OS X :: Why Does The Backlight For The Keys On System Keep Going Off
Mar 17, 2010It keeps randomly going off and on even in the middle of me typing. Why does it do that, and how can I change it?

View 4 RepliesiTunes is playing and I hit the play/pause key (F8) the entire keyboard will go dark, but only if I'm pausing. it doesn't do it when I'm hitting the button to resume a song, only when I'm using it to pause one. the backlight sometimes takes minutes to come back on, at random, and sometimes it doesn't and I just have to turn it back on myself.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen you want to raise or lower the volume, as you raise or lower them, the accompanying volume that you're setting it to should raise and lower as you go along. Well, I've noticed that this hasn't been happening lately and some of my other sounds have disappeared too, such as in ichat, the sent message and received message sounds aren't occurring even though the settings are set for them to happen. Anyone else experienced this before? I just want to know how I can get my volume keys to work again so that I can hear them as I raise and lower the volume even if there's no sound coming
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a 2.4 MBP model a1260. When I got home i noticed the volume keys were not working, and then i noticed none of the function keys were working properly. (example, f12 shows an eject CD symbol). So, the keys are working but not doing the standard functions such as volume and brightness.
I have check and unchecked (and restarted) the "use all f1, f2 as standard function keys" to no result.
Some other wierd things that seem to be related are:
1. In the SOUND window in SYS PREFS all sound effects are greyed out. Under OUTPUT and INPUT it says no devices found.
2. When i go to the itunes store in itunes and i double click on a song, it wont play. Not only is there no volume, but song wont play. Its the same with my own music from my cds.
3. When i insert a DVD no volume control shows up.
And the last superwierd thing (haha) is that I reloaded leopard and when the computer restarted up after install there was no OSX music that normally plays as the video flys thru the starfield.
Headphones have no audio either.Sorry so long. The computer has no warranty of course.
Whenever I assign shortcut keys to Spaces using the Expose' & Spaces panel in System Preferences, it seems that in a day or two the shortcut keys no longer work and System Preferences shows them as being unassigned. I thought there may be a conflict with another shortcut but there isn't - at least according to the Keyboard & Mouse panel in System Preferences. This happens on both my MBP and my iMac as well as on the PowerMac I recently sold. I've tried other keys and combinations but with the same results. I've also experienced this in all versions of Leopard including the current 10.5.7. I'm using F8 to activate Spaces, Command + Option + Arrow key to switch between Spaces and Command + Option + Number key to switch directly to a Space. Has anyone else experienced this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.

I kept my macbook (late 2008) turned on overnight on lowest brightness and when I tried turning the brightness back on this morning, the backlight flashed on for less than a second and then turned off again. Somehow I managed to get it to work, but whenever I move my macbook even slightly the problem reoccurs. I've done some research on my problem and I suspect that it's hardware related (maybe the inverter or the inverter cable?), but maybe the LCD itself is broken? Does anyone else have any experience with this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iBook G4 is out of warranty and the backlight goes out. Sometimes its seconds, sometimes minutes, sometimes days. Its really annoying because besides that, the computer works perfectly. I want to take it apart and see if theres anything I can do to it (is there?) I know its risky, but I am willing to do it, so don't tell me anything about the risk involved. I would just like to know if its possible (thinking it might be a loose wire or something?) and if it is possible, does anyone have any tips or point me to a good tutorial on how to do this? I just really want to get this fixed, especially with Leopard 6 days and 6 hours away (and 45 minutes and 30 seconds).
View 21 Replies View RelatedI have a 2.2 Santa Rosa 15" MBP, and an odd thing happened last night. I wasn't running any unusual applications, and had a few things open and was browsing in Firefox. All of a sudden my screen went black, and wouldn't come back up.
The computer is still running just fine, and it didn't go to sleep. The LED backlight is fine, as the Apple logo is lit up and if I change the brightness I can see the backlight changing (the "black" screen gets less "black", if that makes sense), however the actual display panel isn't projecting any picture at all.
I've restarted a dozen times, reset PRAM, and did the unplug battery and hold power button trick, all to no avail. There's no flicker of a picture or anything... it's as if the monitor is completely dead (aside from the backlight being fine).
If I plug in an external monitor, I can use the computer just fine. So it's not like the video card is dead all the way.
I know that the base 2.0GHz MacBooks do not feature the backlit keyboards of the higher-end models, but I was wondering if the actual backlight is physically in these lower-end models and just disabled in firmware or software? Or is it missing entirely?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using firefox today (all I had open was facebook and gmail) and iCal was open in another space. All of the sudden my macbook screen went black, but the backlight was still on and the music was playing. I hit the space bar a few times and moved around the mouse and the screen came on for a second or 2, but then went black again. It wouldn't come back, so I had to hold down the power button. When it restarted, everything was normal, except that now the fan is going fast and loud, and my computer is getting hot with only firefox open to macrumors.

the only issue i am having is with the keyboard back lights; they wont go on. I read apples help diy thing and followed the 2 or 3 directions they gave me and still no luck.
i know this problem is amazingly simple but i used a PC for the last 15 years so i'm overlooking something.
the light on my 15" display has grown dimmer; is that something that is correctable?

After the system update why won't my keyboard backlight wont shut down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got one of the aluminum MB Pros and had to install Windows XP on it.
What I find annyoing is that I can't turn the keyboard backlight off: The F8-key (as suggested by Apple's support) nor the way it works under Mac OS (dimming completely by pushing F5, turinung it off with the next key press) do the trick for me.
I own a MacBook Pro 5.1 (late 2008) and since a couple of hours my keyboard backlight suddenly turned off and I can't reactivate it anymore. When pressing the corresponding buttons which regulate the intensity of the backlight I get only the backlight icon on screen with a not available button attached to the lower corner. Is anyone familiar with this problem by chance? This happens under both OS X as well as Windows XP.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro (Newest gen.) and sometimes the keyboard backlight wont turn on. I suspect it to happen when I have had the Macbook on standby, but I don't know for sure if that is what does it.
Then i press the backlight-adjust buttons on the keyboard, this OSD-symbol turns up: http://peecee.dk/uploads/122010/Scre..._big_thumb.png
The backlight on my MacBook went out suddenly today, no idea why. Is there some way to replace it without having to replace the entire display assembly? It is very difficult to get the assembly apart, but I will be on break from school and will have plenty of free time to fix it if it will save me a few hundred bucks. So is it possible to replace the backlight only, or is it a part of the lcd panel?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI read on the internet that this is probably caused by lightbult or inverter board, but that information was on macbook or macbook pro, i couldn't find any information if its the same issue with macbook airs.. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 White body model Macbook with 2 gigs of ram and 2.1 core duo processor. My problem is that the screen won't turn on...when I start up my computer it lights up for a second, but turns off before the apple sign shows up. If I look really close I can see everything. Oddly enough, if I press the brightness button so to decrease the brightness to the very last bar and then hit the f2 button to turn up the brightness by one, the light will turn on for a few seconds, if i continually go back and forth, I can sort of use it enough to do something with it (thank god because I had all my work for school on it). I have included a link with this thread so you can see what I mean.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt full brightness the flickering is barely noticeable unless you really tried to look hard for it but you can also see it on website backgrounds with lots of lines, such as the left sidebar on [URL] Also, when the backlight dims after being left alone, the backlight flickers for a couple of minutes and then disappears. I have had this macbook for a bit more than 2 weeks. Should I send it in for a repair/replacement?
