OS X :: Using Fan Control Program - No Support For MacBook?

Jul 29, 2009

I recently felt that my Macbook started to give out a lot of heat, so I decided to fix the problem. I downloaded the CoreDuoTemp to check my temperature, and it was at 63 degrees celsuis. Then, I downloaded the SMCFanControl, but it said it did not support my comp, so then I downloaded the Fan Control. I successfully installed it, but it shows no sign of the program anywhere on my comp. What do I do to open the program? All I have is the .dmg file. Also, what do I do with the source codes?

OS X :: Game Keeps Crashing And Overheating - No Fan Control Program Works Mbp?

Nov 22, 2010

My Sims 3 game keeps crashing and I read that overheating might be the cause and that getting a fan controller may solve the problem. I have a 2010 model 15" aluminum mbp, 2.66ghz, 4gb ram, running 10.6.5. For some reason, none of the fan controllers (smcFanControl, Fan Control, iCyclone) I've been able to find will work. smcFanControl at least installed and opened but changing the fans rpms didnt do anything (edit... reinstalled, it revs the fans for a second then goes right back down). Fan Control seemed promising but after it "successfully installed", it was nowhere to be found. After that, I reset my smc cause it said i may have to after installing these and tried iCyclone but upon opening stated wasn't supported by my computer so that was a bust.

Windows On Mac :: Program Not Running On Bootcamp - This Program Cannot Run On A Computer With Less Than 64 Megabytes Of Ram

Aug 24, 2009

I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.

I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.

The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.

The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."

Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.

My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.

MacBook Pro :: Using My MBP To Control My IMac?

Oct 17, 2010

Now, obviously I can use VNC, and I do...but let me explain.

I'm back at university this year and I've brought my iMac with me as well as my MacBook Pro. I have my MBP on one side of my desk and the iMac next to it. What I'd like to be able to do is move my mouse (using my MBP) onto the iMac screen and control it and use my MBP keyboard to enter data into it. I've tried Screenrecycler which allows me to use the iMac as a secondary screen to my MBP but the lag just isn't good enough to work with on a daily basis. I want the iMac to be it's own machine doing it's own thing, just using the input of my MBP.

MacBook :: Did Smc Fan Control Mess Up Fan?

Apr 27, 2009

I noticed that my macbook was getting getting very hot every now and then, so I installed smcFanControl, and set it up, so that it would run at 1800 when it was on battery power, 2400 when it was plugged in, and 3500 for when i was making heavy use of it.Now, two days later, im hearing this weird sound when ever the fan reaches 1900rpm, and im really worried that i might have screwed up the fan. The macbook its only 2 months old, so the fan is practically new.

MacBook :: Fan Control - Why Always +100 RPM From Setting

May 23, 2009

The actual Base Speed that results is always 100 RPM higher than the Base Speed I set in Fan Control. Now, this isn't hard to workaround, but I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing such behavior.I like to keep the MB at around 1200 RPM when I am on battery power in the cafe. It saves a lot of power, and there is a negligible increase in temperature (on the order of 3-5 degrees F), and Fan Control has been great for that.

MacBook Pro :: Using Lubbos Fan Control And Hot MBP?

Jul 31, 2010

New to the forum but had a good lurk before I bought my new MBP.

I have had it for around 10 days and it is an awesome bit of kit. I have it set up running bootcamp with Windows 7 32bit on the Bootcamp drive and Mac OS on the other partition.

I noticed that it has been running very warm - almost burn your hand on the back left hand side of the unit but only seems to get veruy hot in Winodws - under Mac OS the fans seem a little more active.

After a good search on the web I installed Lubbo's Fan Control.

I up'd the min fan speed from 2000 to 2500rpm but since installing the program my fans seem much more active. I have dropped the min rpm back down to 2000 but they still seem way more active.

MBP is currently running at 58c or 136f - does this seem hot?

Applications :: Unable To Find Backup Program / Customizable Program For Backup?

May 28, 2009

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.

I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.

Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]

So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.

MacBook Pro :: Fan Control Reports Only One Fan To Be Spinning

Sep 8, 2009

Right, so i got my 13" MBP yesterday and downloaded Fan Control, when i opened it, it showed me that only the left fan was spinning and that the right fan was spinning at -1RPM (i'm taking that as meaning that its not spinning rather that its spinning backwards). Upon seeing this, i ran the Apple Hardware Test that comes on the OS install disks, i ran the short test and nothing was found, so i ran the more in depth test. Seeing that it was going to take a while i went for a shower, as i came back upstair i was greeted by the smell of burning! I realised it was coming from my Macbook Pro and did a hard shut down to try to prevent any/anymore damage. (It was also very hot). I dont want a broken laptop the day after recieving it!
