View 2 RepliesWhere do you sit on the whole Genie Effect vs Scale Effect war that's been raging for the last 8 years? Whilst the Genie wowed me the first time I saw it, I chose Scale Effect pretty much as soon as I got OSX, preferring performance over prettiness. Now, years later, when I occasionally catch it on other peeps machines I think it just looks... tacky. I wonder how many people on here still have it switched on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a spare Mac I'm setting up in the living room as an HTPC (Plex is VERY cool, BTW). But I can't figure out how to scale everything really big so it's visible 10 feet away. I've got 128 px icons, check. 16 px is as big as the text will go. But all the menus are regular size. This was easy to do in Windows - can it be as easy in Snow Leopard?

I don't know it this possible but the thumbnails in leopard are too small even on the max but I noticed that when you do a search for photos in thumbnail mode you can scale it to a very large size. Do you know how do imake the thumbnails looks bigger in finder while normal browsing not searching?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNew to safari. How does one scale text and images concurrently? I only seem to be able to scale text for the moment. I know this can be done in Mozilla. Can it not be done on Safari? I could of sworn it was possible on the display models in the Apple Store.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I'm reading an article and one of the new features it touts for Snow Leopard is. Trackpad gestures for all. Snow Leopard lets all Macs with gesture-capable trackpads use the entire set of gestures. Before, older MacBooks were limited to one- and two-finger gestures. So I got to thinking, are there any third party USB multi-touch 'gesture-capable' trackpads one can buy for the Mac Pro? I have a brand new MBP and LOVE the huge track pad (wouldn't mind it larger - on the left side of my Mac Pro keyboard!) and the gestures and miss it when I'm on my Mac Pro. I'm on my third Mighty Mouse (they get gunked up beyond repair - the ball goes bad - might be dust in India, not sure but tried all the rolling and upside down rubbing alcohol and everything) which is pretty slick and responsive, but still, I can't wait till the if/when Apple launches a multi-touch pad for their desktops. Is there any other option?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a second-hand Macbook Pro to handle e-mails and browsing at a holiday place, replacing an older notebook running 10.4.
Each day for years I have printed a puzzle from the NY Times and scale it to a preferred size by the sequence <<command-print / page set-up / scale / enter>> then print>> in the Print panel. 10.6.8 does not scale the page; it prints at 100%.
I have seen the discussion recommending "tab out of the Scale box" and tried it but entering <<tab>> has no effect.

Since I am a very hardcore gamer, I need to be able to travel to LANs with something light so i gave the a try, WOW this little thing can do a lot. I'm only having one tiny bit problem, I don't know how to play my games on 4:3(blackbars)and i CAN NOT game on widescreen(16:9 16:10) because its soo weird and I have the late 08 version with ATI 2600 XT. My question is how do i change the screen scaling on windows.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi am constantly having a problem when i try and print a smallish image with Preview /automatically/ checking the Scale to Fit Paper Size and when i /uncheck/ this by clicking in the "Scale" radio button it /automatically/ enters the percent scale factor that would be required if I wanted to scale to fit to paper (e.g. 184%). Since I /don't/ want this scale (I already unchecked this option) I MANUALLY enter "100" in this box and - well - it prints out scale to fit to paper size /anyway/. i am using the Print Selected Image but the Print option behaves in the same way. Also, Auto Rotate (which defaults to AutoRotate with no option - "bad Preview, bad") has no effect on this. i have taken to pulling down to four or nine images to a page in order to get my images printed smaller, even though they never print out at 100%.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to set the default print settings to grayscale like you can on a Windows computer?I have an HP Photosmart B210E, but the only way to print grayscale all the time is to be sure to set it on File/Print's dialog or replace my printer with a Grayscale only one.

I draw alot of car graphic designs, the eps's of the outlines are drawn to scale, but illustrator wont open them. I think this due to car outlines being 1:1 scale. Is there anyway to open a eps where the artwork is bigger than the artboard (if the artboard is set to max, if there is a max?) in illustrator?
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I hit the print button on my Mac (I have an HP PSC 1210 all-in-one printer) the document prints at 10%. I know, I have to go into page set up and when i do that, the scale is always at 10% so I have to change the scale to 100%.why is it not automatically set at 100% anymore? And how can I make the print scale default to 100% so I don't have to go into page set up everytime I want to print?

