OS X Yosemite :: Installed On 2009 MacBook Pro - Need Downgrade
Dec 11, 2014
I have installed Yosemite and it is hogging way too many resources to run applications efficiently. It appears that the system will not recognize previous install versions (ie. Mavericks). How to downgrade this system back to Mavericks without losing any files that were created in Yosemite? I'd even consider losing the files as not being able to work is beyond frustrating.

I have a 2009 Mac Pro that is running 10.10.1. It is using a Radeon 4870 still from the factory. I have had a mostly flawless experience in the last 5 years with the system, but it has lately been displaying graphical problems and then freezing completely. After the display does quirky stuff that I am attaching in the image, I can only move the cursor. No other actions can be performed, and the only option I have is a hard shutdown with the power button. Usually after I do this, the machine will boot with the chime, but no startup screen will ever appear. It just sets blank. The only way I have found around this is to hold the option key, then boot to my primary drive.
I notice this seems to happen after the computer has woken from sleep. But, the issue originally appeared for the first time after updating to the newest Logitech Control panel for my mouse. I thought it was that, so I removed it and am no longer using that at all. The issue still exists.
Here is an image of what the screen typically does.

My computer keeps notifying me that updates available when they've already been installed and are listed as installed.
The Command Line Tools, for instance, are listed as installed a half dozen times or so, yet it's cosnattly being offered as an available update. The list of updates available for the computer keeps growing, but they're all installed. Update All or Update will run and go through the process, but the list never clears.
How do I get Updates to work properly and recognize what updates are already installed?

Some weeks ago, I installed OS X Yosemite, as shown on my App Store, that was a "System Update available for my IMac 2009". Followed all the steps, normally and installed it as I did many other times ago (with the Maverick, Mountain Lion, OS X).
Just after the installation, I noticed that every single folder or program that depends on "Apple", stopped working.
Examples: Office package opens normally, so as Firefox. But, IPhoto, ITunes, Safari and App Store itself do not.
When trying to reinstall Yosemite or return to the one I had before, using App Store became impossible. Even the "Apple Icon" on the top left corner does not work. I click, it flashes, just IF it was ready to open, but nothing happens, seams that have something stopping the "loading process" of the software.

Until recently, I had an old White Unibody Macbook. I also have an XtremeMac InCharge Home BT, which basically uses blueooth to play audio through external speakers. I simply chose 'Use as audio device" from the Bluetooth menu to use it. However, I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro. I believe the Bluetooth software is newer an not compatible with this bluetooth audio device, as after connecting, there is silence for several seconds, then I get an error message.
Is there anyway to downgrade my Bluetooth software? I would love to use this Bluetooth audio device with my new computer. My current software version is 4.0.5f11. The software version I was using on my computer was 4.0.1f4.

downgrading their macbook pro from mavericks to lion (or, if not lion, to mountain lion)? I have a late 2013 mbpro with rentina (model 11,2).
I am no interested in any flame wars, but I, personally, despise mavericks. I have several other macs I have worked on for years and have been extremely satisfied with snow leopard. I explored installing sl on my mbpro, but it isn't possible to the newer hardware on the mbpro.

I'm trying to dual boot my Macbook Pro (2010) with Windows 7 to run some software that is not Mac compatible. I have encountered one problem after the next, but most recently, my disc drive has stopped reading discs. I had originally gone from Mountain Lion to Mavericks as an upgrade, and my disc drive worked fine - but due to an issue with the Windows 7 installation, I had to completely wipe my computer and start fresh - booting Mavericks from the Cloud directly. This appears to have knocked out my disc drive and try as I might, my computer will not only refuse to read external optical drives, but it will accept discs, not read them, and repeatedly spit them out a few seconds later.
I was looking for a solution - and I'm not sure exactly which route to take. I could downgrade to Mountain Lion and hopefully restore the functionality of my disc drive to install Windows 7 and upgrade my OS after the fact OR I could find a way to repair my disc drive. The issue is most definitely software and not hardware.
Ideally, I'll walk away from this with a partitioned MacBook Pro with both Windows 7 and Mavericks installed. I don't even necessarily need my disc drive to work once Windows 7 is installed.

Im thinking of buying a 2.53Ghz 13 Inch Macbook Pro. Im going to be switching from a E7300 2.66ghz Core 2 Duo PC with 2gb of Ram and Windows Xp. I need something a bit faster then my current configuration and was wondering if the 2.53Ghz Macbook Pro with 4gb of Ram would do me justice. I will be using it mostly for music production, using Propellerhead Reason software, and of course internet use, and HD video. Would I get better performance Switching to the 2.53ghz Macbook Pro?

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.

I upgraded from OS X 10.5 to the WWDC '09 Developer Build of 10.6, but find it too buggy for my everyday use. I wanted to know what is the best way to go back to 10.5. I want to essentially "downgrade" as I do not have time to go a full installation of 10.5. Do I just boot from my 10.5 disc and install it as if I was doing it as an upgrade?

Can someone please tell me step by step how to downgrade from 10.5.7 to 10.5.5 as trying to install the 10.5.5 combo update obviously does not work. Please help as this is very frustrating!
