View 2 RepliesEquipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content. Â
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details. Â

can you change the opening location of a folder?
When I open up any of my folders from my desktop (Macintosh HD, My Documents) the folder is on the far right of the screen with about a quarter of it off the screen. It gets annoying to have to drag it onto the screen every time, then as soon as I quit and open it back up, it's back in that spot.
Running Mac OS 10.6.1
I changed the account preferences (in the System Preferences) so that the username is pointed to Data/users/username
The Finder icon in the dock still opens to to Programs/users/username, even after rebooting. All other apps appear to be using Data/users/username for saving files and other stuff.
How do I change the Finder on the Dock to open to Data/users/username?
I have a strange problem at least to me. Recently I moved my iTunes library to an external drive and all went fine. I used the consolidation tool to achieve the task and all went just fine. Since doing this every time I open iTunes the location of the library has changed back to my local drive.
For example...
I set it to: volumesmediaiTunes Media
and it is automatically changed to: usersmemusiciTunesiTunes Media
I used to have it so that whenever I take a screenshot it would go to a folder of my choice. But I have recently put a new hard drive in my MacBook and thus have a new Leopard install and do not remember how I originally set this up because it was such a long time ago.
Does anyone know what Terminal command or something that will let me make my screenshots go to something like User/Tyler/Pictures/Screenshots?
I'm fairly new to the Mac OS, having just bought my first mac not too terribly long ago. I have it installed on a 20-GB hard disk, and have run out of room. I'm wanting to migrate my Applications directory off of the root of my primary drive and onto my second 320 GB drive.
I dont know if this is possible, but I thought I'd ask.
Well i'm trying to burn a disk image onto a DVD-DRL using disk utilities. I get everything all into disk utility and the blank cd is there and the DMG. When i select burn and the burn options comes down, It only allows me to burn to the super drive and not to the blank DVD. I tried going along and just burning it to the SuperDrive and it didn't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed a new harddrive and I made 2 partitions. One for my system, preferences and installed programs and one for my files.
The problem comes when i put things on my desktop or download stuff. These folders are on my system partition and when i download or save to the desktop temporarely, i have to copy the files later to my other partition and delete the original.
It would save me a lot of time if downloaded files and files saved to the desktop are written on my documents partition.
hence the question: is there any way to change your desktop and downloads folder location to another location/drive?
I just noticed that when I change the location for the weather app the F/C overlaps the text box. It has never done this before. What could be wrong with my macbook pro? here is a screenshot of it.

I want to change screenshot location from my Solid State hard drive with OSX on it, to my 2nd storage hard drive, how do I do this? I am aware of "defaults write com.apple.screencapture *location*" but I want to change the location to my 2nd drive which doesn't have OSX on it, every time I've tried to insert MacintoshHD2 in there it just doesn't work?

It really ***** me that Office 2004 places the Microsoft User Data folder in your Users/Accountname/Documents folder, and if you move it it just makes a new one Is there any reliable way to move the location to somewhere else and keep it that way? The Documents folder should be the realm of the user and the user alone, damn applications should keep their noses out!

MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.5 date and time set automatically to use a network time server (domain controller). After a few weeks of the end-user utilitizing it on their home network, the time reverts back to January 6, 2012. How can I set a secondary location if the first location is unreachable?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my iTunes media folder to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac's hard drive. The new one is located on a hard drive attached to my Airport Express. Since then, I keep getting messages stating that certain items weren't copied to my iPhone because the originals couldn't be found. When I check, the iTunes media folder has reverted to the location on my iMac's main hard drive.Â
How can I prevent this? At best this is annoying, but it also is using up hard drive space unnecessarily. Is this behavior avoidable, or is it something that goes with the territory when you move your media folder to an external hard drive?

