I thought to select multiple files at one time, i did Shift + click 1st and last file but that doesn't work anymore. How can I select multiple files at once?
Is there a Quick Guide to using the MacBook out there anywhere?

How to select multiple files using the keyboard (fast and easy like on windows) without "unselecting" the other ones? Â
I'll try to be clearer:
Lets say i have 100 files on a folder. I want to select from the 3rd file until the 21st file. Then, i want to select the 34th file and onwards, leaving this "gap" in between (i do not want to select the 22nd file until the 33rd).Â
I want to select pictures 1-15 to put in a different folder. I'd click pic1, hold shift, then click on pic15. That selects all the files in between as well. How do I go about doing this same thing in OS X? I've tried just about every combination of the shift, control, option, and apple key with clicking but nothing works.
View 24 Replies View RelatedIn windows I can use the control key+select and shift+select to select items say, 5-15 or select multiple individual files. In OS X shift+select and cmd+select do the same thing. They let me choose multiple individual files but I can't figure out how to choose a series of files like choosing 5-15. I realize I can drag my mouse over it and click a few files I don't want with shift+select but it's just annoying me that I can't find the command for what I want to do. From the search I did I got the impression that shift+select and cmd+select are supposed to do different things but for me the don't. Did I miss something?

For some reason in the default view (icon) in Finder I can't select multiple files when I click one, hold down the shift key and click a file farther down in the list. In Windows this would select all the files between the first and the second including both. In OSX 10.7.3 it only selects the first file and the second file as if I held down the Command key.
One of my friends who uses 10.6.x says it works as expected on his machine --- any idea what my issue might be? It's not because of the recent update since it did the same thing in 10.7.2 (not sure if it did it on the default 10.7.0 install my iMac came with as I updated before I used it for the first time).

Before I formatted and reinstalled Lion on my MBP, I could select a window by tapping on its top bar and drag it using single finger on my trackpad. After reinstalling it, I am unable to do so. I have investigated the trackpad features in System Preferences, but it shows only the three-finger drag option. How do I get to select + drag a windown using single tap.

On my new 17" Powerbook, I can't drag and drop anything. I can only select/deselect and cut/paste, but no drag. This is consistent throughout all my apps. I can manage getting around the finder with cut/paste, but I can't do any graphic work if I can't drag anything (you can imagine).
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere are many things about Lion that irk the crap outta me, but this one is near the top. In ALL previous versions of Finder, one could, in list view, select a bunch of files by dragging over them, then, holding the command key down, add more non-contiguous files to the selection, again by dragging. If you try that in Lion, it starts dragging the whole lot of what you just selected to, usually, the root folder of the window you have open.Â
It appears that the only way to add extra non-contiguous files to a selection is to individually click each one of them.
My new MBP won't let me select multiples items when I click the first icon, hold shift, and click the first one. I'm burning photos on dvds so not being able to do this is EXTREMELY frustrating.

If I want to forward multiple messages from one email account to another in Apple Mail (an old account to a new one), how can I select multiple messages at once, yet send them separately? (As opposed to the default where it forwards it all as one giant message.)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can use command A to select all, and I can select multiple items with command and individually clicking each one, but not using Shift and clicking on the first and last items.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to select a consecutive list of items (photo's) in 'view as icons' but I don't seem to be able to do that. It is possible in 'view as list/coloms' by selecting the first picture, press shift key, select last picture. But when I try to do this in 'view as icons' I can only select the first and the last picture. All the pictures in between are not selected. Am I doing something wrong? It is possible in windows iview icons by using the ctrl and shift keys, so I was wondering if it's also possible in mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot select more than one photo because only one (very large) photo appears in the window where I normally select them. The slide bar (bottom right) is not the problem as it is set on the smallest photo size setting.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIÂ just updated to Lion 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.6.1 and imported my Leopard iTunes Library. I can Get Info on individual tracks but when I shift select or command select multiple tracks the iTunes window turns gray and nothing can be selected. iTunes just freezes until I press the Escape key. So far, everything else works as expected - the only problem is selecting multiple tracks (which worked fine for me on previous OS and iTunes versions).Â

I need to combine word docs, .jpgs, .PDFs, .pptx files from multiple sources into a single PDF. In the past I've used software such as Nuance but I'm wondering if there's something in the MacBook Pro OS or applications that support this function.Â

Command 'a' doesn't help either because it selects all the songs in the library, where as I only wanted to select certain ones.
I want to be able to select multiple links in my bookmarks sidebar so I can organize certain bookmarks into a folder.
In windows I could just use the shift or ctrl keys to select multiple items. How does this feature work on a Mac?
UPDATE: How do you select multiple items in general?
I was able to organize my bookmarks through the "organize bookmarks" feature.
In Snow Leopards Address Book, I was able to select an Address Book Group and then shift-click to select a range of groups. How do you do this in Lion?

I have set up an automator service that TAR's a folder into an archive for me and it works quite nicely. Idealy however, I would like to be able to highlight several folders, right click and have automator tar each folder into it's own TAR archive, but do it one by one. Â
[Code]...
I'm not 100% sure so I guess it would be a good time to verify, is there a problem with having the system try to TAR multiple folders at one time? If it is not a problem then I guess this discussion itself is pointless and I can simple right click on each folder and select "TAR Folder" and just wait until they're all finished. I would think that it would be ideal for the system to do each one individually and not try to do them all at one time.Â
