View 6 RepliesI know this is going to be an incredibly easy fix, but I can't find it. The Hard Drive on my new iMac is not appearing on my desktop, nor is it appearing in the "Device" menu in Finder.
when I connect my Garmin Edge 705 to the MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7.4) the device won't mount as USB-drive instead it just goes into charging mode. This wasn't the case earlier with the MacBook Pro (>10.7.3) and this isn't the case with a MacBook running still on Snow Leopard.Â
Therefore I assume that something has changed in the Mac OS X 10.7.4 particularly in the Finder?

My Macbook Pro has been running into constant problems actually printing to any wireless device.

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."
I get this error during the Windows 7 setup, right after I begin the installation (occurs in the middle of "step 1" of the two steps that Windows organizes the installation into)
Does anybody have a solution for this? I'm putting in the most recent Windows 7 release onto my mac, have a partition, etc. etc.....nothing seems to be working. Just seeing if anybody has a fix. Tomorrow (I've been trying to do this for a week and am going absolutely nuts) I'm going to but the Windows 7 iso onto my USB and see if that works grumble grumble
I know how to change the name of a partition. But I want to change the name of the actual device I want to change that. Any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnother one of those "external hard drive not recognized" problems: I am using a Mac Mini. The external LaCie drive is in one of those beautiful boxes designed by a guy named Porsche. It's connected via Fire Wire. I have my iPhoto library stored on it. It was working just fine for the past two days after I first connected it.
Now it does not show on the Desktop. It is identified only as "Unknown device" in "About This Mac." iPhoto doesn't recognize it. I've looked at the other threads on this subject here and have reset the PRAM. Disk Utility recognized it for a while and said the disk was OK. Now Disk Utility does not recognize it at all.
I turned off the drive and turned it back on. That resulted in an alarming series of beeps, almost like somebody was sending the Morse code symbol for "E" over and over again. I turned the drive off and then on again. Now the light goes on and the drive whirs nicely. I am using System 10.6.2. Or rather, at this point it is using me.
Uhh hard to fit the title, but in System Profiler - Sata device tree, normally you see <hard drive name> and underneath it <partition 1 (IE Macintosh HD)>, however since installing my SSD, everything shows <SSD NAME> and then the SSD partition but also shows hard drive partitions there?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my Rev. C. Before I installed it, my fan kicked in only when I had a external device attached, hard disk drive, optical drive, etc. Now it runs more often. Not a big deal, but thought worth mentioning.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAnyone have suggestions? I have a single 1.8ghz g5, 1gb ram, 10.4.10. I have a maxtor OneTouch III USB 2.0 200gb drive attached to it.
I can not seem to eject/unmount this drive. Every time i hook it up I just have to end up pulling the USB plug or turning the drive off suddenly to get it to "eject" but then i get the improper device removal error/warning message.
I have tried dragging to trash, I have tried apple E (which is what I usually do to any device) and I have tried going into disk utility and ejecting/unmounting from there as well. no dice.
I'm using a 500GB WD external hard drive to store a lot of data. It's been working fine, plugged into a USB hub. Suddenly, today, the drive stopped appearing when I plugged it in. I've tried plugging it in directly to the computer, it doesn't help. In system profiler, the USB port shows up as : Vendor Specific Device. The ID is confirmed as being from Initio, so I was rather dismayed. Upon trying the drive with another computer, same thing. The drive just shows up as an Initio device, not my external drive. I've rebooted and changed cables many times.

I have a total of 10 USB devices connected to my G5 Mac, including hubs, printers and scanners. Most behave fine, but one or two cause minor problems. The worst offender is a Sierra Wireless 875U Aircard, which is a wireless broadband modem I got through AT&T. I use it for my Internet connection.
Every time I power up my Mac or bring it out of sleep, it won't recognize the 875U, even though it's plugged directly into the Mac's front panel USB port. I can't even see it on System Profiler. Having it in a different port or going to a hub port doesn't make any difference.
To make it work, I have to unplug it, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. My Mac then recognizes it and it works fine until I shut down the Mac or put it to sleep again. Granted, this is only a nuisance level problem, but it would be nice if the Mac recognized all the ports all the time. I'm running a duel G5 2.0 GHz under Mac OS 10.4.10. I see the exact same problem in my G4 iBook (1.0 GHz) also running Mac OS 10.4.10.
Information:
Dual G5 / 2GHz

I would like to make my usb memory bootable. Is it any way to get the drive to show up in startup items in sys.prefs? I have tried with fdisk, hdiutil and diskutil but have not been able to select my drive. I thought it was going to happen with fdisk. Typing fdisk /dev/disk1 gives me this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago, I installed AppleTV at my house. Not sure if this is the culprit, but my issues started after it was installed. My MBP will works fine on my home network, then randomly loses the Internet connection. Today, I was able to catch an error message that stated another device was using my computers IP address. So, I checked the ATV, and it was not. Then, I checked my iPhone...and it was! I reset my modem, reconnected my MBP...everything was fine. I then turned on the screen to my iPhone. It happened again. I noticed the iPhone was using the same IP address as my MBP. This time, I reset the modem, and made sure my iPhone was using WiFi when I did this. Now I'm up and running. All devices are set using DHCP. Would it be better to assign Static IP addresses? I've never done this, and don't want to screw anything up.
At my house, I have a lot of wireless devices:
3 laptops
3 iPhones
1 AppleTV
1 iTouch 4G
Plugged into the modem is my desktop computer and an AT&T Microcell. Would the addition of 1 more device (AppleTV) to my network start causing these problems?
Basically, I stick in a CD and it just stays there. Usually the computer does the rest, takes it in, you hear a whirring sound and stuff happens. I did it recently and nothing goes on - I have to take the CD out by essentially taking it by the edge that still sticks out.
I then went into the Apple Icon > About This Mac > More Info... > Disc Burning and found that no burning device indicated to be in existence. Clearly I should be able to have something there, right? Any drivers to download? Or should I just do a complete reboot of the system and go from there?
I've attached my external drive to my 17 inch macbook Pro, on the wirewire 400 port, and it shows up under the profiler as as "Unknown device". The same drive looks fine on my iMAC OS version on both machines is 10.5.2.
If I use the USB2.0 port on the drive and connect it to either machine it can be seen by both.
In the sound preference pane, the input and output devices have 2 properties. the Name, and the Type.
Just being curious, but how can I change the Name attributed to a particular input/output device?
I need some help bluetoothing music from my macbook to my blackberry, I've tried to do it several ways, and it either says on my macbook that "the device does not have the necessary services" or on both that the file transfer has failed.

It doesn't even see my OSX hard drive. I tried booting up my computer and holding down option. It doesn't work. I have a wireless microsoft keyboard. Is it not letting me hold down option because the computer finds the wrieless keyboard to late. Some one said u have to hold down the option key before the mac sounds happens. The keyboard lights don't come on till after that. Should I get a USB keyboard? I have to press the start button on the keyboard to act as the option key when I'm in osx. Could both of those have NAT enabled? I obviously wouldn't be able to disable NAT on the modem if it does, but how do I do this on my router?
I've googled like crazy and I can't find the solution.
