I just bought a macbook pro 15" and I noticed something strange. I installed Skype application and the icon is strange and different on my dock application folder. Why does it not show Skype's normal icon? Check pic for more details.
View 17 RepliesI'm completely new to macs and just got a MBP for school. Well, I was trying to clear out my dock and put in some new apps when I accidently pulled the application folder out. Okay thats fine, I searched for it and found the right one. But when I pulled it out to put onto the dock it has the address book icon on top of it. I cant get it off.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI installed SL on my iMac last week and changed the icon for the applications folder on my dock - no problem. Did the same for my Macbook last night and now the applications folder on both docks keeps disappearing. I use Mobile Me to sync the docks. I've dragged the folder from Finder into the dock and it stays briefly and then disappears.

I just noticed that I have a strange new icon in my Leopard-menubar. It has two circular arrows. If I click on it, it displays three choice: "Never Synchronized .Mac", "Synchronize now" and "Open .Mac Sync Preferences". If I click "Sync now", the arrows rotate for a while, and nothing seems to happen. In Activity Monitor "SyncServer" works for a while, and the goes back to sleep. It seems that the icon is related to .Mac. I'm not a .Mac-subsriber and I have never touched any of the related, and I have no idea where that icon came from. And I have no idea how to get rid of it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer froze while I was doing homework so I tried to restart it and when I did, It doesn't show the apple logo but rather a File Folder with a ? Symbol! I tried reselecting the hard drive but it didn't show! I CANNOT lose my information on my harddrive cause I have very IMPORTANT work on there! I have mac OS X Lion! So I don't have a start up disk for that and the one i have is stuck in my computer right now!

I have this icon behind the Application icon on the dock and I cannot figure out what it is. It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.

Today I turned on my iMac and an access denied symbol show up at the loading screen. After waiting a while, it changed into a folder with an iterrogation in the middle of it and it starts to twinkle. I really don't know whats going on. Yesterday I turned off the iMac as normally and I didn't add/remove any programs or made a change on my settings.

Just came back from the Genius Bar at Apple Amsterdam. Both iTunes and iPhoto had problems launching and libraries were not loading. Ruled out hardware problems so they tried installing OS Snow Leopard over my 10.5.8 in a way to keep my documents safe. All went well until halfway it said it couldn't install succesfully. Made a new appointment for in 3 days from now. They would then overwrite the current OS with the new one so i should go home and make sure to back up all my files in the meantime. Problem is that when i came home and started my laptop i got a blank/white screen with a blinking documents folder symbol with a question mark in it! Does anybody know what it means and will i be able to ever make a back up of my documents?

How do you change the hard drive icon picture in the top right corner to look like the macbook pro computer? I've seen this on a couple people's desktops and was just wondering how you do it. Also, how do you change the folder icon to something that looks cooler.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having volume issues on my 2011 MPB running Lion. When I start my computer it makes the start up noise, and I am also running Windows 7 with BootCamp, and the volume works there. On my Mac side however, I am getting a broken icon symbol when I hit the volume buttons, and I also cannot control volume throung the pull dowm bar on the upper portion of the screen. No volume is working. I have done all my updates, and I have reset my PRAM (which was only a temporary fix).

I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

Just got my first Mac yesterday (MBP) and am getting used to it. I have a question about installing applications. Of the 3rd party software I have installed thus far (firefox, skype, ibank) they all install fine. However, if I go into the applications folder, they have a generic icon until after I reboot.

On my old one, I had an program installed, I think it was in the preferences actually, that made it so when I "hide" an application, the corresponding application icon in the Dock would dim; its opacity would lower. This way, you knew that application was currently hiding. I can't remember the name of the program that I used to get this desired effect. Anyone else know of the program I am talking about or of another program that can achieve the same effect?

When you click to maximize you only get one, and then nothing else happens if you keep clicking with others minimized in there
Expose is nice but and you can right click on it, but is that it?

I've ported my Qt 4.3 application on Mac OS and it works correctly fine. After I've created a setup which install my application and other required files. Now I'm searching help for 3 things :
1) How I can customize my application icon and give it a specific icon
2) How to create a desktop shotcut of my application after installation
3) How to add my application to the Dock.
I'm on Mac X 10.4.6, I'm using Xcode 2.0 and I've created the setup with PackageMaker.
I'm used to KDE and Gnome, where if I close an app, it's closed, end of. No more consuming processor power and no need to go round housekeeping and right-click+quit. Please help me understand how to change the behaviour of my Mac mini so when I click the little red X, the app closes properly.

View 6 Replies View RelatedTo the point... I use TimeOut to remind me to get up and move, while I am on my computer. It is a handy app that will make the screen go blank for how ever long I set my breaks to last.
The thing is... I don't need the application icon to sit in my Dock taking up space telling me the application is open. I know it is open since it tells me to get up and stretch every 20 minutes by blanking my screen.
So, is there any way to take the application's icon off the Dock while still leaving it open?
Why is it that every time I open an application, skype for example, a new icon appears on my desktop? But it looks like a hard drive.

However, i accidentally deleted the last 2 icons next to the trash icon. I know that you can retrieve icons by going to the application and dragging them to the dock. But the last 2 icons i believe is something different. I forgot the name of the icons as well but i know it has something to do with recent activities or some sort.
