View 23 Replies View RelatedWhile many of the changes present in betas of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard have been discussed at length by Apple followers, one tester has taken to the web with observations on some of the more subtle refinements spread through the most recent build of the next-gen operating system. AppleInsider reader inewton1974 pointed us to an annotated Flickr album of nearly four dozen Snow Leopard screenshots he published a bit earlier in the week. He begins by noting that the software's setup assistant will now warn users if they don't supply a password hint and claims that QuickLook capabilities have been built into universal Open and Save dialog windows.
Another interesting discovery is Apple's use of transition effects within the new Cocoa-based Finder. In particular, the Clean Up command for tidying Finder windows reportedly "slides" icons into place instead of shifting them abruptly. This is described as a "a neat visual effect," and several others similar to it are likely to follow. The Finder also present an slider control for resizing icons in the lower right-hand corner of windows displayed in icon mode, as can be seen in the first screenshot below. Additionally, it's noted that a QuickTime preference pane is absent from Snow Leopard, as are any preferences from within the QuickTime X Player itself, leading to renewed speculation that Apple may do away with its premium QuickTime Pro offering entirely. A series of screenshots with inewton1974's observations follows:.......................
Apple redefined the Gigabyte from 1073741824 to 1000000000. Finally!!! I'm into computer science since over two decades and that never made sense.

2) Will Quicktime pro carry over when I install Snow Leopard? And Will it use all 8 cores?
3) Will Final Cut Pro 6 have an issue with the new quicktime?
4) Will visual hub, mpegstreamclip, or Handbreak be incompatible with snow leopard?
5) Will my final cut pro projects that I created in leopard, still work when I install snow leopard?

I use my mac pro to make a living, should I risk installing Snow Leopard if Leopard works fine? Or do you think I should wait?
I am planning on buying the upgrade of Snow Leopard from the Apple store on Saturday. Do you think they will sell out fast, or will Apple prepare for the worst and stock on alot?

2. I currently own a 2009 Macbook pro 17 which is great but im going from a home based job to one which means a lot travelling - car, plane, public transport. Thus im selling this to get a more compact and travel friendly mac. I mostly use it for internet, mailing, file viewing, some online games, itunes and a few programs like Power Point and Photo shop. I cant decide whether to get a new air or a new 13 inch screen pro. A cd/dvd drive isnt important at all really. Any ideas or advice.
How does the unibody Macbook release heat? I would like to have it sit on my desk 75% of the time and hooked up to a monitor. Would heating be a issue?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a desktop item and try to drag it, the item doesn't move - a shadow of the icon sticks to the pointer and I have difficulty releasing the shadow icon. I have verified and repaired the hard drive. I have deleted finder preference files, but to no avail. I can stop this issue by putting the Mac to sleep and waking it, but I shouldn't have to do this.

Seems a little bit better. Well try it yourself. But remember to uninstall the current flash version first before installing the version 10. Links:

I did not put these on here and on further review I found these were added about a month ago. I need to get the questions off in order to make a purchase for the first time on my new mac. Anybody got a solution?

View 24 Replies View RelatedAt one time I think I was able to type in a song name and/or writer/singer and it would come up and allow me to preview it for 60 seconds. I can't figure out how to do that now (I think this may have changed once our MAC was 'updated' by a local MAC professional). I'd like to be able to type in 'After the Gold Rush' by Neil Young, preview it to make sure it's the sone I want, and then Buy it and have it downoaded onto my MAC.Â

Is it possible to restore a previous point release? If yes, how easy will it be and how to do the restore? My MBP is on 10.6.4 now, and I'd like to try 10.6.5 in the next few days. If it doesn't work well with some of my apps, I'd like to restore.
I'm running a Unibody MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I'm having issues with dragging - specifically, releasing from drag. I can start dragging fine, but once I start the mouse pointer won't let go, even if I release the button, and nothing will cause the pointer to drop the item being dragged save killing the application I was dragging from. It's especially infuriating when dragging items around on the Dock, because when you're dragging a Dock icon you can't select items with the mouse, and earlier today I had to use a series of keyboard shortcuts to get to the terminal to kill it.) A restart will usually fix this, but it inevitably pops up again. It happens with both my Mac's trackpad and my Magic Mouse, so it might not be a hardware issue but I'm not sure. I previously used JiTouch for additional gestures, but I don't think it's the cause as the issue crops up even when JiTouch is completely disabled + uninstalled.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing some kind of trouble with drag & drop in Finder and desktop.Whenever I click+drag a file, I can't release this file. I click, right click, space bar, whatever, and the file stills on drag for some time and then it releases itself.
When I reboot everything is fine, until after some time it starts with the problem again.Just now what I noticed was: when the file is locked on drag, if I do ESC+click it releases but I can't move files or anything else.
I downloaded the trial of iWork '09 and I really like it. It complements Office 2008 really well, better in some ways. Anyway, I want to purchase it from the Apple Store. I can either purchase a serial number that is emailed to me to enter into the trial version or a boxed version that is shipped to me. Which way should I go? I guess if I get the boxed, I have to install the trial and reinstall from the DVD or something? Is getting the serial number just as good?
