OS X :: Free Applications That Will Burn Exact Copies Of DVD's?
Nov 18, 2008
Is there a (preferably free) application that will burn exact copies of DVD's. I know theres the Mactheripper which excracts the dvd but you have to convert it and use a bunch of other applications to get in onto a DVD. Is there a free DVD coping program out there for a mac?
an exact copy of OS X disk which come with my new Mac book pro -just in case the original disk gets damaged (I already had such unpleasant experience with previous Mac). what are the precise steps to do this burning of an exact copy of CD and can it be done with software already installed in my Mac laptop. The laptop is bought 4 months ago with OS X 10.6, no additional (3rd party) disk burning software is installed.
I'm just downloading Toy Story 1 & 2 from iTunes, because my girlfriend hasn't seen it and I wanted to show her before we see Toy Story 3 this summer.
Anyway, I want to take it over to hers to play, but she doesn't have a TV with any kind of input that could run from my MacBook. In other words, I can only take it round if it's on DVD.
Is there a free way to burn this movie onto a DVD?
I'm trying to burn some DVDs. I first burned in Finder and found out the hard way that that makes terrible quality data disc DVDs. Then I tried on iDVD, and at first it said it would only take 3 hours to burn a 1 1/2 hour movie on Professional Quality, so I was happy. But as it was encoding, it jumped to 16+ hours! So I tried again with only high quality, and it still said 8 hours, and now after 10 hours is still encoding. So, I need something else that's faster. I also need something relatively easy to learn/use. It may sound like I know what I'm talking about kind of, but I really don't and I just barely figured iDVD out. I still want it to convert into DVD quality discs (and good quality - I just got a new HDTV and would even like to try burning HD or Blu-ray discs). And I need it to be free.
So, my needs are:
#1 - FAST #2 - FREE #3 - GOOD QUALITY CONVERSIONS #4 - EASY TO LEARN/USE
handbrake rips them into great mkv files and that's cool i need that sometimes but as of now i just want the exact same files.. that way i can choose subtitles and chapter and have a menu. What would the settings be in order for me to get the exact thing without the protection? If this is not possible, what program would you suggest? I've read that mactheripper makes bad decryptions, i don't know if it's true but i don't want to spend hours and a few dvds to finding out..
I've been using Handbrake to rip some of my dvds onto my harddrives for trips, but I want to make some copies so I don't have to bring originals. Is there any way to make an exact copy of the dvd on my macbook (obviously only one disc drive) through Handbrake or antother program?
I've never even turned on the genius feature in iTunes, because I was put off by the link to the store. I have no intention whatsoever of buying anything from the iTunes store, though I do have an account cause I had to buy something else online. Here's my strong suspicion about Genius - that it's really there just to sell you crappy tracks from iTunes. And I have no use for that noise.
But, I like to keep an open mind. What if I'm wrong, and what if it's actually a cool feature? I remember not being sure about the shuffle function, since I like to listen to albums, so for the longest time I didn't use it. But one day I gave it a go, and what do you know. I liked it, for the most part! Here's one additional complication - I got like 50,000 songs in my library and I listen to all kinds of genres. Tell me about Genius - how do you use it?
It is supposed to be the best burning package on mac. But I doubt it. I convert videos to dvd-video format using the absolutely brilliant windows7 application convertxtodvd. Please dont tell me to use a mac application instead of it. I tried it many times, there were always several problems(slow speed, subs etc). This is not the case here.
So, I want these dvd-videos in Video_ts format, to be burned in dvd disks using toast. It is supposed that video_ts folder are a standard folder, no matter the system you use. But toast has a different opinion. When I drag the folder in the dvd-video window, it asks to re-encode the video!!!If I try to burn this video_ts folder in windows machine using 'nero', no problem at all, straight burning! I really cannot understand why this happens.
Another problem I have is that the files I want toast to burn, usually reside to network computer. Is there any way to burn files from a network computer(win) using toast? Can toast access network or not? If not, I have to manually copy files to local disk, several minutes spent for copying gigabytes just to be able to burn them.
I want to set up a Automator workflow so that whenever I move Photo's to a certain folder, it will automatically copy those files to another folder, how can I do this ?
I have already created one, but after the first ' sync' it has failed and now does not work.
When importing photos into iPhoto, does iPhoto make an exact copy of the photo when importing it into the database? Or does it compress the file to a certain degree?
I am trying to back up some DVD is I OWN.I used MTR to get the Video_TS folder on my HD.I have been trying to get Burn to create a disk that will work on my stand alone DVD player (which supposedly supports DVD -/+R and RW well as DivX).WHICH TYPE OF DISK DO I TELL BURN TO CREATE? I've been trying to burn on to dual layer disk i.e 8.5 GB.Video_TS foldeer is 7 GBIf I chose the DATA TAB tell Burn to create a "DVD-video disk" I get a disk that my computer can play in the DVD App that functions like a DVD, BUT my stand alone DVD player won't recognise it. (tells me its a DATA disk).
Is it possible to have one computer with time machine, but doing two diferents copies of it in two different hard disks. But I want to do the same copy, in two hard disks. Can it be done.
