MacBook :: ITunes Library Out Of Control
Nov 18, 2010
Total count is 729GB but that includes, everything in iTunes, Games, Apps, Music, Video, Movies, TV Shows, etc. How does everyone manage this, because right now I have everything on one external hard drive, but it is getting hard to manage. I just ordered a MBA 13" with the 256GB but I think I am only going to transfer stuff I watch listen to and use each day. I seem to spend hours fighting this thing each week, and just when I thought I was organized I find something else. How is everyone managing theirs?

My iTunes library has apparently filled my entire iMac (according to the computer I have over 97 days' worth of music). I would like to know 1) how to properly save my iTunes library to an external hard drive and 2) how to use iTunes so that it uses the library on the external drive.

I have foolishly allowed a Library to build up on my boot disk and wish to move it to an external.
I know I can shutdown FCP X and copy it across manually but I would like to use the "Move Library" control in the File Menu.
For some reason it's greyed out in spite of me selecting the Library.
Info:
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

I am looking for a remote control, mostly to control itunes running on my mba from anywhere in the room. I saw that apple had a remote, but is IR based, and Belkin offered on in the Apple store, but it uses up the one free USB port (not ideal).

It appears that the function keys to control iTunes/Quicktime (FF, Play/Pause, and RW) are not working. At one point they did but now it doesn't. All the other function keys are functioning just fine and dandy. I have the "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" unchecked in the preferences. I looked around and there doesn't seem to be any setting that would explain the sudden malfunctioning of the keys. Is there something I may have missed?

Hopefully someone will have the answer as I have searched high and low on this one. I have moved ALL my iTunes content (music, videos etc) to the Shared Music folder on my new WD MyBook World Edition 2 (just in case that's relevant info) and everytime my Mac attempts to load iTunes I have to repeatedly direct it to the library.xml file in the Shared Music folder.Surely there's a proper solution for this? Anyone else out there had this experience and has figured it out.I've noticed that it does this only the first time I open iTunes up, any subsequent bootup within a session is fine, but any restart of my Macbook Pro and I have to repeat this.

i really need to disable the remote control so it would not work with itunes only! i have another program playing music and when i press play (or whatever) on my remote it also 'tells' itunes to start playing (or whatever). i just need to do something to disable the remote control for itunes only (well, and maybe for quicktime as well, cause to be honest, i just want it to work with one app only) can i do that ?

I have plugged a Windows XP notebook into my home stereo, installed iTunes on it and have it streaming music from my other Windows XP box upstairs. Everything works perfectly. What I'd like is a suggestion on a make/model remote control (you know, like the tv remote you use every day) that will allow me to do simple operations in iTunes like Next Song, Back, etc.
I have the Apple Mac Mini remote control but it, by default, will not talk to my Windows hardware because there is no Infrared Port (as far as I know). It's not the easiest thing to google. I would assume I could find a Remote Control package that includes the Remote, an Infrared Receiver (that plugs in via USB), and some baseline software for under $30 somewhere.
It needs to be a USB port because I do not have an RS232 jack on my laptop (Dell Mini9). On a side note, I have to say, this setup I created is THE BEST way to stream iTunes music down to my stereo. I have tried numerous products for the past 10 years ranging from Tivo to Logitech's Squeezebox2 and nothing compares to simply 2 computers sharing iTunes. I got the Dell Mini9 for $302 to my door!

MacBook,2,1 with iTune 9:
When I import a CD , the songs get scattered all over the Library. It did not used to be the case. Now if I want to make another copy of the disc, I need to make a new folder then drag all the songs from all over the place in ones and twos from the Library.
Why is this order of songs disturbed?
Is there a way to order the Library so that a CD remains in one place ?
I made copy of a CD but the last one turned up to be the first one! One CD, which I thought had been written was not written at all

In iTunes 9 i was able to disable the volume control for remote speakers in Airtunes. In iTunes 10 this option has disappeared in Airplay. Is it somewhere else in the menu or have they just threw this option out of iTunes 10. Is there some sort of workaround?

Just got a new Macbook Pro and I want to transfer my I tunes playlist (songs, albums and podcasts to the new computer and then I will sync my ipod to the new computer. None of the music is bought or downloaded I simply copied from Cd's I own. The podcast are free downloaded one. I have tried dragging the library to a flash drive and uploading it on the new Macbook and all I get are the playlist folders not the contents. I have tried the share feature through Mobile me and that does not work either. I can always make it the topic of my "one to one" training this week but this is the last item in moving everything from the old Macbook pro so I can give it to our Daughter. Migration assistant did not seem to work either.

With the Airs not having large hard drives do you tend to store your iTunes on a separate drive? If so what do you use?

I want to transfer my iTunes library to a new MacBook that I'm buying today. What's the best way to do it? I need to sell this computer before I get the new one so I won't be able to put a cable between them. If I just copy across the music folder in my iTunes media directory, will this be enough? I have lots of album booklets and iTunes LP stuff that I want across as well. The other option is of course the DVD backup system through iTunes.

1.) I was messing around and dragged the little hard drive icon onto the desk top as I wanted it to be displayed there. Far from it being displayed on the desk top it vanished in a wee puff of smoke .
2.) I have my old itunes library saved onto an external HD. Should I trnasfer all of this onto the new macbook prior to doing my first sync of my iphone?

Ok so i am trying to figure out the best way to do this over 3g. I want to purchase a WD My book live to store my photos, videos, and all of my music. I know that I can remap my itunes to find the files while i am on the same wifi network.
What i am trying to figure out is can i remotely access and play my music from the WD My book live? Basically by passing my laptop. Is the best why to do this is with a VPN? If so what will let you access an external NAS drive, and run a itunes app?
Is this possible to do or is more pain then its worth?

If I use an external drive, do i need to re-install iTunes every time? Can I use the time machine on my Time capsule?

My son has a 4th gen iTouch and was using the family PC Windows desktop iTunes. The PC got infected and the hard drive was wiped out. Needless to say we are converting to the "Mac" side!!!! My son purchased a secondhand MacBook which he LOVES. He now needs to figure out how to get his complete iTouch library (purchased and other sourced music) to the MacBook iTunes.
We cannot access the PC hard drive to make a backup and the last backup he did only has about half of what is on it now.....( I know, back up regularly...my bad!) I have read and heard so many things about NOT being able to do this and "no prob". I guess our concern is losing everything on his iTouch if he connects it to the MacBook.

I've just upgraded from a Power Mac (V10.5.8) to a Mac Book Pro. I'd like to transfer all the music I have in iTunes (V10.6.1) and don't want to have to buy Leopard just for this one-off. I've used the thunderbolt to copy everything else ok.
I'll probably push all my content to iCloud to share on my great new iPhone as well, but 1 brideg at at a time!!

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
