May 27, 2010It appears that the function keys to control iTunes/Quicktime (FF, Play/Pause, and RW) are not working. At one point they did but now it doesn't. All the other function keys are functioning just fine and dandy. I have the "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" unchecked in the preferences. I looked around and there doesn't seem to be any setting that would explain the sudden malfunctioning of the keys. Is there something I may have missed?

Sep 12, 2009Is there a way to kill the white border that Snow Leopard puts around new image icons? They show up on the Desktop and in Finder windows. Also, now all new raw icons show as generic icons in the dock pop ups. And don't get me started on dumping prefs in Image Capture to set it to open images after download.

Dec 27, 2009Some of you may have noticed, but when you save an image with PS, there is no white border around the icon, unlike the default OSX. So I was playing around in Photoshop's preferences, and I figured out how change it to match with other images. To do this, go to Photoshop, then go to Photoshop's preferences>File Handling, and Check off "Never Save" in "Image Preview".

Dec 7, 2014I am trying to print an 11.98x17.97 image on a 13x19 sheet. I specify .51" borders top and bottom, and .52" right and left.Â
Instead, I am getting a 7.5x10.75" printed image with L 1 1/8" + R 7 1/8" borders and T 1/8" + B 5 3/8" borders. In short, a smaller image, shoved up and left on the sheet. See screen shot below.Â
Same happened when I tried to print a 4x6 image on an 8.5x11 sheet, until I was told by Kirby to enter the sheet size as a standard 'letter size' sheet instead of entering a custom 8.5x11" size. Is this the same? If so, what's the 'standard' size for 13"x19"?Â

Sep 11, 2009I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on my MBP.
I cant stream quicktime videos in safari. Every time I go to a video for example on apple.com and try to watch an iPod or Mac advert it will just tells me quicktime is required, free download. I've tried downloading quicktime 7 again but then it says that it cannot be installed because quicktime X is already installed, go to software update to install older version. Software update has no updates for me. I'm stuck, has anyone else had this problem?
I do have Quicktime X installed but it still wont let me view the videos.
I did a quick search but couldn't find any info on this.

Before upgrading my Mac mini to 10.6, I had installed Quicktime Pro 7. I had set up Quicktime 7 Pro to be the default app to open my .m4v handbrake video files rather than iTunes.
I just was testing some movies that I encoded last night before the 10.6 upgrade, which I did this morning.
Double clicking the .m4v file opened it in Quicktime 7 not Quicktime X. I looked in the applications folder to see if Quicktime 7 was still there but it wasn't. A quick Spotlight search and I found that Quicktime 7 (at least the Pro version) was moved to the utilities folder.
Conclusion: If you do a 10.6 upgrade install, and you have Quicktime 7 Pro, you don't have to install it from the 10.6 disc, it's just been moved to your utilities folder.
Mac Pro :: Way To Control PSU Fan
May 26, 2012I have an upgraded (2 x X5355 8 core) Mac Pro 1.1 running 10.7.4. I routinely use SMCFanControl (the latest version) to ramp up the fans when I am running long, CPU-intensive jobs. However, SMCFanControl only changes three of the four fans - the PSU fan remains stuck on 600rpm, regardless of the settings. My PSU is getting pretty hot - 70+C, so I am looking for a way of cranking it up.

Nov 1, 2010I noticed my disk space had been dropping slowly for the past few days, and I hadn't restarted for 11 days, so I restarted and 8GB were freed up. I assume this must be from log files inflating much larger than they should, but I'm not sure why this would be or how to fix it.
