OS X :: Won't Work With Unibody / Slow Charging Time
Mar 6, 2009
I bought the Macbook Pro last week and noticed that it has some very slow charging times. For an example, today the battery went upto 57% and then I plugged it in to charge. Now it's at 95% AFTER 4 hours.

I have had my mac for a little of year, a few days ago I downloaded a few things. Since then it takes it about 10-15 minutes to start up, even after it starts up it takes a few more minutes for things to work at a regular speed. I have cleared firefox cache and reset the Pram.

I have a macbook according to the "about this mac" section it is a 5.1, its the one when they started making macbooks in metal (I remember this as it was a replacement to the plastic one I had which cracked horribly) My power cable broke and I purchased a 60w magsafe as I was recommended but it will only power the thing but says "not charging" where the battery icon is and if you remove the cable the laptop goes straight off. Do I need the higher w cable? The lady I spoke to on the phone at the local apple store said since it is a metal body it has to be a pro but I know when I bought it is wasn't a pro... thought I've heard rumour they rebranded the model not long after I got mine. so under all that waffle what I would really like to know is which power cable I need? and If it's the one I have do you think it means mine battery has died too?

I have a macbook (A1278 2.4Ghz) that is having power issue.
This macbook will not charge and will not start without battery ( or battery without juice) but once start it works without any problem.
When connect to power source it shows battery "not charging" and change the power source to "power adaptor". (LED is showing very dim green)
The battery indicator is also not working.
Is there a way I can confirm which part is not working, i am looking at battery connector and battery indicator.(maybe magsafe dc-board or maybe logic board.)

I ran that 32/64 bit kernel application and put it back on 32 bit after it booted slow in 64 bit. Otherwise I dunno. Is this this supposed to be so slow?

So perhaps the NVidia compatibility issue affects HDDERASE also? Since when booting from UBCD 4 or 5 it just hangs after selecting it from the menu. All I get is a flashing cursor.

recently my Mac is really slow, slow on startup(took around 1-2hours), and slow on task(more than 5 minutes delayed time on every single task), I don't know what happened to it,
My Mac specs:
1.Mid-2010 27 inch iMac,
2.Original 4g Ram upgraded to 12g
3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.
4.i3 processor
5.Using latest Lion(I think it's 10.7.3)
Problems:
1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour
2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!
What I have done so far:
1.I have reduced the login items
2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login
3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk
4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)
5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.
6.Cleaned the cache
Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.
Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.
I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.

What's the best thing to do with the MBA out of the box? Should I use it and drain the battery to zero or not even turn it on and just charge it?
I want to treat it nicely from day one ...
Also, on the same topic of treating it nicely, do you recommend a screen or keyboard protector? I had a keyboard protector on my PowerBook G4 (iskin). While it kept the keyboard nice and clean, I suppose it didn't give me the best experience I could have had with the keyboard itself. I now realize that I can't really read the keys because the protector is so dirty.

I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro from Best Buy a few months back, it is the 13" unibody with a 2.26 ghz dual core processor and came with 2gb of memory installed. I just bought the two sticks of memory from [URL] which were Kingston DDR3 1066 204-pins, 4gb each. My friend told me that my Macbook Pro will only support up to 6gb, but my manual says that it supports up to 8gb. He also said that people have been having trouble with their motherboards by installing too much (8gb) of memory. I've done some research and looks like I'm good to go, but just want some reassurance before I install the new memory. One last thing, he also told me that 8gb is only supported on the i7 processors?

My Macbook pro is not charging. If I move the cord (specially at the Macbook charging port) it charges. But again if the cord is slightly disturbed then it doesn't charge. The problem got worse as my Mac randomly shuts down (especially when I remove the mag at the Macbook charging port). I dono what to do. Apple care (Genius) is far from my place. There is no visible physical damage on my mag charger. Could anyone suggest what I should do? I checked the battery status in system profiler and it says NORMAL. The details are as follows:

after a lot of thinking I ended up getting a new Aluminum Macbook! First Mac ever, so yay me!Anyway, when I booted into windows the first time I put in the Leopard install disk and everything went fine. When i booted back into windows i noticed "SMBus controller" and "Coproccesser" were not installed correctly. I looked at the Boot Disk DVD, ran "NvidiaChipset.exe", and after a reboot everything was great!
Then I ran window Experience index and my HDD is getting a pathetic score of 2.0. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue and how/if they got it working again.

Just bought a new MBP Unibody and I'm loving it so far. My friend has the one with the single graphics card and he's claiming 6-7 hours of battery life on a single charge with the screen lit a little under half. I set mine the same way and I don't get as much battery life. I have the one with the dual video cards. Is that going to cause the battery to drain faster and if so, can I disable the second video card when I'm not doing intense graphics processing?

