OS X :: Restoring ITunes/iPhoto After Clean Install?

Sep 18, 2009

I want to do a clean install of Snow Leopard and I'm wondering if I can just make a copy (to my external HD) of my entire Music and Pictures folders, and then drag them to replace the new ones created in the clean install? If I do so, will my photos and music appear in iTunes/iPhoto as it should?

OS X :: Clean Install - How Do I Migrate Mail/iPhoto/iTunes

Jun 9, 2009

I will want to perform a clean install when SL is released in September. But, I would like to have my iPhoto library (events, faces, places, etc.), my itunes library (song ratings, play counts, etc.) and my Mail (messages, mailboxes, etc.) kept in tact. Is this possible? If so, how would I got about doing this. I know people have asked similar questions to this, but I have not been able to find a reliable answer for all these concerns of mine.

OS X :: Clean Install - Restoring User Directory To 2nd Drive?

Oct 3, 2010

I am doing a clean install on my Mac Pro and want to bring in my user directory onto a 2nd drive (where it was originally).During the install, should I point to an external drive where I know have my user directory cloned and allow OS X to restore it?Should I just copy my user directory to the 2nd drive after doing the install?

Other caveats? I can foresee all sorts of potential problems. Anybody have any experience with this?I know that I will lose my apps in the process.

OS X :: Restoring IPhoto / ITunes / IWeb?

Oct 18, 2010

Well I reloaded my Mac to start fresh, but want to restore certain applications. I want to restore iPhoto, iTunes, and iWeb from my Time Machine. I have everything saved on my Time Machine backup.

iPhoto:

I tried "upgrading" my library to make the photos compatible, and it tells me to use a newer version even though I just used software update to update to the newest one. How do I get my photos back?

iTunes:

I have all of my music back, but I want my playlists and play counts back. Is there a file somewhere that would be in the Time Machine backup that would have this?

iWeb:

Where do I start? I want all of my sites back in iWeb. How do I do this?

OS X :: TimeMachine And ITunes ... Clean Install Of Snow Leopard Later

Jul 1, 2010

I'm upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard later this evening using the clean install option. I'm using a 2009 13" MBP. I have everything backed up to TimeMachine, but I just wanted to check that my entire iTunes library will be able to be recovered back into iTunes from TimeMachine after I complete the clean install of Snow Leopard. Also, is a time machine backup enough or should I be paranoid and back up everything to another external disk?

OS X :: How To Retain ITunes Library After Clean Snow Leopard Install

Aug 27, 2009

I want to do a clean/fresh install of Snow Leopard tomorrow. I can deal with reinstalling apps, etc. but I really don't want to lose my iTunes library, mainly my play count. Crazy, I know, but hey lol.

What's the best way of doing a fresh install without losing it? File->Library->Back Up To Disk? Will simply saving my iTunes folder to an external, then copying it to the fresh install work?

MacBook :: Deleted ITunes Library File During Clean Install / How To Get Back

Jul 1, 2010

My iTunes music files were stored on an external hard drive. But, unfortunately, the iTunes library file must have been on the laptop hard drive. Now, when I open iTunes music library and playlists are empty, despite my having 120GB of music on the connected hard drive.

Short of dragging and dropping all the music files into the iTunes window, is there any other way of "telling" iTunes where to find my music? I have tried "organize library" and nothing happens.

Software :: Restoring After HDD Change And Clean System Installation

Mar 9, 2009

I have just upgraded from a 60GB HD running OS X 10.4.11? to a 250GB drive.

Before changing HDs, I backed up the old HD onto an external FireWire drive using Retrospect Express 6.1.
I made a clean install of 10.5.6 onto the new HD, installed Retrospect Express.

I then restored my entire old HD to a *folder* on my new HD. There is room for it on the external FireWire disk also if that is better.

I expected wrongly to be able to use Migration Assistant to integrate my applications, e-mails, calendar, bookmarks, etc. into 10.5.6 but it did not allow me to select a folder to migrate from (I think it is looking preferably for another Mac attached via FireWire or at least an external disk, but I'm not sure what it's limits are).

I am also now concerned about Migration Assistant losing data (such as filed e-mails) as I have consulted with a tech friend who says it is problematic and I should restore by hand! Can you tell me the most efficient and reliable way to get out of my predicament? I'm crazy busy business-wise and I don't have time to lose wallowing & finding my own way, I can afford the time to do things right though :-) which is why I'm asking.

Obviously I am shut down now, I do not want to start doing "real work" on my computer until all my applications and files are in their proper places.

Applications (Quark, Adobe, Apple), all my Mail accounts, iCal, Fonts, Firefox + extensions & bookmarks are my mission-critical tools.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Restoring Mail, Etc From Time Machine To A Wiped-clean Disk?

Mar 10, 2012

I have wiped my hard disk clean and reinstalled Lion. I don't want to restore the whole shebang from my Time Machine backup because I want my apps to be installed clean. So my first question is about restoring my mail. I understand that I should make Mail my current application, then click on "Enter Time Machine."When I do that, I see "Today" which is my current setup - nothing much on my computer. I try to go back in time, but I can't because Time Machine thinks "Today" is the only existing backup. How can I get Time Machine to restore Mail from my hard drive before it was wiped clean?

Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).

My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.

OS X :: IPhoto Running Slow After Deleting And Restoring

Jun 7, 2009

can someone help as my girlfriend and me are both new to Mac's She was trying to clean up her photo folders after copying some over from her old PC, and in doing so deleted ALL her photos to the trash and then emptied the trash! iphoto would not load because it said there was no library. after downloading some software we could scan the HD and extract all the jpeg files to an external HD, then we could copy them back into the iphoto library! The problem is that most of the time when she is using iphoto and starts editing a photo it will run VERY slow. I am wandering if i can put the iLife 09 DVD in her iMac and reinstall it??? And will that do anything like deleting existing photos / music? Like i said we are both new to Macs and i still havent got my head round the file system from my old PC

MacBook Pro :: After Clean Install Snow Leopard, Can't Install Bundled Application (ilife)?

Apr 2, 2012

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.

It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".

I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:

1)normal install - fail

2)repair permission - fail

3)install in safe mode - fail

4) install using another admin acc - fail

5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail

6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai

7)updated my system and install - fail

8) reinstall the mac - fail

i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

I was just thinking -- just in case it comes down to it -- if I somehow lost my iPhoto library, how would I use Time Machine to restore it? Is there an option within iPhoto to do this, or would I just do a search in Time Machine for the entire iPhoto folder and just restore it like that?

Software :: Restoring IPhoto From Time Machine Backup

Jan 26, 2010

I did something with my iphoto and when I went to look at my pics they were all gone except the black screen had white outlines of every pic but I couldn't see the pictures. It wanted to build my thumbnail and for whatever reason I didn't choose yes. I think I should have. So, I thought time machine would pull all those photos back. I restored from earlier in the day when it was fine. I had about 4000 photos and after restore I ended up with over 40000 photos. It had put all the clipart and all kinds of photos in there from programs.

Also it duplicated every picture I had at least 3 times. I did go in a delete all the clipart pics. Now I have about 35000 pics. The photos now are not all large size when I click on them. A lot of them are really small when I try to open them. I can't even think about going through all of those pics individually. I thought the Time Machine would restore back to what it was previously with my 4000 or so pics. I'm running iphoto 6 so I can't see the pics when I go into the Finder.
