Having discovered spaces as a result one of the threads down below and loving them, we wonder if it is possible to have a different desktop picture in each space? Done a few searches, know widgets won't go, but you might be able to "customize" the space a bit... Don't know why, but would just like to if I could.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have only been a Mac user for about six months now but there is a problem I can't figure out (maybe it can't be done). Is there anyway when you are browsing files within Finder (or viewing a picture in Preview) that you can select a photo and have it immediately become your desktop background. I know in Windows I was always able to do this by just right clicking on the file and set background was an option. The only way I've found to set the background on my Mac is to right click on the desktop and then choose the "Change the Desktop Background" option and do it there. I can also do it within iPhoto or Picasa. But quite often I'm just browsing through my files in Finder and I run across a picture I'd like to use for my background. Surely if you can do it in Windows you can do it somehow in Mac OS.

I have got a few questions
1. How can i move my desktop icons to other spaces ? For example I want to create a new space for image files on my desktop so whenever i go to Space 6 i will see different desktop icons. Basically, as we separate apps in different spaces, can we separate icons ?
2. How can i get the benefit from my scroll wheel ? In safari, i want to click on mouse wheel and scroll up and down the page.
3. Zoom function in photo preview and iphoto is not user friendly, i cannot use mouse wheel to zoom in and out like i do in picasa ?
Does an app exist that hides all desktop icons in certian spaces? For example, I use space two for all my non-work things and would be great to hide the messy desktop this space.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anybody had a solution to this problem which involves placing a widget onto a particular Space on the desktop, I have tried opening the widgets folder when Spaces is activated to add it to a particular space but it does not recognize it. I would have thought that a solution to this would be available, but having searched the internet for any 3rd party app or solution I have found it very difficult to get any answers. I just want something that that allows me to work on different Spaces without having a widget appear all the time, except in an allocated space on my desktop.....

View 10 Replies View RelatedThe Dock doesn't appear. Spaces is greyed out and won't stay enabled. Desktop picture cannot be selected (stays standard blue screen). Screensaver does not work and cannot set hot corner.Â
I have deleted the dock plists, restarted, repaired permissions, updated to 10.6.8, restarted again. Still no dock, no Spaces, no desktop picture change, no screensaver.Â
How did this begin? I had lots of large-memory apps running (eg. Photoshop, Garageband, Pages, Audacity, etc) and then there was a freeze, I can't remember which app – probably Photoshop) and I had to shutdown using the on/off button.Â
After that startup, all the problems were present. :-( (I've looked at related Dock-crash posts here: I do not have installed: Parallels; Fusion.)Â

View 4 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden tonight after waking up my powerbook all the normally white backgrounds, like where I am typing text right now in Firefox, every document in word, even portions of every icon in the finder, have turned a light yellow.

I'm having a strange problem with my MacBook. I'm dual monitoring, and yesterday the screen on my actual MacBook went to the blue apple background instead of the BMW M Coupe I had as the background. Strange, but I didn't really care. Then today, I decide to change the background on the 21". I try and change it once and System Preferences crashes and I relaunch it. Now when I click on a new background it doesn't work and it spikes my CPU a bit. These wallpapers were downloaded off of a forum (downloaded each of them individually) and originally resided on my desktop (icons) but then I moved them to my HD. Thats when the problem started. Is my CPU supposed to spike when my HD is being used (searching for something in finder)?

I'm stuck on a rather buggy problem. I'm trying to produce animated gifs with transparent backgrounds for incorporation into a Keynote (v. 3) presentation. [The individual frames of the substantial animations I am creating are being produced in Matlab using the "print -dpng" command with white backgrounds, which I then want to make transparent.] I seem to be able to download silly animated gifs with transparent backgrounds from the web that display correctly in Keynote. But when I produce such animations myself using convert [from the imagemagick suite, both the version distributed with fink and the more recent version available at [URL] all frames after the first display with white backgrounds in Keynote (but look ok elsewhere). Optimizing the animated transparent gifs in adobe ImageReady CS (v. 1) Does anyone know a good mac program to make animated gifs (with transparent backgrounds) that display correctly in the latest version of Keynote?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed the updates yesterday and restarted. Upon restart, the dock was gone. I went into the preferences, and made sure everything was correct with the settings. Also, the background image is going bezerk, changing every 3-4 seconds, even thought it's not set to do so. Expose is not working, the "Application Switcher" (cmd + tab, sorry, don't know proper name) is not working, and there is a strange black background in nearly every window.

I've repaired permissions and restarted multiple times. i've never had this happen before...
I never really bothered using SPACES before - thought it was kinda pointless really.
Then the other day I messed around with it - and now I get it It really is a nice feature!
The only thing that worries me, is whether it is a huge resource hog ? Activity Monitor doesnt really show how much cpu it takes...
Whenever I try to assign jDownloader to one of my spaces it shows it but when i click on it nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with my spaces setup and I'd like to know if it's possible to unlock 5 spaces in a row (columns), as opposed to the current limit of 4 columns and x amount of rows. Maybe I'm just being picky but, when it comes to spaces. I like being able to just move horizontally from beginning to end without getting lost when additional rows are attributed.

But the keyboard shortcuts only allow me to jump to Spaces 1 - 9 with (Ctrl or ^ - (Space No.)) For example, if I were to jump to Space 8 from any space I would press ^ - 8. However, how do I use the shortcut for 10 - 16? I tried pressing ^ - 10. But it simply brings me back to Space 1 as it recognizes the first digit only.

meaning that if space 1 was on monitor 1, and space 2 was on monitor 2, i could switch monitor 2 to space 3 while keeping monitor 1 on space 1.
i feel that this will be a better way to use spaces with multiple monitors, rather than many extended desktops.say you want internet work on one space, then different word documents on 2 other spaces. if you could switch between those documents while keeping the internet on the same space.i know that this can be sort of accomplished be setting apps to appear in every window, but that is a hack and annoying solution.this would be a great addition to 10.3 - more customization!
I can't use f8 for spaces shortcut...? and yes i have enable spaces ticked and f8 to activate spaces... perhaps i am missing something?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have Spaces set up to "switch directly to a space" using command+# For some reason, however, Spaces will only switch directly to Space # No matter what applications I have chosen for Spaces 2, 3, and 4, Spaces will NOT directly switch to them using the shortcut. I can still switch to them manually with command+arrow keys, though. It doesn't matter what application I choose as Space 1... I can directly switch to it. But the other 3 spaces just won't allow me to directly switch. (Yes, there's applications open and active in each of those spaces.) Anybody encounter this or know what's up?
