I have snow leopard and sometimes I hear an audio that says "it's xx hours" (i.e. it's 24 hours) singing (it' s very boring). I don't understand which applications launches this audio and why (of course it is not itunes).

Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.
If you have it, please describe your situation as it occurs so we can perhaps isolate it:
I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...
after upgrade to lion, 2010 battery life dropped from 8-9 hours to 3-4 hours?

I want to hook my Macbook Pro up to a Sony Bravia (not sure of the exact model). I went to the Apple Store, and was given these two items to hook it up. Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support. Belkin High Speed HDMI Cable - 6 feet
We successfully hooked it up last night, and the video worked. I was told in the store that this setup would not transfer audio, so I already knew there would not be sound coming from the TV, rather from the Macbook instead. My Q is: What's the easiest way to get audio to come from the TV? I'd rather not buy external speakers to plug in, if I can help it.
When I use some powerpoint presentation containing audio-visual info keynote always seems to prematurely end the audio part. Have tinkered with it a little, but can't seem to sort it out

I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

I am trying to play a .avi video on my MAC that was originally in .rar compressed format. I opened it in VLC, and the audio wont play.. so i checked the info and saw that:
video codec: XVID
audio codec: mpga
I have perian downloaded.. it doesnt seem to be doing anyting. I dont know if i've missed something in my extracting process of the .rar file.
I have attached my Mac mini to my Sony TV (to use as a moniter) - there hasn't been any trouble with the picture but I cannot get any sound.
I am using a VGA (I know that doesn't send audio over) plugged into the 'PC In' port at the back of my tv, and I am using an audio cable with a normal headphone-type jack on one end (going into the headphone port on the back of my mac mini) and the red/white cable going into the HDMI-in red/white ports on the back of my tv. I can't figure out what is going on - I tried plugging the red/white cables into all the input ports on the back of my tv, just in case, but no luck.

I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music.
The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.
Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.
- Volume is at max
- System Prefs>Sound>External Speakers>Volume Max>Not Muted
- No red light coming from the headphone jack
- Tried inserting and removing headphones, no sound in speakers or headphones
- Restarted computer while holding down ⌘ + OPT + P + R , no sound made
- A very very faint feedback, like when you plug an electric guitar in to an amp, can be heard when the first sound (the mac start up chime) is supposed to play on restart
- USB headphones work
With the new Mac Mini models, you can have audio out via HDMI or the line out. I am thinking to hook the mini up to an LCD TV/monitor via HDMI (sound on the monitor) and also to my other TV/sound system via the mini DP and audio out.
I assume when the mini turns on it'll activate both displays (if they are turned on), and from what I understand you can have two displays running. I'd only want one at a time so I'd have the other display switched off. But can the mini output audio to either both, or whichever system I am using? I've read a lot of posts but can't find a definite answer. I only want audio (and video for that matter, but can turn off other screen) to one TV at a time, but do I have to go into the OS audio settings each time I want to swap between the two?
I'm also thinking of using Plex and keeping it open at all times, just sleeping the mini when not in use. Can the mini only output to one source, requiring manual switching to the other (i.e. going from HDMI to audio out)?
The volume controls aren't working well. I'm using a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile external sound device. There seems to be a headphone level control on the left which sort of works (its continuous so you never know where you are in its range) and a "Level Controller" on the right which doesn't do anything to the sound yet it controls the sound bar in Sys Prefs/Sound. I downloaded the 10.4.11 driver from M-Audio.

every couple hours or so, my whole computer just stops responding.First symptoms are: my internet stops working(still responding) then, as i try to force quit, program dose not respond, nor does it close. All programs not responding. I even try to reboot finder, no luck. I try to restart or shut down computer, dosent work. This is all accompanied by the SBBOD. only way to fix this is to manually restart, holding the power button.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook. It's 4 or 5 years old. I downloaded an older version of Handbrake so I could transfer some of my dvds to my Ipod Touch. The newest version didn't work. The first step didn't take too long, but the second step (I think it was Rip) is another story. When I clicked the Rip button, it said that it would take more than 25 hours to Rip. I left it running for 5 hours and it was not even one quarter done. Am I doing something wrong? The dvd is only an hour long.

