OS X Yosemite :: Why Does Safari Now Truncate Display Of URL

Dec 3, 2014

Why does Safari now truncate the display of my URLs? I WANT to know if its http or https. I can't find a preference to turn this back on..I own a MacBook Pro, not an iPad with a hinged display.

One size does not fit all. How do I get them back or do I bin Safari and migrate to Firefox?

OS X Yosemite :: How To Make Display Narrower With 4K Display

Dec 2, 2014

This is a Mac Pro 2013.  It runs Yosemite 10.10.1.  I have a Panasonic 4K TV connected to it, running at 3840 x 2025 @ 24 Hz.  This Panasonic does not display the left and right inch or so of the screen image.

Looking at this, the Mac Pro 2013 version of a 4K image is 4096 x 2160 pixels, which is 256 pixels wider than this Panasonic screen and might just account for the problem I am seeing. How can I reduce the output on the Mac so that it nicely fits onto the pixels of the Panasonic screen?  After all this used to happen very easily with my 1920 x 1080 previous monitor.

OS X Yosemite :: Automator Display Webpages Task

Dec 1, 2014

I have a workflow that opens a list of webpages into tabs. It worked beautifully on Mavericks. After upgrading to Yosemite, I get the following error for most pages in the list, though some do seem to work: You can’t open the application “Safari” because it is not responding.

It seems that automator is submitting page calls faster than Safari can handle them, but I see no option to add a delay on the display of pages.

The same error occurs when "Google Chrome" or "Firefox" is set as the default browser, which leads me to believe it is an issue with automator or the display webpages task, not safari.

OS X Yosemite :: Messages Won't Display Images / Sandbox Violation?

Dec 7, 2014

when I receive an iMessage that contains a photo or other image, Messages on Yosemite won't display the image? It appears to be a sandbox permissions issue.

Briefly, when I receive an iMessage that contains any image, the image displays just fine on my iOS devices, but in OS X Yosemite (10.10.1, build 14B25), it just shows up as a generic icon (attached at the bottom of this question). Clicking the icon or magnifying glass doesn't load it, double-clicking it doesn't load it, Quick View won't show it... nothing. If I look in /var/logs/system.log, any attempt to view it generates sandbox-related errors:

Messages[30820]: [Warning] Transfer: unable to create image for IMG_2758.JPG.jpeg

kernel[0]: Sandbox: Messages(30820) deny file-read-data /private/var/folders/7l/cn4n4k4n4p31ncqq9qqk1klrydkmkm/T/IMG_2758.JPG.jpeg

If I manually open up that directory (/private/var/folders/7l/cn4n4k4n4p31ncqq9qqk1klrydkmkm/T/) I can see the image and open it myself, but Messages can't do it... and I can't for the life of me figure out how Messages's sandbox is configured and what is going on here.

This all happened when I upgraded to Yosemite; prior to Yosemite, everything worked fine. I've tried to blow away /private/var/folders/7l/ and let it get rebuilt, to no avail. I've also hunted for Messages's sandbox config file, to no avail.

OS X Yosemite :: Hard Disc Drive Capacity Display

Dec 11, 2014

How do I contact Apple software technicians to inform them of a bug/defect in their Yosemite software?  When I attempt to find

out how much of my hard disc drive has been used, that is the capacity state - then I receive an incorrect graphic display.  I only have used a small amount of the capacity and I certainly do not have that much in the way of programs.  The graphic

display does not match the text.  The test is correct. I certainly do not have 369 GB in programs!

OS X Yosemite :: Unable To Delete Virus In Safari 8.0

Nov 30, 2014

Since downloading Yosemite w/ Safari 8.0, my Mackeeper has been finding a virus.  It gets quarantined and I delete it, but it keeps coming back though the string of numbers & letters at the end changes. An example: /users/(imac's name)/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/fsCachedData/ (string of numbers & letters).  How can I stop this??  I have had this Mac since 2011 and NEVER had a virus until I downloaded Yosemite!

OS X Yosemite :: Mail And Safari Are Extremely Slow

Dec 4, 2014

Since installing Yosemite Mail has slowed to a crawl with a spinning beach ball for 30 seconds or more each time I select a message or a mailbox.  I had a very large (about 5GB) mail file that I have used as a filing cabinet for years.  The only way i could speed it up was to very tediously delete thousands of stored emails and mailboxes (after copying the old mail file to an external disk).  I had this problem on 2 MacBook Pros (1 Retina) and a MacBook Air.  I also have a MacPro (2013) and did not have the problem on that machine although I do not keep large mail files on it.

In addition Safari takes 10-15 seconds (sometimes longer) to display every web page.  Perhaps it is because the preferences no longer let me select display as received and it is always waiting for the full page do download.  If that is the problem Apple should put it back the other way - many web pages have the bulk of the information available immediately with some stuff taking a while to finish but the info I need is in the first batch.

I have also had problems with Safari quitting with the error report window for no apparent reasons several time a day. In general I find Yosemite (10.1.1 now) is starting to be as quirky and un-user friendly as Windows - it is a giant step backwards!

OS X Yosemite :: (10.10.1) IMac Locking Up Suddenly When Using Safari

Dec 10, 2014

I have a 4-year old Mac and have noticed lately that it freezes up when I am using Safari.  I'll be on a website and all of a sudden, it just freezes. The only way I can fix the problem is to manually turn off the computer and restart it again.  Nothing works - unable to use the force quit command or the dock to close Safari. Why this might be happening, or if there's another way to deal with it when it happens besides turning off the computer?

OS X Yosemite :: Safari Freezing / Brightness Didn't Change

Dec 1, 2014

when i was on my laptop and i forgot to put it on charge so it went flat while i was watching a movie (not on the internet). I couldn't be bothered charging it so i just put it down and went to sleep. The next morning i turned it on and tried opening safari and it went extremely slow, i got the beach ball and when i clicked the apple on top left to try to force quit, after 2 seconds of clicking that froze. When i tried to force quit it from my dock i would click force quit and then my dock would freeze. At this point my mac was just about completely frozen. The brightness didn't change, sound nothing but only the mouse could move. I reset and the exact same thing happened. Google Chrome works so i am using this and i get no freezing problems. It is just when i use Safari.

OS X Yosemite :: Restoring Safari Bookmarks From Time Machine

Dec 4, 2014

Somehow bookmarks in one of my Safari bookmark folders got deleted in the course of attempting to move the folder. When I go into time machine to restore an earlier version of my book marks time machine does not display the contents of the caches folder where I understand the Safari bookmarks are kept, i.e. ~/library/caches/metadata/safari/bookmarks..

Is there a way to get time machine to display contents of the caches and metadata folders? If not, is there another way to restore an earlier version of my Safari bookmarks? I have separate backups on external drives in addition to the time machine backup.
