Mac Pro :: SL Brings Full Scale Trackpad Functionality
Aug 25, 2009
So I'm reading an article and one of the new features it touts for Snow Leopard is. Trackpad gestures for all. Snow Leopard lets all Macs with gesture-capable trackpads use the entire set of gestures. Before, older MacBooks were limited to one- and two-finger gestures. So I got to thinking, are there any third party USB multi-touch 'gesture-capable' trackpads one can buy for the Mac Pro? I have a brand new MBP and LOVE the huge track pad (wouldn't mind it larger - on the left side of my Mac Pro keyboard!) and the gestures and miss it when I'm on my Mac Pro. I'm on my third Mighty Mouse (they get gunked up beyond repair - the ball goes bad - might be dust in India, not sure but tried all the rolling and upside down rubbing alcohol and everything) which is pretty slick and responsive, but still, I can't wait till the if/when Apple launches a multi-touch pad for their desktops. Is there any other option?
I'm working on a software project to turn the bottom 1/3 of the magic trackpad into a keyboard. The idea is that you print the layout of the iPhone keyboard onto an overhead transparency sheet or an invisibleshield sticker and stick it to the trackpad, and then a software app renders the keyboard on screen and generates keystrokes for the correct buttons. I should add that you don't have to stick anything to the trackpad if you don't want to, but it makes it a lot easier to use.
I have this semi-working right now. Is this something that anyone here would be interested in trying in a few days or a week when it's working better?
I'm trying to print from a full-size, 30x42 pdf of an AutoCAD file. I only want to print an 8 1/2 x 11 portion, in scale. How do I select the window and print in scale on my 8 1/2 x 11 printer (Brother MFC-9340CDW)?
I have a 15" MacBook Pro with a 20" ACD. Whenever I full screen view something, like say with VLC or even a web browser video, I lose functionality on the other screen. It never really bothered me until I realized I needed the multi-tasking. Is there anyway to keep functionality on either screen when the other is in fullscreen mode?
Running leopard, for some reason, whenever I right click, the application switcher pops up (just as it would if i pressed command+tab). I've rebooted my machine and it still happens.
After Update Lion to 10.7.4, I can't assign specific document-windows of Word to different spaces.Previously, I was able to do that without any problem. I use this feature very much... any ideas how to solve it?
I can assign different apps to differents spaces, as well a different windows form de same app (like Text Edit, Excel also!) but not from Word. I have already try restarting but didn't work....
Last couple of days my emac monitor will just shut down and go black, just like an old TV tube packing up used to. It won't return on restart, but did return a couple of times after I took out mains lead from side of computer, let it rest, then tried again. However, today, this solution didn't work, but a tap to the side of the computer did get the screen going. I've read a number of different possible explanations for what might be the problem - everything from battery, to airport card to it's terminally ill, get a new computer, so don't really know what to do. Don't want to go and buy a new computer if all I really needed to do was change the battery.
All of a sudden, holding down the Command key for more than a second or two (e.g., in preparation for using Command+W) brings up a Universal Access dialogue screen which fills the monitor. I have not used Universal Access, I checked the settings, and I see nothing seems to be "On".

Not sure what I have done, but now, whenever I hold shift and click my mouse the screen brings up all my open windows (Expose?). How can I turn this off. I use Shift Click to highlight large amounts of text and Excel rows etc.
Apple on Tuesday released the next major update to its photo editing and management software, with Aperture 3 sporting over 200 new features, including Faces, Places and Brushes for $199 new, or $99 to upgrade. Expanding on the Faces and Places features first introduced in iPhoto '09, Aperture 3 is said to make it easier and faster for users to organize large photo libraries. An exhaustive list of the many new features is available on Apple's Web site. "Millions of people love using iPhoto to organize, edit and share their digital photos," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Aperture 3 is designed for both professionals who edit and manage massive libraries of photos and iPhoto users who want to take their photos further with easy-to-use tools such as Brushes and Adjustment Presets." Aperture 3 introduces new tools to refine photos, including Brushes for painting image adjustments onto parts of a photo, and Adjustment Presets for applying professional photo effects with just one click. New slideshows let users share their work by weaving together photos, audio, text and HD video.......
I've got a spare Mac I'm setting up in the living room as an HTPC (Plex is VERY cool, BTW). But I can't figure out how to scale everything really big so it's visible 10 feet away. I've got 128 px icons, check. 16 px is as big as the text will go. But all the menus are regular size. This was easy to do in Windows - can it be as easy in Snow Leopard?
