When I have iTunes in focus and enter Time Machine, it opens a Finder window behind iTunes, brings it into focus, then goes into Time Machine for Finder. Same with iPhoto. The only thing that seems to work properly is Mail (I can have it in focus, enter Time Machine, and use the Mail interface to restore e-mail).
View 5 RepliesI've had my MacBook for 2 years now, and it still runs good. But I would like to do a clean install, but I don't want to loose my itunes library and iphoto library. Things like play counts and ratings and playlists etc. I've got everything backed up to my time machine but if I do a clean install can I just restore those two programs or is it all or nothing.

Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).
My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.

This is like my 4th thread since I've tried to update my hard drive. I got everything restored from Time Machine. BUT! Now, when I go to launch iPhoto, it just says the application quit unexpectedly. I've tried restarting and resetting. It's quite like 12 times.

Alright, so this morning, I tried to restore my iPhoto library using Time Machine to about 2 months ago, since I had deleted some pics. Long story short, it didn't seem to work, so I restored the backup from this morning at 11 am, the latest backup, since I had just uploaded some new photos today. Now my iPhoto library is empty. There are just outlines where my pics used to be, and it seems to remember events and all, but there are no pics or videos at all. Everything is gone. I'm just lost and feeling a bit nauseaus that I may have lost 40 some gigs of photos.

After reading a thread I found out how to view my backed up photos in iphoto through time machine. The problem is. We reformatted our IMac, and although I can find the other photos that were saved on there. I cannot find any of the photos that were once in Iphoto, as iphoto is now empty. Do you know where those photos may be or have I lost them all?

I saved my iphoto library to an external hard drive because my memory on my macbook was almost full. That hard drive became corrupt and now I can't get anything off it. I have a time machine and I was wondering how I restore my iphoto library and save it to an external drive because I do not have enough room on my laptop so I can't restore it there.Also how do I look at the different version to find the latest version of the iphoto library before it was deleted.

I was just thinking -- just in case it comes down to it -- if I somehow lost my iPhoto library, how would I use Time Machine to restore it? Is there an option within iPhoto to do this, or would I just do a search in Time Machine for the entire iPhoto folder and just restore it like that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed a new HDD. I reinstalled OS X by first installing my original Tiger and then the Leopard upgrade. Don't ask why I did not just go straight to Leopard because I don't know I then used the Migration Assistant to bring in the TM backup. I went to open iPhoto and I am getting: wtf? I think that I am going to reinstall OSX. I have the original HDD; is there a way to transfer everything from that directly? Maybe I will try doing an "Erase and ReInstall" option right from the Leopard disc and then choose the TM option.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did something with my iphoto and when I went to look at my pics they were all gone except the black screen had white outlines of every pic but I couldn't see the pictures. It wanted to build my thumbnail and for whatever reason I didn't choose yes. I think I should have. So, I thought time machine would pull all those photos back. I restored from earlier in the day when it was fine. I had about 4000 photos and after restore I ended up with over 40000 photos. It had put all the clipart and all kinds of photos in there from programs.
Also it duplicated every picture I had at least 3 times. I did go in a delete all the clipart pics. Now I have about 35000 pics. The photos now are not all large size when I click on them. A lot of them are really small when I try to open them. I can't even think about going through all of those pics individually. I thought the Time Machine would restore back to what it was previously with my 4000 or so pics. I'm running iphoto 6 so I can't see the pics when I go into the Finder.
My time machine doesn't back up my pics in iphoto. Any knows how to make it do that?

Watch out in Time Machine after you install and upgrade your iPhoto '09 library. My Time Machine just did a fresh backup of it....all 40GB of it! Basically it gave me the same Node require deep traversal on just the iPhoto Library....so I'm guessing it had something to do with the upgrade.

After I had a full backup to iomega external hard drive I wanted to see photos in iPhoto library by using Time Machine. I can see the iPhoto Library icon on Time Machine, but when I click on an icon it does not open the folder and I can't see the pictures stored on iomega external hard drive. All other backed up documents I can see and restore if I need it.

I am trying to retrieve an iPhoto file from a week ago.
One week ago I attempted to upgrade to Lion, then realized that was not what I wanted to do and rebooted from my clone to restore to Snow Leopard.
When I opened iPhoto however, I realized that the iPhoto library was way further back than I had remembered.
I used my Time Machine backup to get my old iPhoto library back (not to try to merge, just to retreive the file) and I get the error message: "This operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access "iPhoto Library."
I already repaired permissions on the volume. What gives?
My entire iPhoto Library is gone, inaccessible, doesn't show up in finder. I tried to restore my last Time Machine back up but it says that I don't have enough space on my startup disk. In order to create space I deleted everything nonessential and moved all of my essential folders such as documents, photos, videos, everything, etc. to my external drive, then deleted them from my hard drive. I emptied the trash to make sure that everything was wiped.
I tried to do the Time Machine back up of my iPhoto Library again and is still says I don't have enough space. I looked at my storage under About this Mac, and it says that 120.35 GB of my current computer storage are photos, however, I don't have ANY photos on my hard drive at all. I don't know what to do because I can't delete applications and there is literally nothing else I can delete from my computer, so I don't understand how 135 GBs of storage is being used up.
Could there be somewhere my photos are hiding? I just don't understand why my library got deleted in the first place for that matter.

How much RAM should I stuff in an eMac G4 (1Ghz I believe) to get acceptable performance as both a low-duty File Server and as an iTunes/iPhoto/iMovie '06 Machine? Im currently having this capacity filled by 2 machines: iTunes/iPhoto by a G4/450 and iMovie HD on my G4/1.67 . I know Ill take a slight performance hit, but if it means my PowerBook can go back to being a laptop, its worth it.

This sucks because I have spent HOURS upon HOURS sorting it, renaming crooked song titles, finding covers and all that stuff. I used time machine to back up my computer like 5 days ago, but I can't figure out how to use it. I wish I could just select that given day (when I made my last backup) and make it turn everything back to what it was back then.How do I do this exactly? I don't care at all if I have to go back to the old iTunes (obviously they will fix this eventually!) - I just want it to look like it did a few days ago.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a new mac user (total convert--am on my second iMac in a month and am about to buy a macbook), and am having trouble with my itunes service. My first 24" iMac developed a clicking HDD, so I was lucky enough to be able to bring it back to the shop for a replacement iMac. I made a time machine backup of the first Mac and copied directly to the second one (which was flawless....how come I haven't been using macs prior to now? I've lost dozens of backups on PC). The only issue I've had is with iTunes--I keep getting an error that the iTunes library is newer than the version of iTunes on the computer. Is there anyway to fix this without losing my entire library of songs? I did make up a physical copy of the iTunes folder on my first Mac, just in case, so I assume that I could delete iTunes and reinstall a fresh copy, update it, and then copy the iTunes folder over to the new version. But this is a Windows approach to the issue and there is probably a simpler way of fixing this. Alternately, I could do the same but sync my iPod and copy everything to my library that way.

I back up to a time capsule. I got a message saying that the last backup failed due to lack of space. It used to auto-delete old backups to make space for new ones. I entered time machine preferences and didn't see an option for "delete old backups to make space for new". I'm running the latest version of Lion with the latest update for Time Capsule installed.
