May 31, 2009I can't open iTunes unless I turn airport off.

View 4 RepliesThis morning, Software Update came up and said there was an update for my 2008 MBP, this time something with the CPU or something. Upon restarting, gray screen, fan at high speed, do not interrupt it while doing so etc. This update apparently for older (2008) Macs to be able to use a new type of charger that has come out. Nothing I heard off before? When I did the update, it did come up with that gray screen as advertised, and the progress bar ran for just about one second, then it booted again.
Everything went normal, but upon start I noticed the Airport had wireless turned off. In fact, it says: "Airport: Off". I clicked On, but nothing happened. After reboot, I cannot manage to turn it on, not from the System Preferences screen either. I have now plugged in a network cable straight from the router, since the WiFi does not work, and with the cable attached, no problem. But I want my wireless internet/network back!
Does anyone know if you can turn of the wifi radio on the airport base station and still have it operate as an ethernet switch if you so desire? Maybe through the airport utility?

View 3 Replies View RelatedQuick question- will this model of iBook G3 work with an AirPort Extreme card, or do i have to get the original AirPort card?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe Airport Card in my 2008 MBP 17" seems to work intermittently, sometimes when waking from sleep or restarting it shows up as "Airport Card not installed". Other times it will switch on fine. I phoned AppleCare (I have 3yr) and they made me reset the PRAM & SMC, which initially worked, but now it back to it's old tricks of not working. Not sure what to do, don't really want to send my MBP off for a week.

I have a normal Asus wireless route in my living room. My iMac is in my bed room and can only be LANed via wired connection. My home Hi Fi audio system is in my living room but there cannot be LAN cable between my router and Hi Fi audio system.
If the Airport is connected to my Hi Fi audio system, can I still also stream my iMac Itune libarary? Or Airport must stream a Wi-Fi connected computer?
This is an odd one, My imac can't seem to recognize my airport card. The airport utility can't recognize any device. The network diagnostics recognize the internet with the green lights but the airport lights are red... My browsers are connecting to the internet and I am receiving email. The airport icon in the menu is blank and when I open the menu it says "Airport:Not configured"
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an airport express for itunes music and a print server. I have it setup as a client and once in a while i have audio drop out and itunes stops responding. I never have this problem when only playing through the laptop speakers.
the setup is a belking wireless router, nas hardwired to the belkin, ae client and wireless laptop all wireless g.
i thought about using the ae as an extender hoping this proble would go away but do I have to tell the laptop which router it would be hooked to if the se is an extender?
I have a linksys wirless router in room A next to my cable modem I have a stero system in room B connected to my tv
I would like to play iTunes music on the stero system in room B.
Do I have to buy two AirPort Express routers? One connected to the internet in room A and one connected to my stero in room B?
I've got an Airport Express that, when connected to the existing wireless network, continues to blink an amber light (No IP address, right?).
I've had the Airport Express create its own network, and I can stream music through to it just fine. When I have it join the network my laptop uses, the light just keeps blinking yellow, and I have to hard reset it to be able to get to its configuration again. iTunes never sees it.
I bought a new iMac and it connected to AirPort Base Station, internet works fine on it. However, when I connect my MacBook to the wireless network, it doesn't let me go on the internet. I checked the status of the router through AirPort Utility. (Status: Conflicting DHCP Range) I don't know how to fix this.

So yesterday, after a good experience with iCloud backup and sync I decided to delete all my apps from iTunes library. I saved nearly 50GB (!). I decided to not sync apps from my iPad and iPhone to iTunes, so I unmarked that option on every device when connected to itunes. I only want to keep syncing TV Shows, Movies, Books and Photos from Aperture library. The problem is that every time I sync my device with iTunes, iTunes starts downloading apps from my iDevices (but not all of them). I've also turned off automatic downloading in iTunes/Preferences/Store, tried to sync via cable, wifi.

On iTunes, some of my podcasts are deleted after I listen to them, even though I have the settings set to avoid that? (Or rather, I did have it set to avoid that when my podcasts were set to subscribe. Now iTunes won't even let me subscribe to them, so I can't access the settings?)