A recent crossover to Apple OS I am finding it difficult to specify a location for any downloaded files. Example I may want the first download in directory labeled 'A' and the next in directory labeled 'B' yet I only seem to be able to specify a default location for all downloads (in this case a folder in my 'Folders' directory labelled 'downloads')
Is there a way to specify ad hoc where you wish something be saved?
Hope I have been clear.
I have a MacBook Pro, aluminum running Snow Leopard, 10.6.2.
When I type something, there are times when my cursor will spontaneously skip to another location. As an example: if I am typing this, the cursor might jump to the subject title area.I have been very careful to not touch the trackpad and still have this trouble. I posted this problem some time ago, but had no help or information about this at all. It is getting quite frustrating and I am hoping that someone out there will have a clue about this and perhaps a solution.
I'm used to working on a PC. When I open a file on a PC and then do a 'save-as', the PC always saves the new file in the same folder as the original. This seems so obvious, and 99% of the time is exactly what you want. On the other odd occasions it's simple to change the path.
But it doesn't happen on a Mac. MAC saves the file to wherever you last did a 'save-as'. Quite often I forget to check where this is and change it. I then have to do a 'Search' in 'Finder' to look for it. This gives me another problem, because 'Search' goes off hunting before you've even finished typing the name of the file - and either seems to find hundreds of unrelated items, or zilch! The 'help' on search doesn't help. The last time this happened to me, I could only find the file by searching manually in each of the places I thought it might be - and never managed to find it using the 'Search' facility.
I used to find 'Default Folder X' a help in regard to fixing the 'save-as' location, but the current version working in conjunction Snow Leopard, doesn't seem to be so effective.
Hi y'all: i just purchased FCP Studio 5 retail (ouch) and installed it, but not before i had a deal fall through with someone who had "sold" me their copy but then rescinded the deal. So, i have my own copy now, but i have THEIR license key registration - i need to enter mine, but throwing the apps away doesn't delete this info; it's stored somewhere else.
can anyone point me to the correct file for deletion, so that when i relaunch any of the studio apps, i will be prompted for (correct) license key information?
Where is the location of the firewall log in Leopard?
When I click on Security> Firewall>Advanced> Open Log nothing happens.
I can't access the internet since I can only connect to a private address starting with 169.254.xxx.xxx
I'm thinking some firewall issue has suddenly made not able to use DHCP to access the internet.
I am changing all of my icons on my mac and want to change the icon for PC when it is on the same network, where is the icon located in Mac OS X so I can change it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded Get Tube and would like to be able to have a song in mp3 format off You Tube. The problem I am having is finding where the song goes after I download it off Get Tube. I went into preferences and selected the song to go into my users/name/downloads but when I look in there after the song is done, it is not there. In fact, it is no place to be found. Anyone know why I might be having this problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan I get a (vague?) location from an IP address?
View 5 Replies View RelatedInstead of opening the hard drive then clicking on the applications on the sidebar I would like to have that accessible right from my dock.
Is it possible to do something like that?
I'm running Snow Leopard right now.
I just received my Mac Pro. I already took out the stock HD and inserted an Intel SSD as a Boot Drive and two Western Digital Black 1 TB Drives. The Intel SSD is in Bay 1 and then the 2 WD Black's are in Bay 2 & 3. When I open Disk Utility the Intel is first in the tree as expected, but when I click on the 1st WD Black in the tree (2nd drive) it says Bay 3 and then when I click on the 2nd WD Black (3rd drive) it says Bay 2.
Any ideas as to why it is like this in the tree? I would expect that the 2nd drive I click on being the 1st WD Black (physical location Bay 2) would be second in the tree, but it is 3rd. The reason this is a concern is because I intend for one of the WD Black's to be a data drive and the other to be a Time Machine drive. I do not want to get the two confused when I remove them in a year from now to perform maintenance.

When I try to save a file in TextEdit or Pages after a pause between last save, it fails due to that error. "Pages could not save example.pages because its location could not be determined." This just started recently, and is annoying.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to 10.1.3 and Final Cut Pro still cannot update ALL my projects and events that are in the Old Final Cut Projects and Events on my 2T My Passport external HD.Â
I get a message that this location - My Passport - is not a valid and that I should choose another SAN location or folder.Â
I'm at a loss here. I have always been able to use the external HD when using Final Cut Pro.Â
I have watched Final Cut Pro how-to-update videos, have searched these discussions but to no avail.Â
Pretty new to Apple products. I'm attempting to use an external monitor that is located above and behind my laptop. However, I can't find a way to set Snow Leopard to let me move the mouse from the primary laptop display upward into the auxiliary display.
Currently, I need to roll the mouse off the right edge of the laptop display to reach the left edge of the external display. Very counterintuitive.
