OS X :: IPhotos Used To Come Up As A Screen With All The Thumbnails?
Jun 15, 2009
My young son got hold of my Mac and changed all kinds of settings randomly.
iPhotos used to come up as a screen with all the thumbnails. Now it opens into a screen with just one photo. The show thumbnail in the toolbar is greyed out.
I recently got a new computer for college. It is a a v.10.7.4, 15 inch, 2.4 GHz processor MacBook Pro, and has gotten all the most recent Software Updates. However, following my iPhoto 9.3 update, I noticed an issue. In Launchpad iPhoto appears twice, even though it is only one application.
iPhoto can be seen to the far-right in the second line and at the right of the bottom line. When I try clicking on them both it just leads me back to the same window. iPhoto only appears once in the Applications folder. getting the second photo to disappear?

I want to take a copy of all my images in iPhoto from my Macbook pro 10.6.8 and then view them on my macbook air (Mavericks). I bought a Toshiba Canvio Connect 1 TB portable hard drive. Can I copy across the images without using any software?
Help! I want to use iphotos to make a video trailer in imovie...when i click the camera icon, it will not let me. They are not lit up/highlighted when i am in my project. anyone know why?
I found that every time when I want to update the iphotos and imovies and the native apps in the mac book it is needed to use the first apple id that used for the first time you turn on the mac book.Since that id is not used now and i want to change it, any body knows how to change it? And although my current admin id has changed, but still when updating iphotos the very first id is needed.

I have a Macbook with OSX v10.5.8 and I used to be able to easily attach photos from my iPhoto library to an email and send it but I have not done it in awhile and when I recently tried it my email message displays 'missing plugin'.
I am using Mac OPS 10.9.4 and iPhoto 9.5.1 systems I have just tried to print photos using an H-P Photosmart 7510 printer and am not getting results because I get a message that the paper size is not correct or the print comes from the regular 8 1/2 by 11 tray and not the photo tray which I have told it to do. I also have an H-P Photosmart 335 printer that I have not been able to use because I get message saying the paper is not the correct size. In the past I was able to adjust easily the paper sizes and get good prints. Now, I am not getting any prints because of error messages. It seems to me that updates installed to my computer change the way I am use to doing therefore causing me to learn new ways of operating the jobs I want to do. It is a waste of my time learning the "improvements" the updates keep installing and not improving the way I have been use to doing various tasks.
I do not print many photos so there is some time between the task and Apple has "improved" the system and I have to go back to square one to learn the new way or install another app.

