OS X Yosemite :: Dark Menu Mode Won't Turn Off?

Dec 2, 2014

I have recently tried out the new Yosemite feature "dark menu bar and Dock" using a side add-on called Lights Out and thought it was cool, but was not of any better use so I removed the add-on and went back into "general settings" and unchecked the "dark menu bar and Dock" box. The problem lies in that it won't stay unchecked leaving my system in the dark. So my search the light has begun. I have only tried restarting my system as that is the only thing that I can think of to resolve the issue, but it did not work since the "use dark menu bar and Dock" is still checked and won't stay uncheck after closing the "system preferences" window.

to why it is staying checked and how to force it to go back to light menu bar mode? It's only an inconvenience, but one that should not be.

OS X Yosemite :: Dark Mode App Icons

Dec 7, 2014

Some app icons don't display in the toolbar correctly when in Dark Mode and was wondering if there is a solution...

Google Music Manager is impossible to see unless you click the toolbar icon - is there a fix for this?

Google Drive is the same but I've downloaded an AppleScript which someone custom made which requires editing the PNG files

however, the Google Music Manager doesn't have any PNG files in its Resource folder.

MacBook :: What Causes Dark Smudges On Menu Bar

Feb 1, 2012

This was a sudden occurrence.  Everything fine one minute, then when I opened the MacBook, there are dark (black!) smudges on several of the words on the menu bar.  The first smudge starts at the right edge of the apple and almost totally obliterates the word "safari."  There are light, but still black smudges on File, Edit, View and History, and on the airport icon.  This has never happened before.

Info:
MacBook (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8), This is a sudden occurrence.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Menu Bar No Longer Appears In Fullscreen Mode

Apr 17, 2012

For some reason today my menu bar no longer shows up when I move the mouse to the top of the screen in any application. I have tried restarting several times, opening and closing applications, taking apps in and out of full screen, ran disk utility. All to no avail. Not sure if this is related, but I attached an external drive and booted to the recovery volume on my mac to install Lion on the external drive. It hung at the download so I quit and rebooted to my main drive. Everything worked normally except for the menu bar.Software up to date, 2008 MacBook Pro with no attachments.

OS X Yosemite :: Mail Context Menu Not Working?

Nov 30, 2014

Since the installation of Yosemite, Mail context menus no longer work. Control-clicking on a hyperlink in a mail messages opens a context menu containing these items:

Selecting any of the first 3 has no effect. Just clicking on the hyperlink will switch to the browser (Safari) and open the link. Clicking on "Services" does display a list of Services, and "Open URL in Firefox" at least seems to work. However, "Open URLs in Safari Tabs" does not. This seems to indicate a possible disconnect between Mail and Safari in particular.

I use my MBP w/ a external display, usb keyboard and magic mouse. I keep my MBP in clamshell mode all the time while stationed at my house. When I shut my computer down, everything is peachy, but then when I want to power up my computer, I wish there was a power button on my keyboard so I don't have to open my laptop up and press the power button, then shut it fast. Any way to set a f1 or f2 key to turn on my comp in clamshell mode? or maybe make my magic mouse turn on my computer through some setting

OS X Yosemite :: Keep Menu Bar Visible In All Full Screen Apps?

Nov 30, 2014

Where is the system-level setting to ensure that, even when I maximize an application, the menu bar is still visible. I don't like having to move the mouse to see the battery life, wifi signal, date etc. I'm on Yosemite, if it matters. To be clear, I'm not looking for a workaround that will provide these various bits of information elsewhere. I want to know how to mandate the menu bar stay visible.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Turn Off Single-app-mode?

Apr 20, 2012

I got a new MacBook Air a couple months ago, and transferred the data and settings from my old MBA. Ever since then, it has entered 'single-app-mode' which can't be turned off. I have tried (in Terminal):defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool falsekillall Dock To no avail. No matter what, it stays in single app mode. This is making my MBA virtually unusable. I can't drag and drop between apps, I can't see the iOS simulator and XCode at the same time when debugging, I can't even reference a document while writing an email, unless I print it. It's absolutely terrible. To make the problem even more annoying, when clicking an icon in the Dock to switch apps (really the only way other than command-tab) it doesn't open the last window used. e.g. If I have three Safari windows open, and I switch from email back to Safari, it will open the least recent window, so I have to hunt for the window that was open last. Every single time!If I log in as a different user, the problem doesn't exist, so it's definitely a configuration issue.I do notice, when I use 'defaults read com.apple.dock' that "single-app" is listed in quotes, while other settings are not:

[code]...

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: After Going On 'single-user Mode' It Won't Turn On

Mar 6, 2012

I got a Macbook with OS X. I was too impatient to get the administrator name and password from the previous owner (BIG MISTAKE).I thought I'd follow the instructions from "How To Create A New Administrator Account" (url..) as they seemed easy and straight forward.

I followed the first step of the process and got into single-user mode (black screen white text).I saw that black screen with white text and thought, "Woah man, I'm out my my depth. My brother typed 'help' in order to find out how to exit single-user mode, he said that's how it's done on windows? (I also have limited knowledge about Windows). I typed in various things such as 'reboot' in an attempt to exit. Eventually the battery died. I turned the Macbook back on and the grey screen with the apple logo with the spinning wheel appeared. The spinning wheel span and span but the computer will not start up.