Since I just lost my hard drive on my iMac 24 Intel, I am using external hard drive to backup via Time Machine. My question is what procedures are needed when you disconnect ext. hard drive? Do you change Time Machine from ON to OFF?
I know that I have to eject the ext. hard drive using proper commands, but what happens whenever I reinstall the ext. hard drive? Does Time Machine start over from the beginning or just update for changes since my last backup via Time Machine?
When I go on trips, I store ext hard drive in a safe and this is why I am asking.

Ok, so i picked up a 2TB Time Capsule a couple days ago and have tried everything i can think of to get this to work, but im at a loss... I had been previously using Time Machine to backup to an Ext HD attached via USB, and that always went smooth as butter.

I have updated to 10.7.4, and now Time Machine does not work on my Time Capsule. I have erased all backups using the Airport Utility. When I try to run Time Machine, the disk is mounted, files are calculated, backup starts, then stops, and no backup is done. Also, no error messages.

There may be an easy explanation for this, but for someone who is new to Mac's entirely, it's proving to be difficult. I recently acquired a powerbook g4 15" powerpc 1.5ghz with 1gb ram and 80gb hd. I'm a computer technician at work, go figure, but only for pc's. The wireless works flawlessly on the mac at work, t1 connection. When I arrive home, my wireless is so slow and sometimes doesn't even work.
I have comcast cable internet, which is really fast on my desktop and two pc laptops. So with my comcast, I have their issued cable modem and a linksys wireless router. Any thoughts as to why this is so slow? Takes me like, 5 minutes to load facebook. I have Mac OSX 10.5 +, not sure what exact version. I think 10.5.6? I'm not connected to anyone elses internet and my DNS are the same on my PC.

I got my computer yesterday, it's a iBook G4 OS X 10.5.8. The charger worked fine until around six o' clock. Then it wouldn't charge. We switched the power pack and it worked for an hour or so, and then the same thing. What can I do? I CANNOT take it to be fixed.

I have a mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM. I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging." I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have. It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old. It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential. The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening. The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.

My laptop has been having problems track pad doesn't always work, runs slow, freezes. I replaced the hard drive on advice and that didn't help. I went to disk utility and verify and repaired disk permissions, that didn't help. I went to the erase tab and I clicked on "erase free space" thinking that would "defragment" free space, like a PC has.Now all my available memory is gone.I thought I was freeing up space. Now my apps don't work correctly and I can't reinstall because I don't have enough disk space.

I've had my MBP for 3 years (specs below). and recently I've noticed a significant reduction in speed. I can't even play a 720p mkv without the video skipping sometimes frequently. I have plenty of ram and my CPU should be fast enough. I was jsut wondering if macs slow down over time. or could the reduction in speed be due to all the installation of programs and defragmentation and stuff.

I have a 27 inch, mid 2011 imac. I bought it in March. It has started losing its wireless connection. The other issue is when it does connect it is very slow. I have a netgear modem, I dont think this is the issue cause the IPAD, and wireless laptop connect fine. I've also run a speed test, all wireless devices connect to 10Mbps and LAN devices connect up to 30 Mbps including the iMac when it is wired. Could this be an issue with the airport card? How would I know, how do I check? What should I do?

I know that the first one is supposed to take a long time, but can someone let me know what is going on? I have a 2010 Mac Mini that I have upgraded to 8GB of RAM. I am running the OS off a LaCie 1 TB external running it through FW800. Everything is running well. I just picked up a WD My Book Studio Edition II 2 TB FW800 drive to use as additional storage (partition 1) and Time Machine (partition 2). I have daisy chained the FW drives.
I set my Time Machine up to backup about 400 GB of files from one FW drive to the other. At the same time I am copying over about another 400 GB of files from the OS drive to the partition 1 extra storage portion of the new drive. The 400 GB of copying is taking about 3 hours. That seems OK to me. The Time Machine backup is much slower. I have had it running for about an hour+, and it finished 400 MB of 400 GB. Not that math is my strong suit, but that is on pace to finish my Time Machine backup in 33 days.

My Mac Pro (2008, 8-core, 10GB, 2x1TB RAID 0) system takes a long time to shutdown or restart. Typically over a minute. I didn't think this was so bad (though I think when I first got the system is shutdown must more quickly) until I got a MacBook and it shuts down in around 10 seconds. I was wondering if the slow shutdown time on the Mac Pro is normal and whether there is any way I could see what its doing while shutting down. It just sits there at the shutdown screen with the twirling icon and I'd prefer to see some messages or status so I know what is going on.
