View 7 Repliesi have a belkin g plus mimo router that i'm using to send internet to my iphone, powermac (via airport card), and an xp box (via ethernet)
my problem is that the powermac drops the internet connection sporadically. as in its still on the network with a router connection just not receiving internet data. it can also not be accessed remotely by the iphone while this is happening. almost like a false report of being on the network. network prefs show an green light and the proper ip addy, and both the iphone and xp box are still on the network and receiving internet. the only way i have found to remedy the problem is to turn off airport and then turn it back on from the menu bar. this is not accetable. only a temporary solution. especially since i like to access the network from the "outside" (ie other computers, or my iphone on the road). i have no idea what to do bout it. i don't even really understand what the underlying problem is
I have a 24" Dual Core IMAC, Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and have a new MAC address. My external hard drive (Time Machine) stopped working when I got the new MAC addy. The problem is that I do not have the old MAC addy. Is there any way to get my good IOMEGA hard drive to start working again with Time Machine? If so -- how?

If you fill in the contact form and send a message, it will say if the mail doesn't get though, use the email in the readme but i can't find the readme. I have read it's quite difficult to contact the main guy which is a shame as saft is a great little addition to safari.
my Mac Mini keeps giving me the "name of your computer "Mac mini" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Mac mini (2)" message lately. It keeps going from there. For example, right now it's up to "Mac mini (5)".

Anyone know anything about it? I tried using instructions from sites like:[URL]
Still doesn't work for me.
Every month I change my wallpaper and in order to make the whole look more complete I also change the DefaultDesktop.jpg files under Core Services to the same image.
I just think it looks better for OS X to log in to the same wallpaper instead of changing from Aurora to my wallpaper
Never had a problem, however now for some reason any picture I put in there named DefaultDesktop.jpg OS X doesn't recognize it. Instead I just get a light blue wallpaper (almost as though the picture is not there).
I have tried this with loads of pictures and the only one that works (surprisingly) is Aurora (but not the original one just one I have downloaded after Googling OS X Leopard Wallpaper...
For about a little over a year I have noticed something strange. When the computer turns on and the login screen appears the name of my computer "John's iMac G5" is under the big Mac OS X heading. Normal, but what isn't normal is that the computer adding numbers to the end of it's name so the appears like so "John's iMac G5 (2)" and currently that number is up to 5. So I assume it will change the name to have a 6 relatively soon. I was just wondering what is causing this? If I try to delete the numbers from the name, it just starts back up again within a few days. I am running Leopard version 10.5.8...this never happened when the computer had Tiger installed on it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery so often I boot or reboot my computer and the "Computer Name" changes by adding a number 2 to the name, for example my computer at home is called "Dilbert" and when I boot I notice the has changed to "Dilbert (2). When I try to change it back I get a dialog box that tells me "The name of the computer "Dilbert" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Dilbert (2)". To change the name of your computer, open the System Preferences and click Sharing, then type the name in the Computer Name field." BTW, this is the field I am in and attempting to change the name in.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyway, I just recieved MBA 11' as a xmas gift. i liked its applications (ie garage band, ical, dashboard etc.) but because i have been using Windows (XP,vista and windows 7 at the moment) ever since i had my first pc, i am not really comfortable on navigating my way through this laptop.
question: i know i can change my os, but by doing so, will i lose those applications mentioned? and if i will, can i ever get them back (but with windows still installed)? also, is there any way to marge the two and get the best of both worlds (windows os + MBA applications)?

Is it recommended to keep calling my Startup Disk "Macintosh HD" or is it ok to change it's name to only "Macintosh" ? Will the name change might do effect if I upgrade to snow leopard? The reason I want to remove "HD" is because I know it's an HardDrive and in bootcamp, i like to see Macintosh & Windows not Macintosh HD & Windows.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am looking to see if there is a program(s) out there to change OS X desktop theme. Mainly how the tool bar looks/acts.
I want my kids to start using my G4 and they have no concept of where to look for the apps folder or how it works. They are used to Window and Ubuntu.
I like how Ubuntu has programs ot change how the tool bar acts. I was hoping to change the mac a little.
Also off the base of this thread, coming from a Windows and Linux past, is it an issue if my kids just click the red X instead of using the File/quit method to close programs? I see the menu bar still exists when they just hit the X..
I'm getting a new iMac delivered on Tuesday, but I'm in student accommodation, and the internet (which costs 90 a pop!) is set to a certain mac address, namely the one for my old macbook.
I know you can change a mac address (I think, based on some searching that it's with the
Code:
sudo ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx command), but does that change it change it permanently or just make it look different? Say, for example, if I had to reformat, or say, boot into windows with boot camp, would I need to change it again or would it be set permanently?
I can't seem to change it at all. How do I do it?