I cannot get a good grayscale in my Mavericks to send to a printer. I have to copy it and use my older iMac with 10.6 - which does it easily and quickly. Not impressed with present Preview.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to print, there isn't a grayscale option, just black and white. It wastes too much black ink in black and white mode, and there used to be a grayscale option.

I has made a Automator app that make jpeg images to a pdf.For decrease pdf file size, I added automator task "Scale Images" and set "To Size (pixels)" to "960".
Then run Automator, the task seemed to be proceeding smoothly until 180 files.
But the task has not finished after ten minutes. The status icon was still in process "Scale Images (5/6)".
I stopped the app and try again. I have the same result. Nothing changed with the 181th jpeg file in Finder. Does "Scale Images" has limitation less than 180 files?

Now I have these settings with coolbook:
But there is just no difference in temperature or fan speed. Now iTunes, Firefox, Adium and Coolbook are open but as soon as I start to load some Webpages (Engadget, Spiegel.de, etc...) the fan runs a lot faster and thy CPU has about 55C.
I have a Mac Pro and two video cards, and am upping the setup to a new Nehalem Mac Pro with the ATI 4780 card + NVidia GT120 card. For illustration purposes, I will use those two cards to frame my question, as we seem to be pretty familiar with their specs by now. My question is somewhat conceptual, and is difficult to explain, but I am counting on the MR collective intelligence to sort it out! I'll use a few scenarios to illustrate my point: Scenario 1: Heavy use of the 4870 card, using both outputs (two screens). Naturally, performance is better than using the GT120 card.
Scenario 2: Same heavy use, but this time one port from the 4870 is used, and one port from the GT120.
Scenario 3: Same heavy use, but both ports on the 4870 are used, and one port on the GT120 (three screens total)
Scenario 3: Same heavy use, but both ports on the GT120 are used, and one port on the 4870 (three screens total)
How do software applications deal with two video cards? Would running Aperture, FCP, gaming etc., degrade just one screen? Wouldn't the whole application have to slow down to accommodate the lesser card? Is there a "primary" card and a "secondary" card designation? I'm thinking of multiple monitor setups (three, for example) where a lesser card is necessary to drive the extra screen, but the application is using all three.
I sent some fairly big files back on the 11th Aug via mac mail which uses sky mail. Ever since that sate this application just hangs now and it drains all my bandwidth (i don't appear to be getting any mail) so i have to shut it down. Is there any way of resetting it in effect.

Right Click on Dock icon. Show Package Contents.
Then open Contents and then Resources. View from Menubar on top. View as list. Then click kind on top of window and view by file type. Select all the .png files. Right click and say Move to Trash.
Restart the computer and see it. If I remove the 3d effect it looks ugly. But with 3d dock on it looks cool. Almost blending in like there is no dock at all.

p1 and p2 are blue background and p3 and p4 are X logo. But as in p2 and p4 if I open Safari I get a small shadow. And it goes away if I minimize or quit safari. Still not bad.
Or this is the normal look with 3d and all the files in tact before I edited anything.

But I can't decide which looks cooler. With or without dock.
I've been considering buying a MBP for a while now but have ultimately decided to wait until the next refresh, which i presume will be in time for christmas or very early 2010?Reason being I was bought a 24" iMac for my birthday in August and am obviously about to be slightly stung by the updated version of the all in one being released a mere 2 months or so later, so decided to wait till the next MBP update before buying my first notebook to maximize its longevity (hopefully). My question though is, as MBP and iMac specs are currently relatively similar and both are considered the slightly more high end "everyday consumer option" (low end being MacBook and Mac Mini)...Could the spec of the updated iMac be all but the same as the new MBP when they are released? i know we as consumers can never "know" but it could be logical to assume if iMac's get quad core and blu-ray then MBP could be in for similar treatment.
