i have a lot of older photos that i wanted to archive, so i created an archive but all of the original photos are still in the folder.
can i delete the originals now or would that permanently delete them from my computer?
i created a virtual machine from an iso file on my hard drive. after its been created do i have to keep the iso file or can i delete it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems viewing all landscape photos from the last 2 years that I have uploaded. I can view them as thumbnails on iPhoto 6 but as soon as I try full screen view, a grey box appears with an exclamation mark. I also can't upload them using the facebook app.
I went to my originals file to try and sort this out, and start a whole new library. However, I only have photos from 2006 and 2007 in there, so all my photos that I have uploaded are obviously not being automatically saved into the originals folder!!! This is a problem and I don't know why it's happened.
I have looked in the iPhoto library folder and next to the Originals folder is a "Modified" folder. I haven't amended photos, changed descriptions or done anything to modify them, either as a file format or in the iPhoto application. So I don't understand why my photos are saving to the modified folder. Worse still, when I opened up the Modified folder, all my portrait photos that I have uploaded since 2007 are in there, but none of my landscape ones are in there. So I can't get hold of them at all.
My family is currently using one ID and with iCloud and the automatic downloading of apps onto devices it gets really annoying. I want to create my own apple ID but I am afraid that it will delete my music/apps/etc from my iTunes library and iCloud. Is this true?

View 17 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to take multiple documents and create one PDF file. Like scanning multiple pages of something and instead of having each page be a file, creating one file. In Preview, you can open multiple PDFs in the same window, but if you print (or Save to PDF from the print dialogue, it will only do each document as is. I would like to avoid loading multiple pages into Word and then exporting to PDF and I would also like to avoid having to buy Acrobat. Is this PDF function limited in OS X or am I missing something?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am using iTunes 10.6.1 (7) on Lion 10.7.4 and I have (yet again) noticed that iTunes has started creating multiple copies of Temp File.tmp in the iTunes folder. It creates a copy every single time I do anything inside iTunes, including skipping a track or checking the iTune store. I thought that maybe my ClamXav Sentry scanner was causing issues so I removed the iTune directory from the scan and even shut it down alltogether. I have not shared my iTunes library either so I can se no reason that anything else is holding onto this file and causing iTunes to create a copy of the iTunes Music Library.xml file. Its simple starts at some random time and they stops just as randomly. However this time is particularly bad as EVERYTHING I do inside iTunes caused the problem.

This morning I suddenly found out that, on my new macbook pro, command-delete will delete the file (with the warning window) immediately without putting it into trash first. This function works well yesterday.

I am relatively new to the Mac. I have a Macbook Pro 2.2GHz. Today, a file keeps popping up on my desktop. It is named .DS_Store. The icon looks like a text document. I won't open it cuz I'm afraid of what it is, lol (Windows still clogging my brain). Anyway, I can drag it to the trash and delete the trash, but after a bit, it reappears.
Any idea how to get rid of it?
After I installed OS X I decided to go through my other partitions & do a little spring cleaning. In all, I trashed over 400MB of crap, but one file has refused to be deleted (it's a locked file left over from the old 3Com ISDN modem I had). When I try to empty the trash I get the following message:
"The operation cannot be completed because the item 'IQ320.BIN' is locked."
So, I look through the system help & find out that I either need to log in to OS X as the user who created the document ('root') or restart into OS 9 & unlock it from there.
Well, neither tactic has worked thus far. I restarted into OS 9 but found out that I can't access the file because it's in the trash (in OS X), which is an invisible directory (/Langly/.Trashes/102/). So then I restarted into OS X, logged in as root, but I still couldn't delete it. Desperate, I opened terminal, switched to root (su) found the files, but still can't delete the darned file. I tried rm, mv (thought if I moved it to somewhere that OS 9 could see it...), even chown, but each time I got "Operation not permitted." Any thoughts out there?
I was going through my projects in Aperture and noticed that 1300 photos from a wedding I shot are missing. Well I found them in the trash along with several other photos I deleted on purpose. However there was a distinct difference between the files I was missing and the files I purposely deleted. There was a symbol in the bottom right hand corner. After some research, I found that the symbol meant that the original or source files was missing. But the picture looks like it's there. This also means that I can't edit these pictures of export them. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! I didn't delete these files. I imported everything together and need to figure out how to get them back. Are they tucked away some where? I know when I imported the photos I included all the originals and data associated with them.

I had to re-boot my MacBook Pro and when I turned it back on, all my photos were gone from iPhoto. I can see them in Finder in my Originals folder but I can't view them in iPhoto. If I try to import the pictures into iPhoto it tells me that the photos are already in iPhoto. How do I get all my originals so I can view them in iPhoto?

I want to start organizing, tagging etc my photos I have 1000's so its gonna be a big job.
Looking at tutorials on the web etc, it looks like in your Home folder it has edited versions and original versions of all pics that you have, so basically whatever size your library is, its twice the size (on the ones you've edited)
Is this correct? and is it worth keeping the originals? Photos (along with vids and music) is the one thing I want to backup separate to another HDD, along with the backup already using Time Machine, or is this overkill (ie just one copy on iMac and one in Time machine is enough)
So should I backup the iPhoto library with the originals and the edited in or just the final edited versions? what do others do please.
Also if I have tagged everything in iPhoto, if I copy the actual pics to a Windows PC, does all the tagging go with the pics? eg as per iTunes I done a lot of tagging in there, but the tags are in the actual music file so when I play it on a Windows PC, Xbox 360 etc the tags are ok read by it.
Once I have merged the libraries I tried to "Consolidate Originals For the library" However, I have the following message that shows up.
Is there is a way to find those images that Aperture cannot find?

and having gone in to it i see the file

When I tried to delete in Finder, it moves it Trash, but emptying the Trash leaves it in there. I tried rm -fr * in Terminal and got a "file too long" error.
I have a file in the drop box of my laptop running OSX 10.5.8 I have copied it to the appropriate folder (Music) but it will not permit me to delete it from the drop box folder.
When I try to send it to the trash, it says it is locked. When I go to Get Info, it shows it locked but that area is grayed out. Even when I open the padlock with the password, it stays gray.
This isn't a major problem, but I would like to get rid of this file because it's annoying when I can't get a computer do do what I tell it. Every time I see it, it reminds me that the computer has gotten the best of me.
There is an avi file I found on my computer of an ex gf of mine. Now that I have a NEW gf, it would definitely not be a good idea to keep it on the computer. Problem is, I can't seem to delete it. I'm not super tech savvy, but I was able to delete quite a few other files with no issue, this is the only one that remains.I tried to hold option down while I emptied the trash, as I'd found that online. No go.