I'm trying to dowload a lion upgrade and the lion icon drops down to the icon bar, and the download begins, but after 18 hours it is only 25% of the way through. I pause and resume every few hours in case the process is stuck, but nothing speeds this up. My wifi connection has been fast enough to download big installs like this before in a few hours, so I can't figure out what I need to be doing differently.

I bought the new macbook pro 3 days ago--not the one with the retina display; I dont need that--and was hoping to get close to 7 hours of battery life. After 3 days of use, my battery now has an average life of less than 4 hours.
Should I contact Apple about it? I know that the add says battery time may vary, but by 3 hours?

i recently noticed that my MacBoo Pro was with low performance after some hours of use.I try to monitor what might be causing it. What i note was:After restart (or fresh start), my computer was ok;I use applications like adobe Lightroom and VMWare Fusion;Then I star feeling like Safari was too slow to open pages - I thought it was the internet link first, but even local webpages are slow. I notice that when a click to close a tab, it take almost 2 sec to do it. The same when click to open any link on that page.I start the activity monitor, but my proc usage are low. Then, I notice the (weird) memory usage: Take a look at "memory used". I closed all applications before take this screenshot. i've trying to identify what is consuming this memory, but.. no success.

I have audio that is being sent to my MBP through an audio in line that I would like to monitor for audio quality. The only way I know how to listen in real time to the audio is by way of Audio Recorder, but it seems a little unnecessary to have a recording application open simply to listen to my media that is being sent in. Is there a feature already part of OS X that allows me to turn this on? I looked in system prefs, but couldn't find anything to enable this. I will resort to audio recorder if I have to, but would be very happy if this was already a feature.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new iMac (mid-2008 20" model) with a 2.4ghz Intel processor. I am a web designer and use this machine every day for my work. Several months after installing Adobe Creative Suite 3, I noticed that Photoshop was causing the cursor to jump and/or become jerky, as if the video card or processor were not keeping up with what's going on. This tends to happen after the computer's been in use for several hours or days after a restart. I have been following this in Leopard's Activity Monitor, and I noticed that Photoshop (being memory- and processor- hungry) taxes the processor more heavily than many other programs, which I expected. The strange thing, though, is that over time the Activity Monitor shows the "System" as taking up more and more processor capacity. I.E. when I first start up, the system is using 0-20% of the processor, the rest being available for the user; but after awhile, the system is requiring 50-90% of processor capacity, the result being that as soon as I switch into Photoshop from another program, the system is immediately overtaxed and starts moving very slowly (especially the cursor, as I said).
Now, here's the really strange part. As I said, this began happening a few months after I first installed Adobe CS3. I re-installed the software at Adobe's recommendation, and it was fine for another few months, but it began happening a few days ago, which is exactly the same time I shared a jump drive with a friend's worm-infected Windows XP machine. I know Macs don't get Windows worms, but is it possible that this thing has lodged itself on my system somehow and is causing it to run generally more slowly?
How long are you guys getting out of your battery? I was mostly just using the Internet and only got 4 hours. Is that common?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a 4 month old Macbook Aluminum 2.4 ghz. I was getting great battery life for the first couple of months. But I'm now getting 3:10 with screen half light, and wifi on, bt off, doing a bit of downloading, etc. I've recalibrated the battery a number of times. According to activity monitor my cpu is hovering under 10% when I'm doing my battery test. This is at least 2 hours less than I was originally getting. Coconut Battery tells me that the original capacity was 4100, but its currently at 4052. Battery load-cycles are at 97 and it says the Mac is 5 months old. Should I take it in to the Apple store under AppleCare?