I have the latest iMac - OS X Mavericks. I recently shifted from Windows to iMac. I am a photographer and have thousands of pictures in my external hard-drive (Western Digital) that I have backed up by folder name (YYYY-MM-DD) using windows. But, now I have started using my iMac and planning to backup my new pictures stored in iPhoto library. I am not sure how can get the original pictures by year, month and day from iPhotos and copy them in external drive using the same folder structure - YYYY-MM-DD.
Not sure how to do this simpler. At this time I tried to go to iPhoto, then do Reveal in finder, go to that folder, select all my files, copy them, go to external harddrive, create a folder - YYYY-MM-DD and copy them. I can do this for each hundreds of folder sitting in my iPhoto.
I've set up my new MacBook pro in my married name. I now want to transfer iPhotos and iTunes from my old MacBook (in my maiden name). It wants to create two user accounts. How do I just transfer iPhotos and iTunes?
First I was lucky that I didn't trust this "time machine", I could've just formatted the drive after I did the time machine back up and end up wiping my entire itunes library, Here is what happend, I only had two instances of time machine back up, both to the same external HD which has more than plenty of space. The first TM backup was immediately after a fresh install of snow leopard, online updates, and some important apps. iTunes and iPhotos library was empty at that moment. I thought I'd just restore this backup when I need a fresh install later. Then today I decided to wipe out everything on my MBP and have a fresh install, so I did the second TM backup in an expectation that it would back up everything new since the last backup, including my itunes and iphotos library. It turned out that TM (treacherously) didn't do that and tell me backup was done (AKA the infamous FALSE TRUE, the worst scenario of logics). When I checked the backup directory on the external HD, and the itunes directory reported a miserable size of 123kb, which was supposed to be around 20gb. same goes for the iPhotos library, there was no backup. Abandoning this fashion machine, I manually copied the libraries, taking some time but at least I know what I'm doing. Anyway, back to top, Is is a known issue or is TM designed in this way?
Last year I bought a MacPro Desktop, and just recently got iLife '09. I'd move all the photo's onto my external LaCie Hard Drive. and I'd like to move them back again, i.e direct iPhoto's to these photo's that are on my external Hard Drive. I've made an extensive search before coming on hear to ask, but I can only seem to find "How to send photo's from iPhotos onto an external Hard Drive, but I want to "send them back from the external Hard Drive" but keep them on the external Hard Drive so I son't use up internal Hard Drive space. I thought there might be an easy way to do this? Can somebody tell me how to do this, or point me in the right direction?
I read this thread with much interest. [URL:..] While I don't need quite the storage space that guy needed, I am trying to figure out the best solution for me. New to the mac world, I have new 2.8 gHz 24" iMac (pre 9400m). I want to be able to share (read and write) all of my itunes and iphoto files with all users on the machine, and it seems as if using an external drive requires the least amount of trouble to set up to do this. I think I have 2 routes to go. I could get a raid 1 array like the WD Mybook studio II and forgo backups, using this as my raid protected file storage drive, though that post has me concerned about FW disconnection and Raid, which I don't quite understand. Since I don't need much space, I noticed Newegg has the WD studio 320gig w/ FW800 for $80 each. I figure one for media, one for time machine, and I am done, no messing with raid. I also have a fairly new 320 gig drive in a windows/linux machine I could buy a USB enclosure for and use with time machine, since buying a FW enclosure is equal in price to the WD studio 320g drive. I have been seeing issues with sleep modes on drives connected via firewire (WD especially), and have now researched my way into absolute confusion.
I am running Tiger and I dont know if I am being thick but my images thumbnail in Finder just show a white square with the file type, Tiff, Jpeg, Raw unless I have saved them in Photoshop, then they are actual thumbnails of my images. Is it possible for them all to show as proper thumbnails as soon as I import them from my CF cards?
I was just wondering, when im browsing threw images, is there a way for them to show up in little thumbnails like windows does? I know, use iphoto, which i normally do, but i was just wondering.
I have my iTunes music etc. stored on my MBP, but movies are on an external HDD connected via Airport disk. When importing movies, I untick "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library" and drag and drop them in - that way the location points to my external drive. However, I imported a number of movies yesterday (in the same way I always have done) and whenever I open iTunes, the artwork of the newest movies is missing and an exclamation mark is next to them. But when I click on it, the exclamation mark goes, the artwork reappears and the movie plays. Quit and reopen iTunes and it's vanished again.
I recently bought a Canon s100 camera. When I shoot in RAW mode I cannot see the thumbnails in my finder. Just blank icons. I try to update but with no luck. I use Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I've been having issues with Facebook on my safari browser. The thumbnail pictures and profile picture will randomly not load. Hitting refresh may or may not fix the problem sometimes. I'm not too sure what causes this, I've done lots of searches and I haven't found anything similar to this. I'm running Safari 5.0.3 with adblocker as my only extension (I've disabled it and the problem still occurs).
One of the things that irks me about Mac OS X is how, if you have a folder of images that you do not wish to be included in your iPhoto library, you have to manually change the icon size so as to gain bigger icon previews. On Windows XP, if a folder contains lots or mostly photos, Windows will recognise this and the folder view will change automatically to Thumbnail view, negating any need to manually manage icon size. Does Leopard offer this behavior at all?
I recently installed Aperture 2.1 and love it until....
A large collection of pictures (jpgs) was imported and after 2 days a lot of thumbnails are missing in the library. The images are still there, I can click on the gray spot the image supposed to be and view the preview and master.
It very annoying! I am planning to import about 10.000 images soon and this problem must be solved before.
thumbnails for images on my desktop arent showing it works fine though if its on a stacks folder on the dock if its on the desktop or on the dock as an alias it only shows as a preview file and has the png/jpeg/bmp badge
