The same author made one for zip files and it works fine. Just can't get this one to do anything.
I've upgraded two computers to Snow Leopard and the one issue I'm having is .doc files, .xls files, and PDF files, the icon does not show the file when in column view. When I'm in icon view, cover flow, or even on the desktop, I can see the the thumbnails of the file just fine, but in column view, it does not work. This did work in Leopard. I should point out that the bug does not happen for movie files in column view, just mainly .doc files.
I've tried restarting, and this is happening on a Mac Pro early 2008 and on a MacBook Pro, early 2008.
I been trying to quicklook files without extension that are plain text, like make files. I had found some really useful website likes this one (URL) but it seems I always need to declare a extension.
So I would like to know if someone knows how to quicklook text files without extension.
Just upgraded from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.8.... QL works really nice, but now my JPG files wont show a preview, even when performing a regular Get-Info. I'm also using SneekPreview Pro to enhance QL, but the other one, SneakPeekPhoto I had to uninstall, 'cause it was causing my Finder to quit unexpectedly.

For some reason on my i7 iMac I've lost the ability to play audio from Mini Displayport devices like my MacBook Pro/PS3/360 etc when they're connected. It was working up till a few days ago. Regular sound from the iMac works great.
I did a fresh install on an external drive of SL 10.6.2, and audio then works fine over Displayport IN. So, clearly some files changed on 10.6.4/10.6.5, and I'm trying to find out what those files are. I'd rather not have to reinstall my OS for this seemingly minor issue...!
I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro (early 2008). I installed Lion back earlier this year so I could use the iBooks application. Big mistake. Since then my wifi connection constantly drops out. I've roamed these forums and tried just about everything suggested. I would now like to go back to the Snow Leopard software I had installed before.
The problem is the last Time Machine update I ran was on Lion (I know *face palm*). If I were to completely erase my hard drive, install the Snow Leopard DVD, then install the Snow Leopard update, would I still be able to use some of the files from my Lion Time Machine back up? My biggest concerns are my music purchases on the iTunes store and Microsoft Word documents....

I have a pdf file, I want to copy certain pages from to a new file and rename the pages afterwards.
This is the awkward behavier, preview.app gives me, trying to do so:
It does not let me create a new pdf out of the program (command + N or file/new file) - why?
Instead, I have to drag one of the pages I want on the desktop, to create a new pdf file there.
Once I created a new pdf and dragged the wanted pages into my new file, I cannot rename the pages, which have now meaningless names including "(dragged)" in the middle. I have found no logical way, to rename these pages - why?
Do not ever plan, to save time in just selecting more than one page, to drag and copy over to your new pdf - you will end up with an alias in your sidebar of the new pdf file, which of no reason making sense to me is undeletable - which means - start over again!
Is there any way to use Quicklook from within Spotlight search results? I'd like to be able to do a Spotlight search and hit the space bar for a quick Quicklook look before actually launching the program.
I'm guessing this isn't possible, since hitting the space bar only inserts a space in the Spotlight search box, but thought I'd ask.
currently when I use quicklook on avi movies it does not display the video, it does however work when i open the video in quicktime. an upgrade or program that will fix this?

I've been looking on the web the last week but can't find anything.
I realized recently that ODT files (whether they're from NeoOffice or TextEdit) weren't working in QuickLook for me, but they're supposed to. I tried making a new temporary account on my MacBook (same computer) to test it, and while in that account, I can QuickLook any .odt. I should also note that .odt's in the Finder on my main account have a plain document icon, but when I'm in the temporary account they show the .odt icon. It's possible I accidentally recklessly deleted some file or something I shouldn't have when I was uninstalling NeoOffice or something, and if someone knew where the applicable file is supposed to be, I could copy it from the temp account to my main account.

Can I prevent the finder from previewing large files?

I recorded in GarageBand and imported the files to iTunes and then into my presentation. The slideshow works on my computer, but once I try to play it on any other computer (both Mac and PC) the audio files are "unavailable" and don't play. What do I need to do so that the files can play?

When I press the space bar, the box spins for a second and then only an image appears previewing the video. At the top right all it says is "Open in Quicktime."

Now it gives me a slide sorter and I have to click on each slide to move on in the presentation! I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music.
The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.
Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.
Wanting to update my operating system. running 10.4 now need to update to 10.6.3. Do I need to update to Leopard before snow leopard will work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe option to 'play stereo audio as mono' that comes with OSX 10.6 does not work as I expected.When I enable this option it sounds like only one of the two channels becomes mono, while the other one does not sound mono to me.It's hard to notice this, because the total sound does change to 'less' stereo. I've done some testing with different soundcards and testing signals, and found out that when the option is enabled, the mono signals are routed incorrect.While the right channel becomes mono, the left channel seems to be something else; I'm not sure if it's the original left channel of the stereo signal, though. I have reason to believe that the resulting mono sound on the right channel correctly is the 'monofied original sound', but that from the left channel.The resulting mono sound on the left channel sounds like the original left channel of the stereo sound, maybe added with the mono sound of the right channel.Â
Why do I think so? When using a sound card with more than two outputs, I can clearly see that sound is being sent to the second and the THIRD output, instead of the first and the second output, immediately after I enable mono. Resulting in output on THREE channels:original leftmonofied (left) monofied (right)Â On my soundcard I can disable the extra outputs, and than I hear:original left + maybe monofied rightmonofied (left)Â I think the programmer of this great feature made an 'off-by-one error', consequently sending the monified output to the wrong channels;to channel[1] + channel[2] instead of channel[0] + channel[1]Â I don't know what happens to sound that is sent to channel[2] (the third channel) on a two channel soundcard.It could be mapped to the the first channel, but that of course is speculation. I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.