One day I was using my MBP open and external monitor hooked up. Everything was fine until the internet went down suddenly while I was using iChat.
My airport wouldn't see a network and after a couple restarts and a few resets my airport finally connected to my network. Once connected it would only issue a self-assigned IP, which obviously wouldn't work.
I was able to get around this by manually entering in the correct info but the speeds were low at best, usually pausing and stalling every minute.
After frustratingly trying get it to work, I entered clamshell mode because there was no reason at the time to have dual monitors. Once I did, viola, the airport kicked in and started working full force. It's been this way for about a month now.
My laptop is a MacBookPro5,1 with a 2.8 GHz processor and 4 GBs of RAM.
I've read that airports will have serious degradation issues if overheated and while that may be the issue, it doesn't seem to be the case.
I have smcFanControl installed and the MBP seems to be relatively cool to the touch. The fans never seem to be loudly kicking in and I have it raised on a fan powered cooling pad.
I do, though, use pretty much every port on my MBP. External monitor, speakers, both USBs, and firewire 800 are all in use, so maybe this is a resource issue or a very area specific heat issue.
I just installed a Seagate 500gb, 7200rpm hard drive in my 13" MBP that was updated to EFI Firmware Update 1.7. Clean install of OS X and iLife '09 & iWork '09 went fast. It's quite and fast compared to my old Samsung 500gb, 5400rpm hard drive. It was worth the $120 I spent on it!
View 12 Replies View RelatedWhenever I am trying to sign in Mac App Store, a message saying "connection failed" will show up. I have no problem signing in itunes with my Apple ID, so I know my details are correct. Internet connection works just fine over ethernet, with firewall turned off and there's no other third party app (little snitch) or antivirus program which may restrict the network access from Mac App Store. I restored the OS from internet few days back because of a kernel error. Now I need to sign in Mac App Store to download my iLife applications.

Like two months ago, my MBP started to work really slow when not plugged to electricity, but as soon as I plug it in, my MBP works perfectly. I already sent it to apple for they to fix it, but they solved other issued except for that one. Please, any idea what could it be.

I've been trying to set-up two computers in my household to share their itunes libraries with each other and I'm getting nowhere I've got both libraries shared, both ITunes related ports open, and no passwords on either side. Both are on the same network. So I started to wonder if it was maybe something to do with my Dlink DIR625 wireless router? I could see similar fixes for those that had linksys routers (something about a filter and checking it to 'deny') but I haven't been able to see some sort of similar fix for this issue - and I can't believe it is all that difficult to solve.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I create a smart playlist in itunes and deselect live updating then how exactly does the smart playlist load up?
The reason I ask is that started setting up Smart Playlists for all of the artists on my computer and they're all set to live update which is consequently slowing down my itunes. I realize that I may not necessarily need that. My question is though...how exactly would I go about manually updating a smart playlist that has live updating turned off?

I love AirPlay. I use it on my iPod Touch the moment I get home to play music to my speakers connected via AirPort Express. I use it on my iPad too when i'm watching a movie..
Even on my MBP when listening to music from iTunes. But Movies in iTunes don't work. The AirPlay icon in a movie playing in iTunes only shows "computer" and doesn't show any other options.
On 6 th April my BT homehub2 updated it's firmware and that's when the problems started. Broadband went down completely and powerlineadapters adapters for bt vision fried. After 2 telephone support calls we eventually got the home hub reset and connected to broadband. Bt supplied two new powerlineadapters and bt vision is now working. Laptop, iPhones and iPad (and bt vision) all connect fine and work completely well.Â
My iMac running OS X 10.7.3, appears to work in that it connects no problem to home hub and when you run diagnostics it says your Internet connection appears to be working normally... However I cannot get a web page to load - I have tried chrome, Firefox and safari. The bizarre thing is using Outlook I can send and receive email, also my apple devices are still syncing via the iCloud - that would suggest that the iMac is indeed connecting wirelessly to the router and sending and receiving data - just no web pages at all - also it can't connect to things like iTunes store or apples app store... Everything was working fine until the firmware update! Â
Also may/may not be related but when I log in now I always have to manually connect to router, it always connects fine but it used to do it automatically, also recently upgraded to Lion and I have my doubts there too?Â

This has me totally flummoxed. I have: a MacBook 13" purchased last December. I'm running: 10.6.1 and iTunes 9. This evening I was ripping some classical CDs (iTunes is not 'classical friendly', no news there) and was able to join CD tracks several times. But after ripping one CD, I realized I had forgotten to join the CD tracks. After deleting the music, I tried again, but no go. The computer remembers past settings (this has always been the case), so that CD was useless. But all of a sudden, whatever new CD I put into my computer, the 'join tracks' feature was always dimmed.
I have restarted the computer and even taken it offline, but no go. I got my old 12" PowerBook out and the 'join tracks' worked fine. So what is going on with my new MacBook? Any ideas? Please don't tell me to check permissions, that has never solved anything in all the years I've been using Macs.
