Dec 10, 2009
What application do you recommend for screen recording? I'm currently using IShowU HD Pro, but was wondering if there are even better softwares out there for screen capture?

Does anyone know of a completely free application that will allow me to take screen recordings and have a video of me talking in the corner simultaneously? I know there are high-end versions of this, but I just want something that will get the job done.

I remember reading some threads pre-SL days where people mentioned a new Screen Recording tool. But I can't find it anywhere.
I'm interested in recording my desktop (keynote, videos, audio, me) for education purposes. I'm demoing Screenflow now (love it to death) but are there any native options that I'm missing? Was this tool added to SL and I just can't find it?

I need some good free screen recording software for Mac OSX. I have looked on Google and some other forums, and all the decent+ ones cost money. If of course you can only get a decent one by buying it, I'll have to buy one, though if you do know of any good free ones can you post em here?

I want to make training videos. I still can zoom in while doing screen recording with Quicktime in my MacBookPro Lion. But when I played back, there's no zoom in in the movies.
I've tried to set the things in Universal Access-seeing-options- and tick 'use scrool keys modifier....' but still didn't work. Restarted the mbp, still didn't work.

I have been trying out all the normal programs for Mac screen recording (iShow U HD, Snapz Pro X, Screenium, Screenflow, even Adobe Captivate!) but not of them run smoothly at ~30 FPS on my 2009 MacBook Pro, they are very choppy and inconsistent. Is this just an issue of lack of hardware, and if I get a beefier machine, it will run better?
The MBP specs are: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4GB RAM
Also, on a slightly different note, when I go to upload some of the more simple, less choppy videos to Youtube, they lose a LOT of quality. Any tips on uploading? I use .FLV or .MOV typically, but they never look very good at all xD once they upload.

I was making a screen recording for a video tutorial and when I finished, it stuck itself on "finishing." I haven't been able to force quit it in the dock or in Activity Monitor. I cannot shut my computer off or restart it. I have a 21.5' iMac running Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3. My processor is 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I have 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. Here is a screenshot.

My son wants to record his Call of Duty battles. I tried using Quicktime screen recording. It sort of worked but I have a blurry bar on the right side and bottom. Am I asking to much of my iMac (2.66 C2D with ATI 2600)? I quit other apps and made sure that I was not paging out to the HDD. How to improve the quality of the recording?

I have the aluminum unibody macbook from I think 2008 with the 2.0 ghz and 2 gigs of ram. I was on iChat with a friend the other day and wanted to record our conversation. So I fired up QuickTime X and started the screen recording function. When we were finished (a good 15 mins later) I pressed stop on the screen recording and everything seemed fine. I went back today to make notes and it only recorded 6 minutes of our conversation!! My computer was really working hard on the fan keeping it cool from all the cpu usage but I thought everything was fine. Could it have overheated and caused QuickTime to stop recording? Or another explanation?

Is there any software out there that's cheap (or free) for Mac that allows you to record a video/audio session of your desktop? I'm talking about software similar to what Adobe Captivate and Camtasia do.

With the introduction of Snow Leopard, QuickTime Player will assume more of a utilitarian role, with screen recording features reportedly joining the software's exiting repertoire of basic audio and video capture capabilities. People familiar with the latest betas of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard have been reporting over the past several weeks the addition of a 'Screen recording' option in the File menu of the new Quick Time X Player due to ship with the OS overhaul later this summer.
Similar in many ways to a feature long offered by Ambrosia Software through its Snapz Pro X utility, the option will allow users to capture in motion video their Mac's screen -- essentially video screenshots. Such a feature will be particularly useful for software developers and educators, as it will simplify the process of creating video tutorials, software demonstrations, and anything else best captured in live motion as opposed to still shots.
When selecting the screen recording option under recent pre-release distributions of Snow Leopard, a recording interface prompts the user to begin a video capture then disappears. A small footprint controller in the upper-right hand side of the Mac OS X menubar can be used to end the video capture. While its unclear if the feature is fully functional in build 10A335 released Thursday, it wasn't in earlier builds, often creating an empty .mov file, those familiar with the software say. An artist's mockup of the minimal QuickTime X Player window interface with the "trim" tools overlay.
QuickTime X -- along with the minimal-interfaced QuickTime X Player (renditions) -- leverages media technology pioneered by Apple for the iPhone OS. When it makes its debut on the Mac with Snow Leopard, it'll offer optimize support for modern audio and video formats resulting in extremely efficient media playback, the company has said. I'm planning on adding how to videos to my site (flash) so that its easier for my customer to understand how to use a page. Ie instead of trying to explain common things in a FAQ I would have a video actually showing them. Ideally I'll be able to record my actions on screen and my voice as I describe what I'm doing. I'm willing to pay for the app, but just not that much ie less than $100. Now I don't need an all in one, for instance if there is a free app to do screen recording and another free app that can record my voice and another to merge them together I'm fine with that. I understand that free is free and I have to deal with some of the headaches. Any advice as to what software I would need. A quick google for mac screen recording brings a bunch of results.

I use the F9 key to show all my open apps and one of the apps I have open is off the screen! and I can't find a way to drag it back. I used to have the laptop connected to second monitor creating duals which might explain it but once you take off the second monitor shouldn't all the apps show on the main screen??
If this has happened to anyone let me know!! I'm trying to find a way to fix it.

I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this right. I work on an external monitor connected to my macbook, set to 1920 resolution. I was using Itunes stretched out to fill the whole monitor at that resolution. Upon switching to the macbook, the itunes window is now too large when I switch to the macbook display. I can't even see the bottom right handle that you normally drag to resize the window. Clicking on the + button doesn't help, as it only shrinks Itunes to the mini player. How can I get itunes back to a smaller window size?

This morning I woke up to finding my MBP shut off... I must've pulled the powercord in my sleep. No problem there, I needed to calibrate my battery anyway. What I want to know is what would cause transmission to use most of my processing power, just on start up? this screen shot below was taken while waiting for the application to start. Transmission is up and running now, but why would it take 15-20 mins to do so?

Does anyone know of a simple full screen digital clock app? I just want a red or a green digital clock with hh:mm:ss on a black background to have running on the the TV on NYE during our party so that we don't miss the countdown. Any ideas? Googling turns up a heap of iPhone apps and some defunt OS X apps but nothing that'd work.

I was about to order an iMac when I noticed that the font size of screen menus and application menus barely visible. When asked they said it cannot be changed at the Apple store that is ridiculous. Even in Windows XP or I have done that 10+ years ago or more, in windows environment.
