The home share is still on I want it turned off help

iMac and PC in home, both on the same network, will not "home share."
Both computers are authorized.
Both are logged into iTunes using the same login account.
Both have preferences set to share and detect libraries.
Yet neither computer shows ANY recognition of a shared library from the other. Apparently, this is not a rare problem, but I haven't found any solutions for it.
I am not sure if I understand home share correct but I will tell you my problem. I have a iMac with two log ons, me And my wife.Â
I have my iTunes library on home share. When I am logged in, everything shares fine. My iPad, wife's iPhone, my iPhone and apple tv.Â
But when I log off? The library is not visible? Do I need to be permanently logged on for home share to share my library?Â
Also what is the best way for me and my wife to share a music library? Do we synch to a shared folder?Â

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to setup a public share to my public folder to window's xp users. When I do this, it seems to share the public folder AND the entire home directory for read/write. It doesn't seem to matter that I haven't shared that folder. This seems like a HUGE security hole to me. What am I doing wrong?

ANy suggestions for the best way to share Dcouments (Word, PDF and XL) on a home network with Macs. We have iCloud but do not want to put some of our docs on there for concern over security (any informed pushback on that welcome by the way). We also use an iPad and iPhone so if possible good to be able t acces through those platform while relising that Office docs will need to be converted with limitations.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo yesterday, after a good experience with iCloud backup and sync I decided to delete all my apps from iTunes library. I saved nearly 50GB (!). I decided to not sync apps from my iPad and iPhone to iTunes, so I unmarked that option on every device when connected to itunes. I only want to keep syncing TV Shows, Movies, Books and Photos from Aperture library. The problem is that every time I sync my device with iTunes, iTunes starts downloading apps from my iDevices (but not all of them). I've also turned off automatic downloading in iTunes/Preferences/Store, tried to sync via cable, wifi.

On iTunes, some of my podcasts are deleted after I listen to them, even though I have the settings set to avoid that? (Or rather, I did have it set to avoid that when my podcasts were set to subscribe. Now iTunes won't even let me subscribe to them, so I can't access the settings?)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI understand that if my wife and I share my iTunes account that she can access my purchases including the iBooks I have purchased. However, I do not understand how to set up my iTunes account so that she can 'share' it and still keep her own iTunes account for her own purchases.

I need to share my iTunes library (or a music library set up in some other way) with up to 9 clients on a local network. Does anyone know of client/server software that will let me do that? I'm pretty techy, and can work at the terminal level, etc., so it doesn't have to be an off-the-shelf solution.
I thought I'd heard of people doing this, and done a fair amount of searching, but haven't been able to find anything suitable.
Constraints:
All computers are running 10.4.11.
Right now, we don't have internet access, and may not have it any time soon (I know, I know, it's the dark ages, but I'm having to deal with bureaucracy and privacy issues). So, something like SimplifyMedia probably won't work - it seems to be dependent on internet access.
We add music fairly often, and the person who adds music is not techy, so adding tunes/updating what the clients see is either automatic, or at least easy. And, changes need to be seen by the clients immediately, or at least quickly.
I can potentially set up a file share, though this isn't ideal. Has anyone shared an iTunes library this way?
I have an iPad that is synced to my home computer (iMac). I am currently in my second home and wish to move some files back and forth between my second iMac and iPad. I do NOT wish to sync them as this erases all the work I have done on files at my first home. The app I am mostly concerned with is called Songbook. My second iMac does not allow file sharing and I'm guessing because it needs to sync first. Not gonna happen. So am I out of luck or is there some way to move files back and forth? I really would like to do this as the edit function on the iMac is much better than using the Songbook app and keyboard.

Since I've upgraded to Mavericks and iTunes 11.2.1, I have been unable to share my library on my admin machine with any of the other iMacs in my class. I used to do this via sharing and my library would show up as being shared in the available column in the classroom machines.Â
Now it doesn't show on any of the remote machines at all, despite them all having sharing on. I have tried to do this via Home Sharing but the client machines will not allow home sharing (error-3170).
I have been trying to set up ITunes to share the library with another user on the same IMac. I have followed the details shown on Apple website but nothing is happening. Does any one have any ideas. I have copied the ITunes media file the public folder changed this in ITunes with preferences and advanced then done the same with the other user but it does not work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two Macs, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini.I have all my music on MacBook Pro. I want to be able to access iTunes from Mac Mini. But I don't like Home Sharing, because it doesn't really sync my music, and that route keeps two separate libraries.
When I'm home, both Macs are connected to the same network. I want my Mac Mini to access MacBook Pro's iTunes Library, update new music from Mac Mini which gets reflected on MacBook Pro. So that if I consolidate the file from Mac Mini, it gets put into the hard drive of MacBook Pro.
I understand what I'm trying to do, doesn't actually put physical files on Mac Mini. If MacBook Pro is not in the network or is turned off, that I wouldn't be able to access MacBook Pro's iTunes Library.
I don't want to use any third party applications to "sync" my music. I want to be able to do it by using File Sharing and such.
