HD (original HD) to my MBP 2009 unibody. So far, I like the SSD drive, and I use it for my internal storage. I've been read a fews article online, but it seems I don't find the answer. My concern is, How do I reduce TBW on SSD? if I play video (like youtube, Netflix, or Hulu) or play online games, would it be increase my TBW? So far, I set up my download file to my external HD. Whenever I download file, application, or etc, it would go to my external HD. Second question, What can I do to lower the use of SSD? Therefore, my SSD will last long like 3-5Â years perhaps. Third question, since Samsung Magician Software can't run on MBP. How do I check my TBW and the health of my SSD? Â

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've got a lion 10.7.3 server and several Lion client boxes all attached via ethernet to an airport extreme.Â
I've got a bona fide certificate that seems to have installed correctly, and the client is talking to the open directory serverÂ
Without fail, I get a message "unable to log in the user at this time" on each of the clients...Â
UNLESS I open up all ports on my airport extreme to the server. Â
I've tried opening individual ports for AFP, profile manager (1640, 2195), open ldap (389, 636) and even kerberos (88). Even with all of these open, it still doesn't work. I have to open up everything to get the error to go away - then the users can log in just fine.Â
Note, I'm logging in from the local network to a server on the local network, so this just seems bizarre. Â
I don't have the logs on this computer, but I recall that the error was occurring when it tried to mount the home directory, after authentication. It was an error 64 from homedirmounter (if memory serves).Â
