View 1 RepliesI am a recent mac convert, and while trying to make video ringtones for my iphone found out that I dont have a simple and effective video splitter and joiner. Any popular ones out there? I am not quite fond of iMovie.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that VisualHub is no more, but I still use it to transcode stuff for my Apple TV. I have an mkv file with embedded subtitles (not hard coded) which I can turn on or off in VLC, however I want to hard code them into the movie, so I go through the transcoding process and it ignores the subtitles. Does anyone know how I can get VisualHub to hard code the subs on the output movie? As I'm probably barking up the wrong tree now VisualHub is no longer, could someone point me in the right direction of an easy way to do this? I'd rather not use Handbrake as I don't get as good results (dropped frames, and choppy video) as I do when I use VH.
View 11 Replies View RelatedSo I know there are a few other discussions regarding this subject but none of them are providing me with the info I'm looking for. I am looking to get a few responses on other MacBook Unibody's (Pros welcome too) temperatures when running intense programs (games, video conversion, etc.).
So here's why I am concerned. When running VisualHub in particular, my fans and temp go up absurdly. According to iStat, my fans are over 6000 rpm and my CPU temp hit 92c the other day. I shut it down bc I was having visions of my MB melting in front of me. I have even gone as far as propping up the back to allow for more air flow but that hasn't made any difference as long as I use pretty much any video conversion apps. Games (like Spore) make it hot, but not like this
I can find links to the previous MacBooks temps (which I had and this was never a problem) but nothing on the Unibody's. So please everyone, do share. Please include what apps you were running or if your MB's ever shut down from overheating.
So I have 2 .avi files and all i want to do is make them into ONE file. I can't find a free program that does this for the mac to save my life. Windows has about a million programs that do this. I am attempting to do it in iMovies but it is going to take hours (on my old g4 laptop) to even import these 2 files...

just before I ask the question, i'm not in the market, not at all in fact, I'm just intrested to see if the new mac pro's are as fast as the 8 core 3.2 ghz model which holds the highest geekbench score of that mac.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to add some ram memory to a Mac Pro at my workplace. The Mac Pro came with 2 GB 800 MHZ. Do you think I can add this type of RAM to it? This is not ECC memory.
Also, I have red that in order for the Mac Pro to work properly needs to have all the ram sticks of the same quantity (1 Gb for example). Is this mandatory? Could I have 2 sticks of 2 GBs each and 2 of 1 GB each?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI wan' t to buy a Blu Ray reader to rip my Blu Ray and saw it directly via Boxee Box or other media player software.
I don' t need to write disk with that drive.
Well the time has come to change the Hard Drive in my late 2009 MAcbook. Seems that 250GB got filled up much faster then I expected and I'm left with only 40 GB or so. With that I'd like to swap out to old drive for either a 320 or 500 GB one. but I"m not sure exactly which drive to buy and what exactly will fit. The advice from the members of this forum has been invaluable to me in the past so here I am again. What would you all recommend?

If I replaced the hard drive with another SATA would that solve the problem? I have a 1tb that I am waiting to install because i think my computer might be frying hard drives.

i know the MBA is the machine I want, but i'm afraid of spending 2500 on a notebook which isn't very futureproof.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the forums and to macs. I'm having serious video card issues and everything I've read on the subject suggests that the card has heat sink issues and that a new card is required. I'm out of warranty and was just wondering if I had to go through the apple site to purchase a new card or could I just figure out what models are compatible with my mac and purchase one from a retailer or ebay?
The card I'm using now is ATI Radeon X1900 XT and is PCIe bus. I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I have a mac pro that I purchased in 2007.
If there's any additional information I need to post just let me know.
