MacBook :: Four Finger Swipe For Spaces?
Oct 16, 2008I just got the new MacBook (love it!), and the new finger gestures are pretty cool. Expose works really well, but I'm not too fond about the four finger left/right gestures. I have spaces set up, and I'd rather use the four finger gestures for left and right swipes to switch between spaces. I can't find a way to do this in the system prefs - is there some type of work-around to getting this to work?

Apr 1, 2008Sitting in front of my old an trusty G4 dual 1 gHz "quicksilver" desktop computer, and I was web browsing, and reading a thread, and wanted to go back to the previous page and got my 3 fingers into position above my keyboard..... when I realized I was sitting at my desktop computer. Now, THAT is conditioning ! Anyone else have these moments? Anyone else as into their MBA's as me?

Aug 24, 2009I'm very satisfied with snow leopard, but with one qualm: I noticed that apple changed SOMETHING with the way expose works with gestures. Back in leopard, when I swiped four fingers down, it would expos�, and four fingers up = show desktop. However this doesn't appear to be the case in snow leopard. When I swipe four fingers down, it often shows my desktop instead of going into expos�. I have to swipe my fingers up and down a few times to get it to go into expos� correctly. It's really odd and I don't understand why it's doing this. Could it be related to the fact that I have my upper right corner set to show desktop?

Nov 11, 2008I just received my brand new MBA 2.0 from Apple Store, but there were NO FOUR FINGER SWIPE on it ? The 3 tech support guys I went through, were all clueless to what was wrong, they checked firmware, software etc... nothing wrong but the four finger swipe was not on my MBA 2.0
So I am getting a replacement, unfortunately now I have to wait again.. Anyone else with this problem ?

Jul 23, 2009I just switched from firefox to Safari 4. In firefox, if I swiped down with three fingers it would go automatically to the bottom of the page, and if I swiped up it would go to the top.
Is there anyway I can do this in Safari 4? I really miss this function.

Jan 13, 2011I've had an iPhone for the last few years and am used to the direction of swiping on the iPhone. I recently purchased a macbook pro and noticed that the scrolling on the iPhone and Macbook occur in the opposite direction when scrolling from top to bottom and it's driving me crazy. I'm looking for a way to change the direction that the window moves when using the two finger swipe on my macbook pro.
When scrolling though web pages on the iPhone, sliding your finger from the top of the phone to the bottom displays text above the current viewing window. In other words, if I place my finger over a word and move my finger up or down my finger is still on top of the word when I'm done scrolling. Scrolling on the track pad of my macbook pro works in the opposite direction. On the macbook when I swipe two fingers from the top to the bottom of the track pad the text above the current window is shown. If I put my cursor over a word and two finger swipe the word moves in the opposite direction as my fingers. I would like to change this behavior so that scrolling occurs in the same manner that it does on the iPhone.

May 19, 2008I just went to the mozilla site and left some feedback for firefox requesting the 3 finger swipe gesture to be implemented, like in safari. Although, my single request probably wont do much, maybe others have and I'm contributing. Anyway, i thought i should post the link here, and anyone that could be bothered could fill it out as well.. the more people we get to send it, the more likely they developers will implement it

When i go to four finger swipe down it pulls the windows all up like it's supposed to for about a second then pushes them all off to reveal desktop. same goes for using mighty mouse Also to get the windows back to normal on the screen i need to click off to the side of them.

When I try to swipe four fingers up to get to my desktop it doesn't work. When I try to go back a page in safari by swiping three fingers to the left it wont go back. But when I use two fingers to scroll up and down pages that works just fine. I haven't taken it to an apple store due to I am stuck at college and there isn't one around.

Nov 3, 2009I've had my Magic Mouse since last thursday (29th Oct) and i've noticed the 2 finger swipe gesture no longer actually functions. I'm trying it in Safari (with history available to swipe through) and its definately enabled in the system preferences.
Instead of doing the swipe gesture it now just scrolls left and right. Its also not a case of positioning my fingers wrong as it used to work around 2 days ago and now it definitely no longer works.
I'm going to re-pair it a few times and replace the batteries but if it doesnt magically come back I will be replacing it.Just curious if anyone else who has had their magic mouse for this long has lost this gesture too?

Feb 18, 2012I think this is a recent problem, but it could be a problem that I have only noticed recently. This is on a 2011 MacBook Air.
Whenever I switch back to the desktop from a fullscreen app there is a half second delay before the wallpaper appears.
When I use a three finger swipe out of the desktop, the wallpaper disappears immediately. When swiping between two fullscreen apps (mail and itunes, for example), you can basically see half of each app as you swipe, but this isn't the case with the desktop, it disappears to the patterned grey.
The menu bar does remain there, and when set to translucent always shows the background. I have tried this with a number of wallpapers including the default and solid colours.
If this is unclear I can try to upload a screenshot.
If this is common, then so be it, but for some reason I believe this worked differently. Searching came up with nothing but I may be searching for the wrong thing.

Done a few searches, know widgets won't go, but you might be able to "customize" the space a bit... Don't know why, but would just like to if I could.

1. How can i move my desktop icons to other spaces ? For example I want to create a new space for image files on my desktop so whenever i go to Space 6 i will see different desktop icons. Basically, as we separate apps in different spaces, can we separate icons ?
2. How can i get the benefit from my scroll wheel ? In safari, i want to click on mouse wheel and scroll up and down the page.

May 21, 2012The Dock doesn't appear. Spaces is greyed out and won't stay enabled. Desktop picture cannot be selected (stays standard blue screen). Screensaver does not work and cannot set hot corner.
I have deleted the dock plists, restarted, repaired permissions, updated to 10.6.8, restarted again. Still no dock, no Spaces, no desktop picture change, no screensaver.
How did this begin? I had lots of large-memory apps running (eg. Photoshop, Garageband, Pages, Audacity, etc) and then there was a freeze, I can't remember which app – probably Photoshop) and I had to shutdown using the on/off button.
After that startup, all the problems were present. :-( (I've looked at related Dock-crash posts here: I do not have installed: Parallels; Fusion.)

Apr 12, 2009I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the 4 finger gestures built into OSX? I've looked around and found no way to override them. If nobody is knows directly how to accomplish this I'd also be interested in knowing what libraries the handlers may reside in so I can poke around and try and do it myself.
I'm also interested in trying to find a way to make 3 finger tap do a middle click. Or something along those lines.
MacBook Pro :: 1tb WD Does Not Show Up On The Desktop
Sep 3, 2010So, i bought a used macbook pro (2,2) 15inch 4gb ram, 320gb hd, and it is in GREAT condition, looks brand new. when i saw the laptop, i made sure everything worked, even the usb ports and all is fine.
when i came home, i formatted, and installed Snow Leopard, did ALL the updates before i did anything else. and i just noticed now when i plugged in my 1tb WD Passport it dosnt show up on the desktop, nor the disk utility, however the hard drive light turns on but when i put my hand on the laptop, it dosnt appear to be 'spinning' up.
i tried plugging in USB stick in both USB ports and it works, shows up just fine.
so i dont think it could be the usb ports..
BUT when i plug the same external hard drive on my new i7 imac it shows up.yesterday, i plugged in the same drive into a friends Mac Pro, and had no problems. but i cant seem to figure this out.
