MacBook Pro :: Downgrade To SL On A Pre-installed Lion On It?
Apr 27, 2012
I'm very frustrated with some of the audio software that is still having compatibilty issues with Lion so I'm trying to find out if anyone has downgraded back to Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro that has Lion pre-installed on it?

I have installed Yosemite and it is hogging way too many resources to run applications efficiently. It appears that the system will not recognize previous install versions (ie. Mavericks). How to downgrade this system back to Mavericks without losing any files that were created in Yosemite? I'd even consider losing the files as not being able to work is beyond frustrating.

downgrading their macbook pro from mavericks to lion (or, if not lion, to mountain lion)? I have a late 2013 mbpro with rentina (model 11,2).Â
I am no interested in any flame wars, but I, personally, despise mavericks. I have several other macs I have worked on for years and have been extremely satisfied with snow leopard. I explored installing sl on my mbpro, but it isn't possible to the newer hardware on the mbpro.Â

I'm trying to dual boot my Macbook Pro (2010) with Windows 7 to run some software that is not Mac compatible. I have encountered one problem after the next, but most recently, my disc drive has stopped reading discs. I had originally gone from Mountain Lion to Mavericks as an upgrade, and my disc drive worked fine - but due to an issue with the Windows 7 installation, I had to completely wipe my computer and start fresh - booting Mavericks from the Cloud directly. This appears to have knocked out my disc drive and try as I might, my computer will not only refuse to read external optical drives, but it will accept discs, not read them, and repeatedly spit them out a few seconds later. Â
I was looking for a solution - and I'm not sure exactly which route to take. I could downgrade to Mountain Lion and hopefully restore the functionality of my disc drive to install Windows 7 and upgrade my OS after the fact OR I could find a way to repair my disc drive. The issue is most definitely software and not hardware. Â
Ideally, I'll walk away from this with a partitioned MacBook Pro with both Windows 7 and Mavericks installed. I don't even necessarily need my disc drive to work once Windows 7 is installed. Â

I did a clean install of Lion (10.7.4) from the App store using a FW SuperDuper clone of my 10.6.8 internal HD. I figured once I did that, I'd be able to run the 10.7.3 combo updater and overwrite 10.7.4.

I have a 21.5 inch iMac that I want to re-install so I can sell it in a clean state. Unfortunately, I lost my original install discs so I called Apple Care (who don't care AT ALL) and they told me that they no longer are able to ship out replacement discs and my only option is to purchase a SL disc on the online store. I ordered a SL install DVD and once it arrived found that my iMac won't boot from this disc. So, I called Apple tech support again and was now told that I can't do what they had suggested I do as described above because apparetnly OS X Lion makes changes to the iMac.
I am left *really* frustrated with Apple's arrogance and unwillingness to help. The agent's only response was to point me to the legal agreement for OS X Lion and he also stated "it's in there somewhere" but couldn't be more specific.

We have a new iMac at work bought through Apple's refurb site. It is running the latest version of Lion with all firmware updates, etc. It is replacing a G5 running Tiger.
The problem is this“ it is supposed to be running Adobe CS5, but also CS4 (and Office would be handly also) We have other macs here, some running Leopard, some Snow Leopard, but the Adobe apps are not happy at all in Lion, and InDesign CS4 crashes all the time and won't even print without jumping through a million hoops (obviously the Office 2004 app won't run at all).
Due to the level of issues we are having with Lion (and the reliability of the all the software under Snow Leopard) I am looking to downgrade to Snow Leopard.I have a full retail version of Snow Leopard (10.6.3), but the Lion system won't boot from the disk, it just gets to the grey screen, and beeps three times. I presume this means that there isn't the required drivers on the disk to run the hardware, or there's a firmware update that doesn't allow installation.
Am i totally stuck with this OS? I was looking to install Snow Leopard on a partiton, but when i run the install disk from the Lion desktop, it reports that I can't run it because 'I have Install Mac OS X 23.1.1.'I would really like to just have Snow Leopard on my iMac, or failing that, Lion on a small partition, and Snow Leopard and all the programs on the larger partition that I would boot from.

I've been reading a lot on the process of downgrading from Lion to Snow Leopard. But it all seems a bit blurry as no actual facts are posted, and I couldn't find out if its only possible for machines that did not come with Lion pre-installed (mine did). I'm really keen on downgrading so I can get back to work. The compatibility with most of the audio plugins I use is not good, so I'd rather just keep working with the previous operating system. I have read a lot of the other threads on this matter, but the main point here is if it is possible to downgrade in a machine that came with Lion preinstalled. I've seen videos on how to do it, but they don't mention if it works on any Mac or only in those that, at some point, already had a version of Snow Leopard installed.

I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro (early 2008). I installed Lion back earlier this year so I could use the iBooks application. Big mistake. Since then my wifi connection constantly drops out. I've roamed these forums and tried just about everything suggested. I would now like to go back to the Snow Leopard software I had installed before.
The problem is the last Time Machine update I ran was on Lion (I know *face palm*). If I were to completely erase my hard drive, install the Snow Leopard DVD, then install the Snow Leopard update, would I still be able to use some of the files from my Lion Time Machine back up? My biggest concerns are my music purchases on the iTunes store and Microsoft Word documents....

I am used MBA Mountain Lion OSX.Â
I am trying to use Business Objects through the web and unfortunately Java 7 is not compatible. I was able to downgrade to Java 6u65 (Java 1.6.0_65)Â but I really need update 45 to get Business Objects to work. Terminal code and/or a download that will allow me to pull out Java version 6u45? (Java 1.6.0_45)?Â
I've been on here trying several other's codes and it says permission denied or "unable to find any JVM versions matching 1.6.0_45"Â
Could that mean I don't have version 6u45 available to me period?
