I have a Late 08 Unibody MBP, and I ordered 6gb (one 2gb and one 4gb) of Ram from OWC to install with Snow Leopard (super fast kitty ). So first I installed Snow Leopard with my orignal 2gb of Ram, and it was fine. Then, I installed the 6gb of Ram and it booted up fine and I checked "About this Mac" and it said "6gb of ddr3 ram" or something like that. So I thought all was well. After that, I was transferring some large files from an external HD over to my Mac (clean install), so I went to have some lunch
Ok, So I have heard what others are saying , but I just want to be sure, I have a Late 2009 White Macbook (Feb. 4, 2009). It is running Leopard 2GB RAM, 64 BIT, 120 HD, BLUETOOTH, ECT. I was curious if my Macbook will be able to run Snow Leopard because some people say it needs 4GB RAM and I can replace my ram, but I really just want to run it smoothly on my macbook.
Had leopard, upgraded to 10a432 snow leopard, if that's not the GM can I upgrade to it from there? I'm hearing not... I had a santa rosa 2007 mbp and bought the leopard upgrade disk (got it around leopard launch), it messed up too many times, got an early 2008 mbp replacement with leopard on it, upgraded that to 10a432. so i only have a leopard upgrade disk and 10a432. halp?
I just noticed, that the built-in video-cams on two iMacs (one white 20" and one aluminum 24") do not work.
System Profiler is not detecting a video-cam. I guess, this probably confirms that this is not the GM build. Does anyone have a solution to enabling the video-cams?
I recently replaced Leopard 10.5 with a clean installation (not an upgrade) of Snow Leopard 10A432 (SL) on my Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook (aluminum, 2GB RAM). Under Leopard 10.5 I was able to use Disk Utility (DU) to dynamically re-size existing volumes on USB hard drives. But under SL I am unable to do so. While I am able to replace all existing partitions on a USB drive with a new set of partitions and resize them prior to their creation by dragging the slider bars, once created, DU will not let me dynamically resize the new partitions. Doing so was easy with DU under 10.5. For example, after I re-partitioned a USB drive with DU under SL and created 2 partitions, I was able to make the top partition smaller by dragging the bottom edge upward from the lower right corner, but there seems to be no way (and no slider bars) to adjust the size of the lower partition to use the space freed by having made the upper partition smaller. In fact, although the upper partition reports a smaller size, when clicked on, the border around the upper partition still includes the range defined by its initial, larger size. There also seems to be now way (no slider bars) at the top edge of partitions that would allow them to be expanded/contracted from the top down. Has anyone else encountered these issues? Any thoughts/suggestions as to how to resolve them? Are these known issues? I have searched but not come across it as yet.
What is the general compatibility of OSX with webcams? I have an old Logitech Quickcam pro and a creative webcam and am wondering if these will work with the Mac Mini I plan to purchase soon. Does OSX have a generic driver model that work with most webcams?
I just installed Snow Leopard last week. I was trying to take photos in Photo Booth but got this message: You can't use this version of the application Photo Booth with this version of Mac OS X. I have version 2.0.2 of Photo Booth. I'm very untech and I have searched some forums. Do I need to upgrade to iLife 09 in order to use Photo Booth?
Pardon me being stupid, but I'm stumped. I have the ATI Radeon HD 2400, and on the Snow Leopard specs for OpenCL it doesn't list this. Will this effect anything, or will it still work.
I have an iMac running on snow leopard and am thinking of getting a macbook air running on lion. Does anyone know if I can use the optical drive on my iMac to install software on the macbook air?
i have a an Exteranl USB Enclosure that contains a 3.5" IDE drive, this works fine when plugged into my 15" MacBookPro with LION and it also worked perfectly when i had Snow Leopard. So why does it NOT work when plugged into a friends 13" MacBookPro with it