I have an HP deskjet 3054. My husband's setting are fine with 100% and prints fine. Mine printer setting comes up at 200%. I have to manually change the percentage to 100% but it always reverts back to 200%. How can I make that change permanent?
I don't know it this possible but the thumbnails in leopard are too small even on the max but I noticed that when you do a search for photos in thumbnail mode you can scale it to a very large size. Do you know how do imake the thumbnails looks bigger in finder while normal browsing not searching?
New to safari. How does one scale text and images concurrently? I only seem to be able to scale text for the moment. I know this can be done in Mozilla. Can it not be done on Safari? I could of sworn it was possible on the display models in the Apple Store.
I just bought a second-hand Macbook Pro to handle e-mails and browsing at a holiday place, replacing an older notebook running 10.4.
Each day for years I have printed a puzzle from the NY Times and scale it to a preferred size by the sequence <<command-print / page set-up / scale / enter>> then print>> in the Print panel. 10.6.8 does not scale the page; it prints at 100%.
I have seen the discussion recommending "tab out of the Scale box" and tried it but entering <<tab>> has no effect.
Since I am a very hardcore gamer, I need to be able to travel to LANs with something light so i gave the a try, WOW this little thing can do a lot. I'm only having one tiny bit problem, I don't know how to play my games on 4:3(blackbars)and i CAN NOT game on widescreen(16:9 16:10) because its soo weird and I have the late 08 version with ATI 2600 XT. My question is how do i change the screen scaling on windows.
i am constantly having a problem when i try and print a smallish image with Preview /automatically/ checking the Scale to Fit Paper Size and when i /uncheck/ this by clicking in the "Scale" radio button it /automatically/ enters the percent scale factor that would be required if I wanted to scale to fit to paper (e.g. 184%). Since I /don't/ want this scale (I already unchecked this option) I MANUALLY enter "100" in this box and - well - it prints out scale to fit to paper size /anyway/. i am using the Print Selected Image but the Print option behaves in the same way. Also, Auto Rotate (which defaults to AutoRotate with no option - "bad Preview, bad") has no effect on this. i have taken to pulling down to four or nine images to a page in order to get my images printed smaller, even though they never print out at 100%.
Is there a way to set the default print settings to grayscale like you can on a Windows computer?I have an HP Photosmart B210E, but the only way to print grayscale all the time is to be sure to set it on File/Print's dialog or replace my printer with a Grayscale only one.
I draw alot of car graphic designs, the eps's of the outlines are drawn to scale, but illustrator wont open them. I think this due to car outlines being 1:1 scale. Is there anyway to open a eps where the artwork is bigger than the artboard (if the artboard is set to max, if there is a max?) in illustrator?
Every time I hit the print button on my Mac (I have an HP PSC 1210 all-in-one printer) the document prints at 10%. I know, I have to go into page set up and when i do that, the scale is always at 10% so I have to change the scale to 100%.why is it not automatically set at 100% anymore? And how can I make the print scale default to 100% so I don't have to go into page set up everytime I want to print?
Since I switched to the new operating system, my Grab selections are not printing to the correct scale. They are printing too wide, so instead of one page the selection is printing on two.
I cannot get a good grayscale in my Mavericks to send to a printer. I have to copy it and use my older iMac with 10.6 - which does it easily and quickly. Not impressed with present Preview.
When I go to print, there isn't a grayscale option, just black and white. It wastes too much black ink in black and white mode, and there used to be a grayscale option.

I am trying to down convert a large avi file to smaller scale using mpeg streamclip, however, I am getting no audio at all when i drop in any clip. When I click play in the preview window it shows no audio at all.
I've been looking around for an enhancement to iCal - a menubar item that would display upcoming schedule items, and allow you to add things to your iCal schedule without having to open iCal each time.I remember that classic app, Claris something-or-other, that could sync with a Newton, was designed like that.anyway, has anyone heard of something like this to extend functionality of iCal in this way? Preferably OS 10.4 compatible, as I don't have 10.5.
Is it possible to add functionality to the Quickview feature in leopard so that I can view more image file formats like IFF, OpenEXF etc...? I assume it's linked to the Preview application so if that can view them then QuickView should be able to too?
I've been hearing a lot about macbooks overheating, and was just wondering what are the ramifications of it overheating? Does it act slower, or over time does over heating lead to long term defects or something? Are there sings I should look for or something I should do if I sense my mac getting really hot?
