OS: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)Â
Since today, my wifi stopped working. Basically the menu icon in the top crashes if I click there, and that causes the entire menu to crash. The only way to get the entire menu back is to type in terminal: killall SystemUIServerÂ
I tried:
- restarting computer
- resetting SMC
- deleting System Preferences
- resetting DNS cache
- repair disk permissionsÂ
The only thing that I did recently was:
- install latest Mysql Server (yesterday)
- mac OS updates (last week)

Sleeps just fine if i close the lid or if i go to apple --> sleep, but it will not go to sleep by itself according to the preferences in energy saver. Never happened on my old Macbook pro. I've looked through the sleep page on apple's site, but still cant figure it out. [URL].

I've recently upgrade to Mavericks and since then every time I restart the computer a new wifi network icon appears in the menu bar.
Is this a Mavericks related issue?

I have an old PowerBook G4 which I don't use anymore, due to this problem.I used to run Leopard on it, until it crashed, and I downgraded it to 10.3 (i think.)
Now, I cannot connect to my wifi connection. It reads it, but when I type in the password, (which I assure you is correct) it says that the password is wrong. And when I put in the Leopard install CD (for my macbook) it can't install Leopard, which is obvious, but I can connect to my wifi. How do i fix this wifi problem?

In 10.6 Snow Leopard on Safari 4, the menu is there, you just can't see it. The text has no color. By sheer luck I was reaching down under my desk to grab something and looked up to see the GLIMS preference panel I had left open, then an outline of text. It turns out that if you tilt your monitor back you can indeed see the GLIMS preference panel text outline enough to navigate and get it set up the way you want. Perhaps changing the contrast or something will help as well. Either way, the menu is indeed there.

Evey time it goes to sleep or I turn it off it forgets the fact that there is any wireless around. I have to look for the networks. Then if it wants to will find them and trying to connect to my own wireless network (apple extreme) is a challenge. I do have parallel desktop installed, could that be the problem?

I am trying to reinstall the OS, and got into Internet Recovery mode, and got a list of Wifi networks to select, but my own was not one of them. I even clicked "Other" (or something like that) to enter the SSID and passphrase, but that was rejected. I am now piggy-backing on a nearby wifi, with all the risks that entails. Why won't my Mac see my own Wifi? (Everything else in the house sees "five bars", including my wife's Macbook Air and my iPhone.)

I have recently tried out the new Yosemite feature "dark menu bar and Dock" using a side add-on called Lights Out and thought it was cool, but was not of any better use so I removed the add-on and went back into "general settings" and unchecked the "dark menu bar and Dock" box. The problem lies in that it won't stay unchecked leaving my system in the dark. So my search the light has begun. I have only tried restarting my system as that is the only thing that I can think of to resolve the issue, but it did not work since the "use dark menu bar and Dock" is still checked and won't stay uncheck after closing the "system preferences" window.Â
to why it is staying checked and how to force it to go back to light menu bar mode? It's only an inconvenience, but one that should not be.

For some reason today my menu bar no longer shows up when I move the mouse to the top of the screen in any application. I have tried restarting several times, opening and closing applications, taking apps in and out of full screen, ran disk utility. All to no avail. Not sure if this is related, but I attached an external drive and booted to the recovery volume on my mac to install Lion on the external drive. It hung at the download so I quit and rebooted to my main drive. Everything worked normally except for the menu bar. Software up to date, 2008 MacBook Pro with no attachments.

In short I have a 480GB SSD by OWC. The audio alone, according to "About This Mac", is over 581.14GB... Something is obviously not adding correctly.Â
I must admit, I had a couple of iPods that I downloaded music from to a VMware running Mac OS 10.9.4. The host OS is something that I can't mention...
I used the Hudini for Mac on the 10.9.4 WMware OS to unhide the music.Â
Since I noticed this disc usage inaccuracy. I've deleted most of the music. Because at one point it was showing over 1TB for the audio.
I've also did a command R at start up and ran Disc Permission and Repair.
I also turned off Time Machine, reboot, turned TM back on, reboot. (Someone else had the opposite disc usage and this worked.)Â
My next thought is to delete the Mac OS 10.9.4 via VMware, as this was where I originally downloaded the music from an iPod. I went through the music and transferred over to the host OS the selection that I wanted to keep. When I Get Info on the music app via Mac OS X ssd â–¸ Users â–¸ KOT â–¸ Music â–¸ iTunes â–¸ iTunes Media it comes up with a little over 17GB. Â

I've noticed some more people have problems with their Wifi connection after upgrading, but since I'm experiencing some other difficulties as well, I've placed this in a new discussion."About this Mac" says that my iMac is running 10.7.4. I did however see a failure notice when I returned to my Mac that was doing the upgrade. Apparently something went wrong. So after restarting Mac these things happened:
1. No wifi connection. There are no networks to select from, even though another mac ( a mini) has no problems and connects like before).
2. Mail won't start.
3. iCal won't start.
4. None of the system preference panels load (e.g. General, Network, Users and accounts, etc).
I've hooked up my Mac to an airport express by cable which gives me internet access. For now I'll be installing the 10.7.4 Combo Update as suggested in another discussion, to see if this will fix things. For now, not ammused.

Several files in my hard drive displayed dates from 1984.
Whenever I tried to open it, it says "Item <> is being used by OSX and cannot be opend."
It worked fine if I dragged it to the dock icon and open it.
I think it is due to I did not safely remove my hard drive once.
The 'date modified' info was fine when I tried it on window 7 though.

I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"

I have an iPad and a Mac Pro so I set up internet sharing on the Mac Pro. It looks like it's working from the Mac Pro side -- the little WiFi icon on the menu bar has an arrow -- but the iPad simply will not connect to the internet. My Wifi connection preference tells me the correct network is selected, and the icons to the left of the name look right, but just right of the network name there's a spinning circle icon which means it's still waiting for a connection.Â
Both were just upgraded to the latest OS (Yosemite 10.10.1 for the Pro, iOS 8.1.2 for the iPad) today, which means both were restarted today.

I have an iMac OS X 10.7.3 (purchased in late 2010) with all updates current. I use AirPort to connect to my Linksys router with a WPA2 password.
Nearly everytime I wake my computer from sleep, my wireless router is disconnected, even when I have set my settings and clicked on the lock to prevent further changes. My router always shows on the list of available connections with full strength, but it is more often than not extremely difficult to get it connected again. It says "Could not join "myRouter". A connection time out occured."Â I usually have to use the assistant and go through the steps, which usually includes re-typing my password four to five times before it agrees that I know my own password (which is fairly simple to type, I can't possibly be entering it incorrectly that many times).
I downloaded and installed an update [URL] that quote: "resolves an issue that may cause an iMac to not automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi network after waking from sleep. It is recommended for all iMac (Late 2009 or newer) users running 10.7.3." Â
I tried setting a new location, and set the DHCP setting under TCP/IP to be manual. I was successful in connecting to the internet that time, and locked the settings to prevent further changes, yet the first time my computer woke from a sleep, the lock was unchecked and the settings were changed back to automatic. And I was disconnected yet again.Â
This has been going on for months, but in the last couple weeks I have found I am now unable to lock the lock to prevent changes, no matter if my Location is set to automatic or one that I have created. Really looking for resolution as this is wasting so much time, I am on and off the computer multiple times a day.Â