Having looked at several sites including Apple I am still confused clicking on "about this MAC" on my MAC PRO 1.1 running 10.5.8 I get the following: 2X 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Nowhere do I find this item on either the OK or Not-OK list for full compatibility - I see references to "Core Duo" and similar but none to "Dual-Core". It seems that Snow Leopard will run but not take full advantage of capabilities. Also it seems that I have the old PCI bus ( it just says PCI no PCI 1 or PCI 2)and old graphics processor (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT:) Does anyone know where to get the graphics upgrade kit? B&H which has been suggested elsewhere has none shame on Apple for discontinuing this item.
Development build 10C535 of Snow Leopard update 10.6.2 retains Intel Atom support after the previous build had killed compatibility with the processor.
According to the developer blog which initially told of the Atom incompatibility, the latest build of OS X 10.6.2 does retain support for Atom chips. It was previously reported that support for the Intel chip had been dropped, a move that many believed was Apple's attempt to stop the small but burgeoning "Hackintosh" netbook community. This all may change when the final 10.6.2 build is released, but as of now Atom support has returned.
Intel's Atom processor is a low-power, low-cost chip which is intended for notebooks and ultra-mobile PCs. No current Apple products use the chip, but a community has formed around installing Snow Leopard on so called "Hackintosh" netbook PCs which use the Atom processor. This unauthorized use of Apple's operating system has grown in popularity since the release of small, inexpensive notebooks such as the Dell Mini 10v, which allowed for easy installs of OS X.
Last year, it was reported that an executive at Intel had publicly vouched for the Atom processor to be used in Apple's tablet. With the buyout of chip designer P.A. Semi, many believe that Apple is instead designing its own chips for the platform.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]
I have received warning from Disk Utility that I should repair permissions as several files show incorrect permissions and, more than that, my 750GB shows "769GB available".
1. If I use Command+R and rebuild the disk from a Time Machine backup, will permissions be reset or will the files just be copied as they are now?
2. Is there a way to verify the TM backups to check the files therein?
3. Suppose, just for the sake of an exercise, that I reload Snow Leopard; can I still use SL's Time Machine to read a Lion Time Machine backup?

I am having problems with my Mac G4, and it's been suggested it may be the motherboard. Therefore I'm considering getting a new iMac. I am concerned about what software i have, and what will be compatible with a new machine. Here are the programs i currently have, and use: Illustrator CS, Photoshop CS, Carrara 5 Pro, Painter IX, Hexagon 2, Dreamweaver MX, FireworksMX, Flash MX and Titanium Toast 6. I also use Appleworks 6 on occasion. Can anyone indicate which, if any of these could be used with Leapord and iMac?
I dont know whats going on but suddenly all my "third party applications"( not included in iLife) started to freeze after I open them. (Keynote, Pages, Skype, MSN Messenger, just to name a few). I have to force quit them.
I want to play a game on my early 2011 macbook pro with 8 gb of ram and I have an application that tells me how much ram i have avaliable, which is 4 gb, and when i play GTA IV it defaults one gb of ram to it, but how do I make it default two gb of ram so that the game will run smoother?
I'm tired of the low end GPUs in the MacBook Pros and iMacs, want to game but don't want a PC. I'm considering picking up a second hand Mac Pro and upgrading the GPU - however, I know there aren't currently drivers available for eg. the HD 5000 series. What would happen if I were to install one in a Mac Pro? Would I get no image at all in OS X? Would I get unusable video/flash/photoshop performance in OS X?
I opened a PDF to crop some parts of the file and there are two big issues: 1. I cannot crop multiple pages anymore. There just isn't that option in Inspector or anywhere else. I can only crop one page at a time. 2. Not only can I not crop more than one page at a time, but cropping doesn't actually delete the date. I can go to "View | PDF Display | Crop Box" and see what I just cropped!
When I click on the red cross button of Safari to stop it, the window vanishes. But the application remains in memory, so when I click again Safari shows up immediately. This is the normal behavior, iPhoto doesn't. I mean the lightening dot under the icon in the dock disappears. So is there a way to have iPhoto behave like Safari? I upgraded memory of my MBP and there is space enough to keep iPhoto and others in memory.

I had Yahoo Widgets on my desktop. It was a little separate dock from the main dock and when I clicked on the visible part a tray would slide out with all the little widgets. Unfortunately I clicked "close" and the little dock disappeared. The application was still there in Applications but when I clicked on it, the little dock did not appear.
So I downloaded Yahoo Widgets again - it was called "Gallery" but even though an application called "Yahoo Widgets" appears in the Applications list, when I click on it, nothing happens. Unfortunately, Yahoo is ending support for this Widget Engine and I think the download has been deleted from their site. So I am thinking of restoring the widget from a backup that I made of the Mac HD but even though I have the hard disk attached to my computer.
I don't know how to find and restore the files for this application to make the little separate Yahoo Widget dashboard or dock appear on my desktop again. I have checked start "Yahoo Widgets" in System preferences under user and starting items. I really don't know what to do after this step but would really like to have this Yahoo widget dock again on my desktop because it was very useful.
