View 2 RepliesDoes anyone happen to know offhand how the icons that make up the Application stack get rebuilt? I've noticed that when I install new applications or update old ones, I get the following sort of "not found" icon. They generally go away quickly, other times they hang around for days. So I'm assuming there's an automated process that generates them... I'd like to kick it off manually if possible.

Terminal Split Pane: Why does split pane it merely duplicate what I type in the second pane? Why can I only type within the second pane? Is there a way to change the orientation of the split panes? I'm either missing something or this feature is totally useless/broken.
Stack Icon Sizes: In the dock, when I view a folder stack in Grid, how do I change the icon size? They're like, goofy huge too me.
I'd like to add more then 10 items to my recent application stack list - any terminal script that can implement this - ideally I'd like 20 items in the list. To avoid confusion the screenshot is the stack list I am referring to.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have this icon behind the Application icon on the dock and I cannot figure out what it is. It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.

its really annoying whenever happen to use two fingers on my multi-touch mouse-y thing and all of my icons spiral into outrageously large or ridiculously small sizes. is there a way I can lock the icon size so this doesn't happen?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have noticed something strange in Snow Leopard when dealing with file permissions in a Get Info window. Previously, in Leopard, when I would Get Info on a file and open the "Sharing and Permissions" tab, I would be unable to edit permissions until I had clicked on the lock icon and entered the admin password. However, I have found that in Snow Leopard, I can edit permissions with the lock icon closed. It doesn't even ask for a password to change file permissions. I have been searching around to see if anyone else had noticed this, but to no avail. I am concerned, as not having to enter a password to change file permissions could be a bit of a security issue, couldn't it? I also don't believe it to be specific to my machine, as I have access to another Snow Leopard computer and it is the same there.

after repairing disk permissions using the Apple OS Disk Utility and/or verifying "Sharing & Permissions" in the "Get Info" window of a drive, all connected hard drives on the system will suddenly have a small lock icon on the lower left corner of the drive icon. "Custom" is what appears in the "Get Info" window in the "Sharing & Permissions" for both System and Admin users and they can't be changed. The drives won't open when clicked on saying something about "you don't have correct permissions or privileges to access this drive".
Rebooting, creating new users, repairing Disk permissions and/or repair disk in Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, booting from another drive and even booting from an Apple OS installer disk have no effect on the locked drives, I can't get to them......................
what other formats or apps can i now word processand cut and paste photos on ?

Has anyone made their Application folder a stack? When I have a newly installed program, the icon does not display correctly in the stack. It shows a crossed out application icon. In finder the icon displays correctly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got my first Mac yesterday (MBP) and am getting used to it. I have a question about installing applications. Of the 3rd party software I have installed thus far (firefox, skype, ibank) they all install fine. However, if I go into the applications folder, they have a generic icon until after I reboot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou know how there is a blue dot underneath an application's icon in the dock representing that the application is running? Is there a way to change this to another color? I don't see any option for it, so I think it's unlikely that it can be changed but if it can I'd appreciate being told how to change it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, my laptop was stolen and I just received my new one today. On my old one, I had an program installed, I think it was in the preferences actually, that made it so when I "hide" an application, the corresponding application icon in the Dock would dim; its opacity would lower. This way, you knew that application was currently hiding. I can't remember the name of the program that I used to get this desired effect. Anyone else know of the program I am talking about or of another program that can achieve the same effect?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo i have it enabled, and that's great and all.
But the thing is, what are you supposed to do if you have more than one thing minimized? say 2 Safari Windows? Or the steam beta with 3 chats?
When you click to maximize you only get one, and then nothing else happens if you keep clicking with others minimized in there
Expose is nice but and you can right click on it, but is that it?
I cannot add an application icon in the dock.

1) How I can customize my application icon and give it a specific icon

I'm completely new to macs and just got a MBP for school. Well, I was trying to clear out my dock and put in some new apps when I accidently pulled the application folder out. Okay thats fine, I searched for it and found the right one. But when I pulled it out to put onto the dock it has the address book icon on top of it. I cant get it off.

How do I remove an application icon from my desktop? I tried moving it to finder and I tried deleting it; nothing works.
View 6 Replies View RelatedTo the point... I use TimeOut to remind me to get up and move, while I am on my computer. It is a handy app that will make the screen go blank for how ever long I set my breaks to last.
The thing is... I don't need the application icon to sit in my Dock taking up space telling me the application is open. I know it is open since it tells me to get up and stretch every 20 minutes by blanking my screen.
So, is there any way to take the application's icon off the Dock while still leaving it open?
Why is it that every time I open an application, skype for example, a new icon appears on my desktop? But it looks like a hard drive.

View 24 Replies View Relatedi'm new to Mac and im just learning all the features. I bought the 15" mid macbook pro and this laptop is awesome. However, i accidentally deleted the last 2 icons next to the trash icon. I know that you can retrieve icons by going to the application and dragging them to the dock. But the last 2 icons i believe is something different. I forgot the name of the icons as well but i know it has something to do with recent activities or some sort.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed SL on my iMac last week and changed the icon for the applications folder on my dock - no problem. Did the same for my Macbook last night and now the applications folder on both docks keeps disappearing. I use Mobile Me to sync the docks. I've dragged the folder from Finder into the dock and it stays briefly and then disappears.
