OS X :: Recommend Fully Functional / Compatible Printer
Mar 23, 2009
I'm about to throw my HP Colorsmart C6180 out the window. The problems are mostly with the HP software, and my inability to get it to work with OSX 10.5.6 on my Mac Pro. Does anyone want to suggest a replacement that has all in one capabilities and actually is compatible with my computer?

I have a new MacBook Pro (100% up to date) and when i click links for PDFs, Safari opens up a new tab and the whole tab is a darker grey color and the PDF never displays. I have followed many suggestions of deleting this AdobePDFViewer file but unfortunately I do not possess it. So I downloaded Adobe Reader and installed it. I set it to not be the default and to not open PDFs from Internet. I deleted Adobe Reader and then I found the AdobePDFViewer file and I also deleted that. But I still can not view PDFs in Safari.

I am very computer savvy and am the neighborhood/work "go-to" guy for PC/Mac/iPhone/anything type stuff. I have been all Mac for about a year now so I am still learning. I currently have the lousy WRT160N Linksys router. I am very confused about Extreme/Express base station. All the mess about music and portability is confusing to me. Does it serve as a fully functional router?

Apple is slowly dropping PowerPC compatibility with its latest software releases as evidenced by a major new feature of iLife '09 that will function only on Intel-based Macs.
Ars Technica points out that GarageBand's Learn to Play, a new section within the music-making software that serves as a digital instructor for a user learning a new instrument, is not officially supported for Macs still running on PowerPC processors.
System requirements found on the Apple Store website say, in fine print, "GarageBand Learn to Play requires an Intel-based Mac with a dual-core processor or better."
When iLife '09 was first announced at last month's Macworld, the system requirements included "a Power PC G5 or 867 MHz or faster PowerPC G4" without mentioning any incompatible individual features.
Learn to Play also offers Artist Lessons from a Lesson Store built into GarageBand where artists teach fans how to play their hit songs on certain instruments for $4.99 each lesson.
Chief executive Steve Jobs confirmed the switch from PowerPC to Intel in June 2005, targeting the end of 2007 for the transition to be completed.
Mac OS X Leopard excluded slower PowerPC-based Macs with a cutoff set at 800 MHz G4 or faster.
Official documentation from Apple gives clues that PowerPC Macs very well may be left out completely when Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is released sometime during the first half of this year. Developer copies distributed at WWDC last year included a requirements PDF that listed "an Intel processor" as the minimum necessary to run the software.
Adding further weight to that possibility, people familiar with the ongoing development of Leopard have previously told AppleInsider that Snow Leopard would in all likelihood exclude support for PowerPC processors.[ View this article at [URL] ]

I have a lexmark all in one printer X6170, but it is not compatible with OSX and does not offer nay drivers for Mac. I am looking for a new printer which is compatible with both Mac and PC and which does not have a high cost for Ink Cartridges.
The ink cartridges prices are ridiculous and I don't want to pay $50 for a printer and $45 for ink refills.
WHat are some of you guys doing to get a decent printer while keeping the cost down for Ink cartridges.

I'm looking for advice on buying a decent mid-range printer for my Mac. Ideally I'd like it to be wireless. I live in the UK & am looking to spend up to ?150. It would predominantly be used for printing documents. priorities are:
-Wifi / wireless compatibility
-efficiency of cartridges / price of refills
-printing, possibly some photocopying, but not essential
-occasional use for printing photos (again not huge priority)

I'm new to MAC and have a problem connecting my network printer to my MacMini:
Hardware:
1) Intel Mac Mini
2) Printer: HP laserjet pro 100 color mfp m175nw, WLAN switched off, connected via Ethernet to the same network as 1) and 3)
3) Windows PC
Problem:
I can't discover the printer from my MAC Mini. However, I can connect indirectly via the Windows PC which is sharing the printer resource in the network.
Question:
Is there a way to directly connect to the printer via Ethernet, so that I can print with my Windows PC switched off?
P.S: I can print with my iPAD connected via an AirPort extreme to the same Ethernet network.
Info:
Mac mini

I can get this printer at a really good deal but it seems it isn't officially Mac compatible. Has anyone been able to make it work with another driver? In particular, I'm planning on connecting it to a Windows XP Dell PC and then be able to print it on the network.

I'm planning on buying a new Macbook Pro and want to buy a printer to go with it. I know it sounds crazy but I've never had a printer before. I also know you can get a printer "free" basically with the purchase, but I can easily sell that one on craigslist or ebay to get the one that will be best for me. Here's what I need: my computer desk is very small and I need a physically small printer. I don't want a big old lunk of junk!
I'd rather spend as little as possible, but I'm willing to pay a little more (up to like $150 I guess) for a better one.I don't know much about tech stuff, so it needs to be one that's easy to hook up with my Macbook Pro and maybe hopefully even work wirelessly. I prefer it to print colour as well and photos, scan and make copies if possible (not sure if that stuff always comes now). Basically all the normal extras I guess.

We have a couple of systems running 10.6.4. While the Cut function (Cmd+X) works in the applications, it's nonfunctional (grayed out) while in Finder. I'd really like to use Cut/Paste rather than dragging when moving files, as there's less chance for accidentally dropping them where they don't belong. Anyway, I can't seem to find how to make Cut functional.

After packing away my little brothers sawtooth 400Mhz with 384mb RAM and an 8Mb ATI AGP graphics card and then unpacking it I've been having a problem. When starting the computer up the screen shows nothing at all I have tested to see if the screen is broken and it seems to be functional. I think the card itself might be broken? BTW, I'm using the VGA slot and not the DVI slot on the back. I have also removed and cleaned the card just incase that might've been the problem.