I am new to Mac and was using AnyDVD and CloneDVD to back up my DVD library. They do not make software for the Mac so I was wondering if you guys could make recommendations for programs that will allow you to make backup copies of DVD's for home use.
EDIT: I did do a search but the most recent discussion about this is almost 4 months old so I just wanted to see if there was anything new.
Have a free to distribute educational DVD (preparation for a test) that I need to make a copy of for a friend. Downloaded MacTheRipper and copy the DVD. Next I downloaded a freeware program called Burn that looks simple and is all I need. However I when I try to burn I get an error "Failed: There was a problem authoring the DVD" Also I tried to use the burn to a data DVD mode and it wrote the data to the DVD (you can physically see it's there) but when it got to finalize I got the same error message and you can't read the DVD contents. I have a new Mac Pro running 10.5.3 and the DVD drive is OEM PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D.
I consolidated my iTunes library because some files were on an external and the rest on the computer and when I did this it made copys of most of the songs in my music folder. Also it didn't consolidate the whole library it still shows many songs on the external.
The actual iTunes library is right, just not all songs point to the computer hard drive.
I have about 100 gigs worth of duplicates that I have no idea how to delete besides doing them one by one. Any ideas on how to fix this?
This is how my iTunes folder looks for most albums.
So i have an ipod classic and quite a few songs on there. But i have a problem that occurs every time i sync, it will recopy and replace the same 109 songs every time i sync. They are not in any certain order, or playlist, they have not been recently added, or modified, or played, or had added artwork. Just every time i sync, even if i sync, unplug, then sync, they will copy all over again.
I noticed that iPhoto created hundreds of copies of my photos while looking for faces and they are stored in the iPhoto library. I don't like the faces feature because it doesn't really work and I would like to delete these extra files from the library to regain lost space. My question is, will iPhoto just keep trying to recreate face files every time I open the app or do I have to click on the faces tab to make it start trying to generate face image files? And is it a problem to just delete these face files? Does iPhoto make additional copies of these face files in other folders as well or would it all be contained inside the iPhoto library folder that is in my pictures folder?
I have gmail set up on my mac & iphone as IMAP. Works great, except for a weird deal whenever I send mail. After the email has been sent, if I go to trash, I'll find multiple copies of the sent email sitting there. I.E.- today I sent a single email(not a reply), and there were 16, yes 16 copies of that sent email in my trash. There was only one copy in the sent mail folder. It's a pain deleting all this stuff.
I've downloaded 3 digital copies so far and none of them are playing properly. Just a black video, no sound no nothing even in quicktime player but you can select chapters in itunes. Length and file size are what they should be. This is especially frustrating to me because I am using snow leopard and i have a new macbook pro 13inch so i don't see why they shouldn't be working. I have Perian installed if that makes a difference but I haven't uninstalled it yet just in case i don't have to.
I'm in the process of converting my DVDs to MPEG for my AppleTV, so I've ripped and converted with handbrake, now I have an MPEG file on my desktop, when I drag that into itunes, it says "copying file" when it is finished, is it safe to delete the MPEG file on my desktop? i. e. does itunes actually create a copy so I have two of the same file? So is it safe to erase the one on my desktop?
I saved an email in Drafts a few days ago, and just sent it out recently. However, there was a problem during the sending. Several copies of the same email were sent to the recipient. After restarting my computer and the application a message keeps popping up stating: Some actions taken while the account "my acct name" was offline could not be completed online. Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "On My Mac" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the actions while online.
Additional information: The connection to the server "imap.gmail.com" on port 993 timed out. or The IMAP command "APPEND" (to Drafts) failed with server error: Could not parse command. Along with this message the same email shows up in my Drafts folders. I've deleted many copies of them, but they keep coming back the same way. I'd also like to mention that that particular email account is not getting mail for me, but the app is getting mail for my other emails. All accounts are online. I'm not sure what to do.
Clicked itunes in dock the icon bobs up and down then nothing. the same thing happens with an album design software supplied by a local photo lab both were working perfectly last week. All other software is fine.I have verified and repaired permissions and disks several time and it say every thing is Ok. No goodI reinstalled both bits of software from new copies. No good.Reinstalled Snow Leopard and up dated as required. No good.Used 3rd party software called Permissions/Preference. No good
How can I make volumes exact sizes? I've noticed that when changing the size of my partitions with Disk Utility, the size of the partition actually ends up being .12GB smaller than what I set it to be. So if I type 300.00 in, the partition ends up being 299.88. If I type 300.12 in, it ends up being 299.88. If I type 300.13 in, it ends up being 300.01. If I type 360.12 in, it ends up showing 360.00 in Disk Utility, but on the desktop when I have show item info turned on it says 359.99GB.
I'm looking for a program where I can take pictures with my digital camera and see them on the mac exact the same time I took the picture (plugged in via usb)
I have a Mac Pro with two disk drives is there anyway I can make an exact copy from one disk to another? or do I have to make a disk image and then burn it to a new disk?
I am trying to find out how many files I have on my Internal HD so as I can match them to the copied files on my external HD before I re-format to make sure they have all copied.
My external is MS-DOT (FAT32) and the internal OS Extended Journaled giving me a difference of roughly 7GB, I can only bring up the capacity, available and used information.
