Feb 8, 2012I had been using automator quite successfully until recently now I'm unable to get automator to step through even the most basic setup. It refuses to step through to the second action and perpetually runs without producing any results as the image below shows.for any of my automator setups I get results for the first step and then an indefinate hang on the second leaving the step icon greyed out. I have tried this with numerous other actions like calendars etc but to no avail. Below are the very basic automator steps I'm using in this example.Â

Mar 6, 2012I have been using Automator to import hundreds of text files into one excel workbook using the "Import Text files to Excel Workbook" action. Automator works great for all files that are tab delimited. However I have another set of data that are output with a varying amount of spaces between each column. I cannot change the way they are output.
Automator gives me the option of choosing "space" as a delimiter, but it wont give me the option to "Treat consecutive delimiters as one" that Import within excel does. I also tried to record my actions within excel many times but it didn't work even with just one file. So what I need is a way to get these text files into one excel workbook as separate worksheets with the data separated correctly into columns.

Mar 14, 2012I'm updating an Automator workflow for OS X Lion that I initally developed and used, without issue, in OS X Tiger. The workflow asks for a name, creates a folder for the name, takes a digital image with a Nikon D50 connected to the computer, and saves the image to the new folder. This aspect of the workflow works fine.Â
I then have a prompt asking if we should take another. If the user says "yes," the script should take another image and save it to the folder. This is where I run into an issue. When I attempt to add another "Take a Picture Action" into the workflow, I get the cryptic (at least to me) error message in the attached screenshot. Â Â
Here's the text:Â
"Cannot update for observer <AMWorkflow 0x400458ac0> for the key path "parameters.name" from <TakePicture 0x403e3b0a0>, most likely because the value for the key "parameters" has changed without an appropriate KVO notification being sent. Check the KVO-compliance of the TakePicture class."Â
The language of this error would seem to indicate a bug.

OS X :: Files Being Placed Behind Others In Icon View
Nov 10, 2009Most of the time when I download a file or unzip a file, the resulting file gets placed behind an existing one. Like instead of the file being placed in the next open spot, it ends up where another file is, making it seemingly disappear. I then have to look through the entire folder to find it and put it in an empty spot. This occurs when in icon view only, and is VERY annoying! What is happening here and how do I fix it? I'm using 10.6.2 on a June '09 MBP. This has been happening for a while now but I don't remember if this was occurring pre Snow Leopard too.

Oct 29, 2009To stop the lagging of broswing server folders using OSX column view, I'd like to disable the 'icon preview' in OSX as the caching if the icon previews is what is grinding out fileserver browsing on our AFP server down. In Leopard 10.5 this option/checkbox is visible under the Finders View Options but on our Tiger Macs, the icon preview checkbox is missing?
Under View Options there are only the other two checkboxes visible which are the preview column and show icons. In Tiger you can turn off Icon Preview for desktop items as the icon preview option is available when you ctrl+click on the desktop but I cant seem to do it for anywhere else, in particular for when I browse server folders.
OS X :: Showing File Size In Icon View?
Nov 17, 2009Is there an option/tweak/add-on to show the size of a highlighted file in icon view? I know I can change to a different view or use 'Get Info' on the file but that defeats the purpose. Is there anyway to see this information on the information bar on the bottom of the window (instead of just number of files and space available on disk)?
Nothing major, just something to make life a little easier.
OS X :: 10.5.6 Icon Preview View Mode - No Thumbnail Images?
Dec 19, 2008After upgrading to 10.5.6, the vast majority of my recently created, saved, or altered image files (JPEGs and PNGs, mostly) no longer feature a thumbnail preview image while in icon preview view mode. Rather, they merely display generic icons indicating what kind of file they are.
This is unbelievably frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing this?
EDIT: It effects old (read: not recently created, saved, or altered) image files as well. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which image files are affected; one folder will display thumbnails, the next will be full of generic icons.
PS, this is not an iPhoto issue. All my iPhoto images have thumbnails, as per usual. This issue concerns image files in folders and on the desktop.

May 12, 2010When view folder through finder and bumping up the size of the icons it makes the window wider so I need to use the horizontal scroll bar to see all the items. This really does not make much sense and I would rather have what it does in iPhoto, the images get bigger and it just pumps the list down (makes the vertical scroll longer etc.). I hope this makes sense, I can not seem to find a setting to change it however.

Apr 25, 2012I have a WD Passport. I installed the latest firmware, and smartware software, in the hope I could remove that dratted "VCD" icon from popping up each time I connect the smartware drive. The smartware software allowed me to change the settings so that I could disable the drive.Â
Now I no longer need the software, but the it seems to have installed a "quick view" icon on the task bar! (near the clock / date etc).
I looked in "Login Items", but it doesn't seem to start anyprogram on startup, and I can't drag it off the task bar.Â
How can I remove this? There doesn't seem to be any setting within Smartware to remove this. Curse you Smartware!

Final Cut Pro X :: Frame Viewed In Finder Icon View
Dec 11, 2014When you export a file (say for example for an Apple Device, 1080) and you view the file in Finder, in the icon view, the file displays a frame from the clip. Is there a way to define what frame in the clip that it uses? Â In the files I've exported, it's not the first frame of the file. It appears to be about 10 minutes in. Â This is the same frame that gets used when you sync the file to an iDevice.

Feb 13, 2006Earlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)�same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
