OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Not Letting Retrieve An IPhoto File Library

Feb 3, 2012

I am trying to retrieve an iPhoto file from a week ago.

One week ago I attempted to upgrade to Lion, then realized that was not what I wanted to do and rebooted from my clone to restore to Snow Leopard.

When I opened iPhoto however, I realized that the iPhoto library was way further back than I had remembered.

I used my Time Machine backup to get my old iPhoto library back (not to try to merge, just to retreive the file) and I get the error message: "This operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access "iPhoto Library."

I already repaired permissions on the volume.  What gives?

OS X :: Unable To Retrieve Lost File / Backup Created Using Time Machine

Mar 25, 2010

I have a file I alter once about a week, each time I alter it I save it as a new one, with a date included in the name.So I have a series of files something like

xxxxx march 13.numbers
xxxxx march 07.numbers
xxxxx march 01.numbers
etc.

This morning when I updated and saved the march13 file I accidentally saved it as xxxxxx march 13, not xxxxxx march 20 which it should have been. No problem, go into time machine and retrieve the march 13 file I thought. Its not there. Its not there from just before the save to any time it should be there !

Luckily I was able to retrieve it as I also have a once a week online backup so I went into the last one of those and retrieved "xxxxxx march13" which proves it did exist, it has a creation date of march 17 but if I look at TM for march 18 its not there - why isn't it in my time machine backup?

All the other files in that folder are as expected so the only thing that makes any sense to me is that TM hasn't been backing up over the past week or so but TM error logger shows no errors.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Delete One Backup Of 1 File In Time Machine?

I'd like to keep one backup of a particularly large file in Time Machine, but all the incremental backups are taking up a ton of room. I've read how you can delete all backups of one file, and all files in one backup. But can you delete one file in one backup?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine (silently) Fails To Backup File

Jun 14, 2012

i have a case where i have a large file (a sparse disk image) which at some point in the past seems to have become corrupt in the sense that there were problems reading it.eventually, i realized that attempts to clone the drive containing the bad file were failing (super duper reporting an error).an attempt to finder-copy the disk image also failed.i went to find backup copies of the file in question in my time machine backups and realized that the file did not exist in my backups.digging through system logs, i discovered that when time machine encountered an error when reading the file, it was failing silenty - that is, no error was reported via time machine - backups were seemingly completing successfully.so as a result, i went quite a long time with no backup of the failing file, nor any obvious warning that it was failing, even though time machine was encountering an error every time it tried to backup the file.

this seems like a major problem, perhaps even a design flaw in time machine.in fact, it is really the extreme opposite of the behavior i would consider "reasonable" for a reliable backup program.i somehow misinterpreting the data? any guess as to why time machine would not report when it tried to read a file during a backup, but failed?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Error Cannot Write To Sparse Bundle / File In Use

Jun 23, 2012

We're having trouble with a Time Machine backup. Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:

verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

OS X :: Restore IPhoto Library With Time Machine

Nov 28, 2009

I use a white Macbook running 10.5.8. Alright, so this morning, I tried to restore my iPhoto library using Time Machine to about 2 months ago, since I had deleted some pics. Long story short, it didn't seem to work, so I restored the backup from this morning at 11 am, the latest backup, since I had just uploaded some new photos today. Now my iPhoto library is empty. There are just outlines where my pics used to be, and it seems to remember events and all, but there are no pics or videos at all. Everything is gone. I'm just lost and feeling a bit nauseaus that I may have lost 40 some gigs of photos.

Applications :: Restoring IPhoto Library With Time Machine?

Apr 12, 2008

I was just thinking -- just in case it comes down to it -- if I somehow lost my iPhoto library, how would I use Time Machine to restore it? Is there an option within iPhoto to do this, or would I just do a search in Time Machine for the entire iPhoto folder and just restore it like that?

MacBook Pro :: Time Machine Lost IPhoto Library?

Jan 9, 2010

I installed a new HDD. I reinstalled OS X by first installing my original Tiger and then the Leopard upgrade. Don't ask why I did not just go straight to Leopard because I don't know I then used the Migration Assistant to bring in the TM backup. I went to open iPhoto and I am getting: wtf? I think that I am going to reinstall OSX. I have the original HDD; is there a way to transfer everything from that directly? Maybe I will try doing an "Erase and ReInstall" option right from the Leopard disc and then choose the TM option.

I'm trying to install 10.6 on my old Macbook Pro but everytime the installer says I cannot install Mac Os X on this computer. I checked the requirements for the install and my computer meets them so I do not understand what is going on, could it have anything to do with my computer being too old for it? Trying to install it on a 15" Macbook Pro 2ghz Intel Core Duo from 2007. I'm also trying to jump from 10.4 to 10.6, could that be the issue?

OS X Mavericks :: IPhoto Library Deleted From Computer - Not Enough Space For Time Machine Backup?

Aug 23, 2014

My entire iPhoto Library is gone, inaccessible, doesn't show up in finder. I tried to restore my last Time Machine back up but it says that I don't have enough space on my startup disk. In order to create space I deleted everything nonessential and moved all of my essential folders such as documents, photos, videos, everything, etc. to my external drive, then deleted them from my hard drive. I emptied the trash to make sure that everything was wiped.

I tried to do the Time Machine back up of my iPhoto Library again and is still says I don't have enough space. I looked at my storage under About this Mac, and it says that 120.35 GB of my current computer storage are photos, however, I don't have ANY photos on my hard drive at all. I don't know what to do because I can't delete applications and there is literally nothing else I can delete from my computer, so I don't understand how 135 GBs of storage is being used up.

Could there be somewhere my photos are hiding? I just don't understand why my library got deleted in the first place for that matter.
